Chapter Eighteen

Buffy was in her bedroom thinking about everything that had happened. She could hear Willow and Kennedy yelling back and forth at each other. Kennedy, it seemed, blamed Willow for what Whistler had told them. Come on, he worked for the Powers, how stupid could one person be? Kennedy was currently telling Willow that it must be her fault that Whistler would say that. She had to be putting off some sort of vibes, for him to get that off of her. Buffy really didn't like her, and did fancy her staying with her too much longer. What the hell had Whistler meant that he couldn't tell her? It was her destiny, but she wasn't allowed to know which one of them it was? That was a crock! Buffy sometimes wished she could find someone who worked for the Powers, and hit them very hard. The thing was, who did Buffy want it to be? That was a very good question, one that she couldn't answer right now.

Angel was just as confused as Buffy was at the moment. In his heart, he knew he was meant to be with her. He wasn't living, well you know, unless he was with her. He had a suspicion that she was going to pick Spike. She'd been leaning towards Spike for a really long time. Hell, he'd even heard her calling him William a couple of times. He honestly didn't know what he would do if she picked Spike over him. It was spike, her arch nemesis. He'd lived without her for awhile, sure, but she was back. She was back in his life, and it was really starting to get to him. Everytime he saw her with Spike, it grated on him. That was supposed to be him she leaned on, talked to, and kissed. Could he continue on if she picked him instead? It was destiny, he knew, but he wanted to be with Buffy. The other weird thing though, Dawn was meant for Connor? That would be very strange for everyone. Connor would be Buffy's brother-in-law, and her Step-son? It was more than a little disturbing.

Spike was turning out to be such a nancy boy. Oh, who the hell was he trying to kid? He'd been a nancy boy ever since he first fought with the slayer. How could this Whistler character know who she was going to pick? Why couldn't it be him, it should be him! Bloody Hell! He'd spent a fair share of his evil days helping the slayer out! He finally found out that Buffy had feelings for him, and this wanker has to come and suss it up? Who the hell was this guy anyway? What did they really know about him? What did he know about his Buffy? He could have her if he wanted, and she should be able to want him in return. He'd bloody show them. The whole lot of them! He knew Angel was sitting in his little bat cave gloating. Maybe not, though. Maybe Angel was just as worried as he was about who she was going to pick. That left a smile on Spike's face. He could at least get a little fun out of this. It'd be worth it too, to mess with the old man.

Gunn was walking down the street by himself. He was still thinking about what that guy had said. Where the hell had he come from? It's like he just appeared out of thin air, or something. How could he have known that he was looking for someone? He didn't broadcast it openly, did he? Someone had asked him why he hadn't asked Faith out yet, and he told them that she was the wrong girl for him. She was too hard, and cold against the world. He could never be with someone that was stronger than him, okay that's not true, but she could throw him through a brick wall. Okay, so he'd thought about asking Faith out, so what?

Just then he thought he heard someone scream. It was coming from further down the street he was walking on. He'd almost thought he'd imagined it, when he heard it again. Then he heard someone crying, and a sort of clip clop noise. After another minute or so, he could see a girl running down the street towards him. She had on a blue shimmering tank top, a really short skirt, and really high heels. Her face, he could tell, was stained where she'd been crying. He couldn't make out was chasing her, but he could see that it was big. The closer it got the uglier the Demon got. He looked around for some kind of weapon, and remembered he had a knife with him. It was sure going to come in handy. Lorne used to make fun of him because of it, called him paranoid. This was just the occasion for it, wasn't it?

Talia was so grateful to see someone else on the street, but would he help her? At this point, she was willing to ask anyone. " Oh God, please help me!" She turned to look behind her, and saw only one of the things chasing her. She had no idea why these things kept coming after her. She'd been at a club, when all of the sudden ten of these things busted in. They'd immediatley gone after all of the females in the room. The bartender had taken out three of them with his shotgun he kept. A biker had taked out another one, that had gone after his girlfriend. The other two had been taken out by this guy who'd just held out his hands and said something. The other four had spotted her, and charged at her. Several people had tried to get them out of her way, and even managed to sneak her out of the club, but they were still after her. Without realizing it, she'd reached the guy standing in the street, and they both toppled over.

She quickly jumped up, and looked behind them. The thing that was after her, was still coming straight at them. She jumped up, and tried to runaway, but the man stopped her. " It's okay, I got this. I've handled these guys before." It was true, too. This was a Demon that Gunn knew how to defeat. He'd come across one of these a couple of months ago, and defeated it easily enough. As soon as the Demon was in his range,Gunn bent down and swept it's legs causing it to tumble to the ground. Gunn immediatley jumped onto the Demon, pulled out his knife, and promptly stabbed it in the head. When he got off of the thing, he turned around to face the girl he'd just saved. She was a lot prettier, now that she wasn't running and screamin.

" Hi, I'm Charles Gunn. Nice to meet you, only I wish it would have been under better circumstances. I work for the law firm Wolfram and Hart, so if you need anything." Talia just looked at him. She finally offered him her hand. " I'm Talia Jensen, and that was only one of the four that were chasing me. Thank you for helping me, though."
