Divine Intervention
Maybe if she had reacted better he bhe breakup it wouldn’t have happened. Maybe if she didn’t run away she wouldn’t be lying in a hospital bed wondering who the hell she was. Maybe…what if…possibly.

She was in a hurry, She was thinking about why she left Sunnydale. Thinking about HIM again. The asshole. She caught him with a hooker, she had followed him on the advice of her friends, and found him with that Whore on top of him, riding him with her hands grasped tightly around his throat.
He was almost fucking purple. “Oh…fuck yeah Harmony…gonna come inside that pussy…”
“Yeah…yeah Rie…fuck me…” She watched horrified as her boyfriend flipped the girl over and thrust into her.
“Fuck…you make me come so fucking hard…No one like you baby…” He panted softly.
“You fucking PRICK!” She screamed launching herself at the still entwined couple.
“Elisabeth? What the hell are you doing here?”
“I could ask you the same thing…” She punched him in the face.
“OWW You bitch!” Riley screamed backhanding her across the face.
She left. She left the room and went home and cried. It took two weeks of him calling to send her over the edge. He tried to tell her that with Harmony it was just sex, he wanted to marry her, she was the kind of girl he could take home to Mom and Dad.
“Too bad Riley. You should have thought about that before you fucked Harmony.” Was all she said every time he called.
Finally she had enough. She packed her bags and made her way to London. She had to get away, and an old friend of her father’s had offered to let her house sit for him while he was away for two months.
With an opportunity like that how could she pass it up?
Elisabeth had been there for a week, taking in the sights and trying to get over his betrayal. Then she got an excited call from her mother informing her she had gotten her a ticket to the theater. She was going to see Romeo & Juliet.
She had to make it to the theater in ten minutes and she didn’t want to be late. She walked across the street, carefully looking both ways. She was halfway across when his car came out of nowhere, headed straight for her.
She was frozen, her hazel eyes locked with his shocked brown ones just seconds before she felt the impact.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He was freaking out. She kicked him out. He was fighting with his girlfriend and she just told him to leave. In the five years they had lived together she had never thrown him out. No matter how bad the fights were they always made up. Always. ~ What am I going to do without you Darla? ~
She was the only thing on his mind, and as his eyes locked with the tiny blonde girl’s standing in front of his car he realized he shouldn’t have been driving.
He hadn’t seen her tiny from running across the street in a hurry, head turning from side to side checking for cars, he had come out of nowhere, and it seemed so did she, suddenly she was smashing up against his windshield. He slammed on the brakes and watched horrified as she slumped to the pavement in front of his car. He grabbed his cell phone and got out of the car quickly running towards her fallen form.
“I need an ambulance…please I just hit someone…” He screamed into the phone. He heard the sirens as he reached her side.
“Please be ok…please…” He knelt beside her and reached out to her, her arm was bent at an awkward angle. He brushed his finger gently over her temple.
She opened her eyes and looked at him. “I…”
“Shhh. Don’t try to talk…I’ve called an ambulance…It’s on the way…you’re going to be ok…”
“No…no…I…” She tried to sit up and fell into unconsciousness.
He dialed again. “Hello?” A sleepy British voice answered.
“William…thank god. I need your help…I god I’m such an idiot…Darla and I had a fight…she kicked me out and I wasn’t paying attention…I hit someone…Will you meet me at the hospital?”
“I’ll meet you.” He rubbed his hand wearily over his eyes and groaned. ~ Shit. Just what I need. ~ He hung up the phone and quickly threw on some clothes. He made it to the hospital before the ambulance.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“No. You have to take her to mercy general…” Liam said softly.
“But sir…London General is much closer and we don’t know if she has any insurance…”
“It doesn’t matter…my best friend…He’s a doctor there…”
The ambulance attendant nodded red relayed the news to the driver. He watched the tow truck pull away with his car and hopped into the back of the ambulance. With her. The girl he may have killed. The girl he defiantly hit with his car.
He looked at her intently, willing her to wake up. ~ Please…please be ok… ~ He sat beside her it seamed for hours before the ambulance stopped at the hospital.
The door opened and his best friend greeted him. “Liam? You ok?”
“Not worried about me…I hit her…She needs to be ok…”
“She will be mate. I’ll fix her up right and proper. You go on into recovery room C and lay down…I’ll come and get you when I’m finished ok?”
Liam nodded and followed the instructions he was given.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“She’s lost a lot of blood…” William murmured, finishing the final stitch.
The nurse looked up at him. “Do you want me to stay with her?”
“I don’t think that is necessary, she will be unconscious for a while yet.”
“Do we know who she is?”
“No. I’m going to see if anyone found out anything about her while I was fixing her up.”
The nurse nodded and smiled.
“I’ll be back to look in on her in a while. Anything changes you page me ok?”
“No Problem.”
“My best friend, he’s the one who hit her, he was pretty shaken up…I’m going to go check on him.”
He glanced one more time at the girl on the bed, One of her arms was fractured, she had a gash on the back of her head that required stitches, she had a tube down her throat to help her breathe. ~ Could be complications, swelling of her brain… ~
“I don’t know how long she’ll be out, but the sooner she wakes the better it will be, any changes you page me…got it?”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“….lost a lot of blood…”
“…unconscious for a while…”
“…look in on her in a while…”
“…Check on him…”
All she was hearing were snippets of conversation. She felt heavy, groggy. She wanted to open her eyes but couldn’t. They felt so heavy, just like the rest of her. There was something logged in her throat, making it difficult to breathe, and she felt like she had been tied down. Her arms and legs were heavy.
