Chapter 9
Chapter 9
A loud knock on the door woke Buffy from her sleep. She brushed the hair from her face with a shaky hand, and quickly headed to the door
"Who is it?" she asked standing behind the closed door.
"It's Spike,"
"Xander's not here," Buffy bit her lip and hoped he would leave.
"I know that pet, I came to see you." Spike said softly.
She could imagine him standing there, staring at door with those silly puppy eyes of his. She had seen him using that look for like a million times, when he wanted something…or someone… that look almost made it impossible to refuse.
"It's the middle of the night Spike. Can we just do it some other time?" She tried
"C'mon Summers," Spike answered less patiently
"Damn," Buffy mumbled and opened the door
Spike studied her appearance for a moment, before speaking.
"I just wanted to ask you a question," he said gazing at her face. She’d just woke up from sleeping and she looked like a million bucks
"What is it?" Buffy crossed her arms and glared at him. He looks tired and kinda strange, what's going through that mind of yours now Spike?
Spike paused, he felt like he was about to do the hardest thing he ever done in his life.
"There's a new place…I wanted to check out…. and I thought that maybe… you would want to come with me tomorrow night" Spike looked up at her hopeful
"Are you- are you asking me on a date?' Buffy blinked, can't believe what she was hearing
"I figured since we seem to do everything backwards, it would be a good idea to get it out of the way," Spike smiled slightly, looking a little embarrassed
"A date?"
"Are you gonna repeat it all night, or are you answer the bloody question?" Spike’s tone got harsh again. God this is impossible he thought.
Buffy tilted her head to the side and looked at him suspiciously
"Did you break up with Harmony?" she asked coldly
Spike swallowed hard, remembering the events, which had happened earlier that evening.
"Do they know?" Tara sipped her drink as she gazed at Willow, sitting in front of her.
"No. not really," Willow mumbled and smiled, pleased she could finally relax on a Friday night, instead of working.
"Are you ashamed or-"
"No, no…it's not like that at all…it's just….look at Xander," she pointed at her friend/boss near the counter "He’s so self involved that you can French kiss me right here and now and he wouldn't even notice,"
"I might try that," Tara said and watched Willow blushing.
"And what about his girlfriend…what's her name?" Tara gazed at the blonde who was talking to Xander
"Anya…" Willow said, "We aren't that close, but knowing her she'd probably offer a foursome,"
Tara laughed at that "I'm not into that," she added
"Good to know," Willow smiled at her
"A-and Buffy?"
Willow’s eyes widened, thinking of her friend "You won't believe this," she leaned on the table so she could talked to her confidently
"She on a date…" she emphasized each word "With Spike,"
Tara looked at her for a moment and then giggled
"Well it's about time,"
"I hope it's going well," Willow said worried
"Sweetie…I've known Buffy almost a day and I can already tell you, Spike's got his work cut out for him,"
"Yeah…I know what you mean," Willow sighed and took a sip from her drink.
Spike opened the door to the restaurant and raised a brow, when Buffy just stood at the entrance and stared at him.
"What?" he asked defensively
"You're freaking me out," Buffy sent him a sharp glare before entering.
"Don't get your knickers in a twist!" Spike spat from behind her as they walked together.
"You showed up on time," Buffy scanned the room and continued walking "You compliment my dress, you open doors for me…and you expect me not to be all skittish," Buffy almost tripped when she noticed how beautiful the rest of the place was.
"I'm just trying to act normal," Spike muttered as the host led them to their table
"Well stop it!" Buffy said with a quiet rage and sat down, before he could offer her the chair
"Do you want me to be myself Summers?" Spike leaned on the table trying to keep his voice down.
"Yes!" Buffy answered in the same tone.
Spike smirked at that. God she looked so cute when her eyes narrowed at him like that
"I thought you said I act like a pet pig," he stated and watched Buffy looking through her menu.
"I said you were a pig," Buffy said, not taking her eyes from the menu.
"What's the difference?"
"I was referring to your chauvinistic perceptions, not your table manners,"
Spike snorted and looked at his menu, his eyes narrowing.
A few minutes passed and Buffy let out a sigh, Spike looked up and closed his menu.
"Let's get out of here,"
"W-what?... Why?"
"C'mon summers we both know this place isn't for us,"
"So why did you bring me here?" Buffy frowned.
"They serve veal brains…" Spike leaned to the table "raw" he added and watched Buffy wrinkle her nose.
"Let's go," she grabbed her purse
"That's really classy Spike," Buffy sneered as they walked together through the park.
"I don't know what you're complaining about; I saw the way you jumped from that chair,"
Buffy stopped walking and turned to face him
"Okay what is this?"
"What?"
"And don't say it's a date… dates involved food and drinking, probably sitting in a fancy restaurant engaging awkward conversation,"
"Well this is awkward," Spike muttered under his breath gazing away.
"Is this your idea of a first date Spike?" Buffy snapped and made him look at her
"You keep using that word luv…makes a bloke think you want it to be," Spike smirked.
"Ugh!" Buffy turned on her heel and started walking, when she felt a hard grip on her arm.
