Awk-Chapter Twenty-Four

one month later...

Buffy was walking through her apartment on a Sunday morning. She was trying to get some things done before Dawn arrived. She’d gone back with Willow to finish off the school year. She was coming to spend her summer vacation with Buffy, and she was actually excited. She’d busied herself with training the potentials. She hadn’t seen or heard from Angel since she told him to leave her alone, and she had to keep her mind occupied. Kennedy occasionally brought her some more girls, wanting to be trained. All in all, she had about twenty girls that she was training on a regular basis. What few members of the watcher’s council were left, started up a new council with Giles and Wesley as the two heads. They’d gotten their funding back, and were actually paying Buffy to train the girls. She didn’t really have to slay much anymore, since she was training the girls to do it for her. She was currently cleaning her kitchen up, when the doorbell sounded. She walked through her apartment, and answered the door, only to stop dead in her tracks. Angel was standing on her doorstep, and he was standing in the daylight.

Buffy didn’t know what to say at first, all she could do was stare at him. He grinned at her from ear to ear.

" Aren’t you going to invite me in? Not that I need an invitation anymore." This made Buffy gasp.

" Please tell me this isn’t like last time, Angel." He sighed and smiled gently at her.

" It’s not like last time, Buffy. I’ve been human for almost a month now. The only reason it took so long, was I had to take care of something first." Buffy reached out her hand, and poked Angel on his bicept. He chuckled at her.

" I’m really here, Buffy." Buffy let out a small squeak, and wrapped her arms around Angel’s neck. He enveloped her in his embrace and didn’t want to let go. When they finally did break apart, she moved to let him in the apartment. Once in, he turned and looked at her.

" Buffy, I know you’re still mad at me, and I don’t blame you. I wish I could explain why I did that to you. The only thing I can say, is it was like something was telling me to get you and Faith out of harms’ way." Buffy nodded at him.

" I think I get that now, and I want to say I’m sorry for acting like a brat." He shook his head, and grabbed her again. He quickly broke away from the kiss, to tell her something.

" Okay, before we do something that could make us late, I have to take you to the park. There’s something there you need to see." She looked at him with a confused expression on her face.

" The park? I can’t go to the park, Dawn will be here soon." He smiled.

" I know, but I really need you to come with me right now." She finally agreed, and they left for her surprise.

When they got to their destination, Buffy was amazed at what she saw. She saw a huge Banner that said " Thank you, Buffy. You’ve saved our lives a bunch of times." And underneath that banner, there was a stage. No one was on it, just a stool. Gathered around in a small group were all of her friends. Willow, Oz, Xander, Talia, Andrew, Riley, Giles, Wesley, Fred, Lorne, Gunn, Faith, Cordelia, Dawn, Connor, Kennedy, and all of the potential slayers were there. She looked over at Angel with a look of Awe on her face.

" Do you mind telling me what the hell is going on here?" He smiled and put his arm around her shoulder.

" We’re having a party for you. It’s kind of a ‘thank you’ party. I think the sign explains that much." She laughed and embraced Angel again.

It was about an hour into the party, when Spike walked onto the stage. He picked up the microphone, and spoke.

" Okay, I’m not one for speeches, but I just wanted to say something. Buffy, I wrote this little song for you. I’m not going to say much on it, but thanks from me."

Slowly he started playing his guitar, ans singing softly at first.

"I'm not a perfect person
There's many things I wish I didn't do
But I continue learning
I never meant to do those things to you
And so I have to say before I go
That I just want you to know

I've found a reason for me
To change who I used to be
A reason to start over new
and the reason is you

I'm sorry that I hurt you
It's something I must live with everyday
And all the pain I put you through
I wish that I could take it all away
And be the one who catches all your tears
Thats why I need you to hear
I've found a reason for me
To change who I used to be
A reason to start over new
and the reason is You

I'm not a perfect person
I never meant to do those things to you
And so I have to say before I go
That I just want you to know

I've found a reason for me
To change who I used to be
A reason to start over new
and the reason is you

I've found a reason to show
A side of me you didn't know
A reason for all that I do
And the reason is you"

When he was finished singing, buffy couldn’t help the tears that fell from her face. She walked right up on stage to him, and gave him a big hug.

" Spike, why didn’t you tell me that you were human?" He grinned at her.

" That’s what this whole surprise thing is for." She grinned and gave him a big hug. She couldn’t have more happier than she was at that moment.
