“The Theater? Wait…yes…Romeo and Juliet. I had a ticket…I…I must have had a purse…where is my purse?”
“It didn’t come here with you. You must have dropped it when you were hit.”
“I’m scared.”
“That’s natural.”
“What’s gonna happen now?”
“I’ll check you over, and tomorrow the hospital psychologist will stop by, See if she can get you to remember anything.”
“What if she can’t?”
“Don’t worry Luv, we’ll figure something out.” Spike cringed again. ‘Bloody hell. I have to stop calling her that.’
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There was a soft tapping at her door. She turned towards it waiting to see who would enter this time.
It was Drucilla, with another woman.
“Hello Pixie. I brought Dr. Winters with me. Faith Winters.”
Sighing she smiled tentatively at the young dark haired doctor. “Hi.”
“I’ll leave you two alone. Dr. William will be by shortly to check on you Pixie.”
Elisabeth smiled at the nurse. “Thanks Dru.”
“No problem.” Dru smiled and was out the door.
She glanced over at the doctor who was looking at her curiously.
“I’m really nervous…”
“There is no reason to be nervous. You the the best Doctor on staff, and I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before we find out who you are. Everything is going to be fine.”
“How can you be so sure? I mean I don’t…I don’t know who I am, where I came from…and I…” She felt tears forming behind her eyes and sighed. “I’m so over emotional…”
“It’s part of the stress of having a major accident.”
“I don’t remember. I don’t remember much of anything except I was on my way to see Romeo and Juliet.”
“Where did you get the ticket?” Faith plunked herself down on the only chair in the room.
“I…” She frowned in concentration. “I don’t know…”
They talked for an hour, Faith asking questions and Buffy replying with ‘I don’t know.’
Faith smiled softly. “Well sweetie, our hour is up. I’ll come by and see you tomorrow. Okay? We can talk some more then.”
Elisabeth nodded slowly.
He stood outside her room watching her for a few moments before entering. ‘She is so bloody beautiful.’ He was finding it hard not to make a fool of himself and ask her to go on a date with him. ‘She can’t even remember her name, what if she has a boyfriend or something? Then he’d be a daft prick for not coming to get her already. But that doesn’t mean she’s even interested in me. I can’t just ask her out. She’s a patient of mine. I’m so messed up.’
“Hello Luv.” William walked into her room and smiled.
She had now been in this room for four days. William had removed her IV on the third day and she no longer needed pain medication. She still had her arm in a cast, and she still had amnesia, so far no one had come forward to claim they knew her. It was very strange to William that no one knew her, she had been all over the news in England.
“Hi William.” She smiled up at him. ‘He has amazing eyes.’ She blushed slightly at the thought. ‘He’s my doctor. He has to see me everyday. Doesn’t mean he’s interested. For all I know he could be married. But he’s not wearing a ring!’ She noticed and brightened.
“How are you feeling today?”
“Cooped up.”
“Any pain? Or blackouts?”
“No. And before you ask…I still don’t remember anything.”
“I’m sorry Luv.”
“It’s not your fault…”
“I talked to Dr. Winters she said that I could take you to where it happened. Maybe that might trigger something…”
“You would do that for me?” She asked.
‘I would do anything for you.’ He gazed longingly into her hazel depths.
“Will? You’d do that for me?” She asked again when he seemed to have zoned out.
“Oh, Yes. Sorry…didn’t get much sleep last night.” He said sheepishly. ‘Too busy thinking about you.’
“I have nothing to wear…to go anywhere besides my room…I don’t really want to go outside in this fabulous outfit…” She glanced down indicating her hospital gown. ‘How is he supposed to be interested in me? I look and feel like crap. I have a patch cut out of my hair and I don’t even know who the hell I am. Yup makings of a fairy tale.’
“I thought of that…I brought you something…I didn’t know your style…so I just…” He went to the door and picked up the package he had left outside her room. “I hope it’s ok.” He murmured handing her a plastic bag. ‘I saw this and thought of you.’