"What do you want Spike!?" she quickly turned to face the persistent blond
"A second chance," Spike said quietly, his eyes
fixed on hers.
"Why?" Buffy could help but wonder aloud.
"Why?" Spike repeated her question softly as if he was trying to read her thoughts
"I don't get it Spike; I just don't get what changed. Why do you want to be with me?" Her words came out more firmly
"What is this really about Summers?"
"I-" Buffy opened and closed her mouth not sure what to say.
"Why don't I make it easy on you pet…tell me what you want to hear,"
Buffy sighed and glared at him
"Well?" Spike glanced back at a couple that walked by and stared at the two of them arguing
"You got to understand that this," Buffy pointed her finger between then "Isn't easy for me at all,"
"And why is that?"
"You honestly ask me that after all this time? After everything we've been through?" Buffy frowned.
"We both said some things we didn't mean-, God, Buffy people can change you know?"
"So what, overnight you stop thinking I'm a repulsive little brat?"
"Never thought of you as repulsive," Spike narrowed his eyes at her
"So you always wanted to nail me?" Buffy raised her chin
"Never wanted to "nail" you," Spike snapped, "I wanted to kill you!"
"Not making it better," Buffy sent him a cold stare.
Spike inhaled deeply before gazing at her again "You know what…it should,"
"What?" Buffy said confused
"Buffy..." Spike closed the gap between them. "When I'm with you, it's like the whole sodding world disappears, everything else just fades away, and it doesn't matter how screwed up things are…" Spike paused to gaze at Buffy's eyes "the only thing I can care about is you… I never felt this way about anyone, doesn't it tell you something?" Spike paused and gazed at Buffy who looked like she was deep in thought.
"Not even for Drusilla?" Buffy searched Spike's eyes,
"No," he said without blinking "I never-"
Spike wasn't expecting this, he wasn't expecting to feel Buffy in his arms so soon. He wasn't expecting to feel her warm lips pressed against his, kissing him passionately. He opened his mouth and deepened the kiss, letting Buffy's tongue wrestle with his. He held her shoulders and part of him felt he was holding her for support, he always knew Buffy could bring him to knees. He moaned in to her mouth knowing that he wouldn't have wanted it any other way.
"Willow looks cozy,” Anya turned to Xander, almost yelling through the loud music that was played in the pub.
"Give her a break, it's her night off," Xander sipped his beer and leaned back in his seat.
"I don't like the way you manage this place Xander, people are complaining,"
"People…What people?" Xander raised a brow
"Well me for instance," Anya send him an honest stare
"Anya…honey," Xander wrapped his arm around his girlfriend’s waist "if this is about Willow-"
"Willow?" Anya looked at him surprised
"I know you had your differences…" Xander explained, remembering Anya's jealousy episodes.
"Oh that..no," Anya snorted slapping his thigh. "I'm not worried about that anymore...It's obvious Willow plays for the other team," Anya smiled brightly
"Other team?" Xander asked bewildered
"Yeah, she's gay," Anya simply stated
Xander blinked a few times before replying with a slight resentment "Willow's not gay!"
Anya put both of her hands at the sides of her boyfriends head. She made him look to the other side of the room, where Willow and Tara were sitting next to each other, kissing.
"Oh," was all Xander could say.
"Ow," Buffy's back hit a tree. The grass under her feet tickled her toes through her sandals and she could barely see straight. She knew she shouldn't ruin her new dress by brushing against trees or bounding with nature. But the only thing she could think about was Spike's tongue exploring her mouth, his hard chest pressed against hers, and his growing desire was making her moist between her legs.
"Oh God Spike," she gasped when his mouth attacked her neck
"God Buffy, I need you so bloody much," Spike's hand roamed over her breasts, feeling her nipples harden under his touch.
"Spike…" Buffy panted hard "Wait," she said as he was about to lift the dress up.
"Spike froze and looked at her flushed face "Not here," Buffy said almost as a plea.
Spike looked around like he just realized where he was "of course pet," he straightened up "I'm sorry," he gazed at her hoping that she was not upset with him
Buffy almost regretted the loss of contact, but the sight of people walking through the park brought her back to reality.
"I'll walk you home?" Spike said and took Buffy's hand as she nodded.
They looked at each in awe as they walked hand in hand, surprised by the sincerity of that gesture, wondering about this new building of trust between them.
A loud knock on the door woke Buffy from her sleep. She brushed the hair from her face with a shaky hand, and quickly headed to the door

"Did you break up with Harmony?" she asked coldly
Spike swallowed hard, remembering the events, which had happened earlier that evening.
"Yes," he said between grated teeth
"Then…umm…okay," Buffy gazed at the floor, sounding not so sure of herself
"Alright," Spike took a step back. "I'll call before I'll come to pick you up,"
Not making a move, both glared at each other as they stood near the doorway.
"Goodnight Spike," Buffy smiled awkwardly and closed the door slowly.
"Night," Spike said and turned to leave, letting out a heavy sigh.
Buffy leaned on the closed door and did the same.
"Do they know?" Tara sipped her drink as she gazed at Willow, sitting in front of her.