“…Don’t know how long she’ll be out…”
She wanted to scream, shout, tell them she was ok, tell them she was alive. But she couldn’t. She couldn’t make her voice work. She couldn’t make anything work.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Is she ok? Please tell me she’s ok Will…I can’t…”
“She’ll live…” He sighed heavily and sat on the bed next to his friend. “Does Darla know you’re here?”
“No. She kicked me out and I didn’t call her…”
“I’ll go and call her for you. She’ll have to pick you up…”
There was a knock on the door interrupting further conversation.
William went to the door and opened it slightly. When he saw who was on the other side he stepped out and shut the door softly behind him. “What can I do for you?”
“Hey Will. Just wanted to let you know that we are not pressing charges…seems the girl was running across the middle of the road.”
William nodded. “It really was an accident…”
“I know, and still no word on who she is…”
“Hopefully she’ll be awake soon enough and be able to tell us herself.” Spike glanced at the officer. “Thanks for coming to tell me yourself Alexander.”
“No problem, in the mean time, we find anything out we will let you know.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
She opened her eyes slightly and winced at the brightness. It hurt her eyes. She felt tears in her stinging eyes and felt them roll down her cheeks.
She choked a little on the tube in her throat. ~ What the hell… ~ She heard a far off beeping sound and suddenly she heard someone entering her room. She felt gentle hands on her arm checking her IV. It needed to be changed, that’s where the beeping noise was coming from. She tried again to open her eyes and caught sight of a nurse. ‘Drucilla’ The nametag read.
She choked again on the tube and Dru’s eyes were drawn to her face. “You’re awake Pixie. Let me go and get Dr. William, he’ll take the tube out of your throat ok?” She patted her arm reassuringly and finished adjusting her IV drip.
It seemed like hours she sat there waiting. It was kind of a good thing though, it gave her eyes a chance to adjust to the brightness.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“They’re not going to press charges. Darla’s on her way to pick you up, She’s sorrte. te. She wants to work things out...She loves you, you know.”
“Will…thank you…I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
“Well you’re never going to have to find out now are you mate? We’ve been best friends since we were in diapers, nothing’s going to change that.”
“I know…it’s just that I keep screwing up and…I’m sorry…”
“Nothing to be sorry for mate…” He stopped suddenly as his pager went off. Quickly pulling it from his pocket he glanced at the number. “That’s her.”
~~~~~~~~~~
~~
William knocked gently before entering her room. Didn’t want to startle her. He had stopped by the nurse’s station; Dru told him she was awake.
William walked up to her bedside. “Hello. I’m Doctor William, I want to take out your breathing tube ok?” It’s not going to be pleasant, but it needs to be done.” He said matter of factly. He tried not to let her eyes on him affect him. He had never seen eyes like hers before. So haunting, so sensual.
She looked up into his blue eyes and was instantly reassured, She felt calmed by his presence by her bedside.
“You may feel like you need to wretch, here’s a bowl you can use. I know this isn’t terribly pleasant.” He placed a bowl on the bed beside her.
She nodded and gagged again. She rolled her eyes and closed them. It felt gross. She felt it coming and threw up. She had nothing in her stomach and bile flew out of her mouth. She gagged again.
He put his arm around her back supporting her. Dru came into the room to check how they were doing.
“Get a towel and a glass of water please…”
She did as he asked and brought the items to him, and then quickly left the room. She knew the next hour or two would be really difficult for the girl, and the fewer people that witnessed it the better she would feel.
He wiped her mouth gently and held the glass so she could have a sip. She gulped hungrily at the water, trying to soothe her parched throat.
“No, no. Little sips Miss. Don’t want you tossing again…” He felt so helpless. A feeling he had never felt before. He wanted to take this tiny girl in his arms and tell herrythrything would be ok.
She nodded and looked up into his eyes. “What happened?” She asked. It came out as barley a whisper. Her sore throat making her voice hoarse.
“You don’t remember?”
She shook her head. “I can’t…”
“I need to ask you some questions…we don’t know who you are…” He saw her eyes widen in shock as the information registered.
“How can you not know who I am?” He could hear the panic creeping into her voice.
“What’s your name Luv?” He cringed. ~ Stop, Don’t know the girl, can’t be calling her Luv. ~
“It’s…oh god…why can’t I remember?” Tears were falling silently down her cheeks.
William took it in stride, his professionalism taking over. “What year is it?”
“Don’t you care that I can’t remember my name? How can you stand there and just ask me questions?” She was screaming.
“Look Miss…you may have a slight case of amnesia…I know that it is not complete amnesia because you still remember how to talk, how to do things, but I need to know how far it goes…” he said softly, perfectly calm.
“I…It’s…I don’t know what year it is…”
“Where are you from?” He picked her uninjured hand up and held it loosely in his offering her strength.
“Don’t know.” He could see her lip quivering.
“What are your parents names?”
“No idea…” The trembling in her lip increased and twin tear tracks appeared on her face.
“Where were you going? You were across the street from the Theater…is that where you were headed?”
“The Theater? Wait…yes…Romeo and Juliet. I had a ticket…where is my purse?”
“It didn’t come here with you. You must have dropped it when you were hit.”