She squealed in delight when she saw the contents, A pale blue tank dress, and flat white sandals. “Thank you so much…” She leapt off the bed and ran towards him; throwing her arms around him she kissed him lightly on the cheek.
William turned a brilliant shade of red. “You’re welcome Luv.”
“I’m sorry…I shouldn’t have…I just…”
“It’s ok. I don’t mind…” William murmured looking into her eyes. ‘I want to kiss you so badly…’ He could feel himself reacting to her body so close to his, pressed up against him intimately, blood rushed from his brain causing his hardness to become evident. ‘Surely she can feel it.’ The thought causing him to turn scarlet.
“I’ll pay you back…I swear…” She looked into his eyes. She was struck by the hunger in his eyes. ‘Is that? Oh my god it is .’ She could feel his growing hardness pressing firmly into her stomach. Her eyes widened in surprise.
They stayed like that staring into one another’s eyes for a few moments, until his pager went off.
Startled he pulled back from her. “Sorry…I shouldn’t…”
“It wasn’t just you…”
Reluctantly he left the room, allowing her to change and get ready for the meeting. She found the white lace thong and matching bra when she went into the bathroom to change.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“What was the page for Dru?” he asked walking up to the nurse’s station.
“Alexander is here. He wants to see you.”
“Where is he?”
“I sent him to your office.”
“Thanks.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Xander? What’s up?” William asked walking into his office and taking a seat.
“Her purse was found. Someone dropped it off anonymously at the station.”
“That’s great. Her Id inside?”
“That’s the thing...no Id. The only reason I knew it was hers was cause the ticket to the play was still inside, and there were some pictures of her…you know like those photo booth ones…She was all dressed up, maybe she took them just before the play? There’s lip gloss, house keys, gum…you know all the crap women keep in their purses…but not one shred of Identification…”
“I have to talk to Faith. See if she thinks it’s a good idea to give it to her, maybe it’ll trigger her memories.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
She sat in nervous anticipation. Knowing that soon William would be back. Briefly wondering how he had known her size so perfectly she jumped when the door opened.
“Luv…”
She stood up from the bed and walked to the middle of the room. “I’m ready…”
His jaw dropped when he saw her. The color of the dress complimented her eyes and made them shine. Her hair hung in loose waves down over her shoulders. She was gorgeous.
“Sorry there was no makeup in the bag…I must look…”
“Gorgeous…” He could barely breathe. ‘Did I just say that out loud?’
“Oh…thank you…” She blushed and smiled. “So are we ready then?” She asked, “I want to get this over with…I want to remember who I am…”
“You need to sit down for a minute...” He said walking over and taking her hand. He was holding a plastic bag in his other hand.
“We’re not going?” She asked.
“We may still go…that depends…”
“On What?” Her heart was pounding in her chest. She was suddenly scared by the expression on his face. He looked totally serious. And worried. He looked worried. She could see the creases in his forehead. “What’s wrong?”
“The officer assigned to your accident stopped by…”
“What did he say? Do they know who I am?” She could feel the tears welling up in her eyes.
“No LNo Luv, they don’t…your purse turned up…but there was no identification inside…”
“Where is it?” She asked fearfully. What kind of person doesn’t carry any id? She wondered briefly.
“Right here…” He held out the plastic bag.
She recoiled and looked at the bag as if it was a venomous snake.
“It’s ok…if you don’t want to look at it…” He mistook her reaction.
“I want to…I’m just scared…”
“Let me just leave it here with you and you can look at it when you’re ready…” He said softly setting the bag on the bed beside her.
“If…if I open it right now will you stay?” His hand was on the door handle when her question reached him.
He turned slowly and looked at her. “You want me to stay?”
“I wouldn’t have asked if I didn’t…” He nodded and walked further into the room.
She motioned for him to sit down. He sat beside the bag he had placed there. She opened the bag and pulled out her purse. She smiled when she saw it. “It’s too smthatthat’s why I don’t have Id iere.ere.” She glanced at him.
“Do you recognize it?”
“No.” Suddenly she was finding it hard to breathe.
“Luv?”
“I just need a minute…” She took a deep calming breath.
