Why do you want to know about my sire? I mean, really. There’s not much to tell about him. He’s dead. I see that look in your eyes. I didn’t kill him, hell, I didn’t even know his name until he was gone.

I was an intern at the mayor’s office. I see that look. Well, I can tell you right now, I had no plans of seducing anyone in the government. When I was there, I was there to learn about governance. I mean, that IS the purpose behind the whole intern program. Besides, I couldn’t find a blue dress to fit me. Heh.

Yeah, so I remember that fall and spring. I only met the mayor once, but damn, that guy was like a man possessed. Well, he wasn’t yet, but that was the plan, I learned after my death. He was all sorts of creepy in a too damn wholesome for his own good sort of way.

Anyways, I was playing gopher for some of the executive staff, gopher coffee, gopher copier paper, and was walking down the back hallways. I bumped into this black guy that had been hovering around the mayor for the last few weeks. I’d never spoken with him, never even seen him up close. When I was talking with some of the others, he was always referred to as the new advisor.

I apologized, and he glared at me. I took a step left, into the sunlight pouring through the windows. He flinched away as the light reflected off my name badge. Odd, I remember thinking, that he’d avoid sunlight that strenuously. I didn’t really think too much more of it. I just kept going about my duties.

Later that day, I was getting ready to leave. Not all of us were as mindlessly dedicated to getting the mayor re-elected, and I had a date that night. I had finished all of my tasks, and I put my name badge on the hook on my cubicle wall. Grabbing the keys to my 84 Dodge Dart, I turned around, and there the advisor was. I blinked, surprised. I asked him if there was anything I could do for him before I left.

He sneered at me. No, boy, I remember him saying, just before his face changed. The last thing I remember was a searing pain in my neck, and a warm wetness running down my leg.

Yeah, I’ll admit it. I was so scared when I died that I lost control of myself. There is a dim memory of a hot, thick fluid pouring down my throat, and a chuckled whisper. Another recruit for the mayor.

And I woke up three days later in my coffin. I told you about that already though. What I did after that was run to the mayor’s office. I was going to find that advisor, and figure out what the hell he had done to me. I mean, yeah, I knew I was a vampire then, but what the hell did that mean? Why me? When I arrived, I found a few other vampires milling around. They told me that my sire, Trick, had been killed earlier that night by the Slayer. I didn’t know what that was, really, so I just thanked them and wandered away. I hunted. I ate. And then I retreated to the graveyard, and slept in an open crypt.

That next night, I was a basket case. When I had woken up, I had had spiders on me. I was almost twitchy enough to run into the sun to get clean, but I held onto my last shred of self-control and waited until nightfall. I killed in a hurry; just snagged the first lone mortal I saw, stole the wallet and got a low rent motel room. I stood in the shower almost an hour that night. I was so confused. I almost went back to the mayor’s office, but what would be the point? I was dead, there was no paycheck for me there. I didn’t want to see my parents, so I decided that I would just stay at this sleaze bucket as long as I could.

For two months, I lived in those ugly rooms. During that time, I heard about the death of the mayor, the destruction of Sunnydale High. I perfected my hunting style, and I eventually was able to get myself an apartment. Same place I live now. I hate moving, and the best moving times are during the day. Anyways, I bumped into others of my kind fairly regularly, and we swapped stories over bloody Marys a few times. And sometimes bloody Lisas or bloody Janets, but you get the idea. That’s where I learned most of what I know.

Huh? No, I don’t hunt just women. I will kill anyone, man, woman, child. I will admit, the women are my preferred victims. I guess I still get a thrill of having a woman in my arms. It happened so rarely in life.

No. I’ll not tell you about my life. It was a random string of disappointments, intersected with periods of obsessive-compulsive mania. I’ll just tell you that I wasn’t a very happy kid, and growing up didn’t fix it. I was single for most of my life; I guess I just didn’t have the confidence to talk to women.

Look, I didn’t eat before I came here tonight, so I’m going to leave now. I actually enjoy talking to you, and you’re looking more and more like a meal to me. I’ll be back tomorrow.

Sorry the post was a long time coming and short too. The next chapter will be soon, hopefully with more action. Beodel
