Chapter Seventeen

Angel was in his office when his secretary called to tell him Connor had arrived. He couldn't believe how nervous he was. He never got nervous. The meeting with Lindsey and Lorne had turned out to be interesting. As it was Lindsey really did want to help, and had been trying to find out how to bring Wolfram and Hart down for awhile. Angel hired him, and he would be at the meeting later. He was still going to be very cautious where Lindsey was concerned, and make him sing for Lorne once a month. Just then he looked up and saw Connor standing in his doorway. " Hello, Mr. Angel."

Angel quickly stood up and walked around his desk. " It's just Angel. So, how are you today?" Connor sat down and crossed his arms. " Alright, I guess." Angel sat back down in his chair. " So, what was it that you were wanting to talk about?" Connor's face remained blank as he answered. " I want to know why I kept dreaming of you. I had another one last night. It had something to do with you being nailed in a coffin, and me dumping you into the ocean. That's the first dream I've had that was violent towards you. All of the others were kind of nice. How can I dream of someone that I've never even met before?" Angel didn't know how to answer that. Angel had practically freaked when Lorne had told him that all of the fake memories they'd made for Connor would eventually fade away. It wasn't fair for him to have go through all of that over again. " I'm not sure, Connor. All I can say, is that I will look into it for you." Connor smirked at him. " I think it would be a good idea if I hung around for awhile. Let me work here after school or something." Angel was speechless for a minute. " I don't know. Okay, if you want, then that's fine. I'll have Lorne take you around the building with Dawn. She's about the same age as you, and she's wanting to learn where stuff is. I have a meeting in about fifteen minutes, and then I'll have you two sent." Connor nodded. " Sure, that'll work. I'll just tag along with you to your meeting. It's rather facinating stuff. Is the term Demon a code word or something?"

**************************************************************

Angel and Connor walked into the confrence room together, and everyone was already there. They shot several looks at Angel for bringing Connor with him to the meeting. He looked over at Dawn. " Dawn, this is Connor, you'll be taking the tour tomorrow with him. Lorne will show both of you around." Dawn looked like she wanted to earth to swallow her, because Connor walked up to her. " Hi, how's it going?" She stuttered her answer. Angel looked at everyone. " Okay, let's get this meeting started, shall we?" Everyone just kind of stared at him. They didn't really know how to begin.

Giles cleared his throat, and began. " Well, what I was going to say is that this demon is very near his ascention. It is imperative that we find it, and deal with it before it actaully decends. I've narrowed it down to the last minute when we'll need to actually kill it. If we miss this, it will be worse than Glory." At the mention of the Hell God's name, Buffy flinched. No one seemed to notice, but Spike. He walked over to where she was standing and put his arm around her. She in turn leaned into him, and put her head on his shoulder. This action did get Angel's attention. The fact that they looked so cozy, really hurt him. He'd never let it sink in before, the fact that she'd actually had a relationship with him. With the looks of them, the relationship didn't seem to be over. After a little while Angel was eventually able to tear his eyes away from them.

Spike couldn't believe that Buffy was actually letting him hold her like this. He'd just gone over to her, because she looked like she needed someone. Never in his wildest imagination did he think that she'd lean into him,and let him hold her. He never brought up the fact that she'd told him she loved him. It just wasn't something that needed to be brought up. He was going to have to bring it up, though. He still loved her very much, and he silently hoped that she had meant it when she'd said it. She'd been really happy when she'd seen him for the first time. Maybe things were starting to look up for him. If he could finally have the woman he loved, the he was going to make sure not to screw it up. He vaguely realized that he was getting ahead of himself, but he didn't care. After all, it was okay to dream.

When the door opened, no one seemed to notice. The person that was standing in the doorway began to smile. Everyone was here, which was a very good thing. When they got to a stopping place, he decided to just start talking. " Well, I'm glad that everyone is here, it saves me from having to hunt you all over the city." Everyone froze. Buffy jerked her head up from Spike's shoulder, but didn't leave his embrace. Angel turned around, as well. Angel and Buffy spoke in perfect unison. " Whistler? What the hell are you doing here?" They looked at each other and said in unison once more. " How do you know Whistler?"

Whistler thought this to be very funny. " Ah, come on guys, you didn't miss me at all? I've been waiting for this moment for a really long time." He walked over to where Buffy and Spike were standing. " Nice work on the Hellmouth, Kid. Do you know that you gave me nightmares because of the image you put into my head that day? Anyway, I've got some important messages from the powers to tell you. What you do with them is your thing." He walked around the room, and stopped in front of Lorne. " Man, you're awesome. I'm a big fan of your singing, not to mention your talent. You're doing a good service by working with Angel. I suppose you already know that, though don't you?" Lorne smiled at him. " I sure do." Whistler nodded and continued to walk around the room. He stopped once more in front of Xander. " I wish I could have warned you about that, because I know it had to be painful." Xander looked confused. " You mean my eye? Na, it doesn't hurt much anymore."

Whistler rolled his eyes. " No! I'm talking about your woman! I wish I could have warned you about what was going to happen to Anyanka. She'd been alive for a very long time, and it was just her time to go. She did die very honorably. From what I understand she saved a young man's life, that's going to be a great asset to Angel in the future. What was his name? I know I know it." Xander looked like he was about to go into shock. " She saved Andrew." Whistler clapped his hands together. " Andrew! That was it, he's going to become very needed pretty soon." Once more he walked around the room, only to stop in front of Connor and Dawn. " I'm really glad that you two have already met." Dawn looked up at him. " Huh? what are you talking about?" Whistler smiled at her. " You and young Connor here, are destined for each other." Dawn stood up from where she was sitting. " I don't think so! I just met him, besides, my destiny lies with Andrew." Whistler laughed. " No...Andrew follows a different...path." Andrew piped up then. " Hey! You do realize I'm standing right here?"

When he stepped in front of Fred and Wesley, he smiled. " It's about time you two got together. I've been trying for months! It turned out all I had to do was put the idea into Willow's head, and it worked." Willow turned a bright red. Fred looked very flustered. " We're supposed to be together?" Whistler nodded, and moved on. He next went to talk to Willow, Kennedy, and Oz. " Red, you know you're not supposed to be with her, right?" Willow jumped slightly. " What are you talking about?" Whistler just smiled at her. " You don't belong with Kennedy. Oz has been your destiny since before you met him. You were supposed to be estranged for awhile. You were also supposed to be with Tara for the amount of time you were. She was meant to pass when she did, and now it's time for you to return to Oz." Kennedy jumped and glared at him. " He paid you to say this, didn't he?" Whistler turned to look at her. " Actually, I've never met him before. By the way dude, nice hair. Anyway, Ken, you know that you're not even meant to be here, or in San Diego. I know you know." Without saying anything more, he moved on to Gunn. You could tell that Angel was getting agitated by now. " I only have one thing to say to you." Gunn looked up expectantly. " You'll find her. Actually, she'll find you, and it'll be pretty soon."

Lastly he stopped in front of Buffy and Spike. " Buffy, the man you're supposed to be with is in this room right now." She looked about ready to punch him. " Oh, yeah? Who is it then?" He laughed. " I can only tell you what I tell you. I will tell that it's either Spike or Angel. It is one of them. You'll figure it out soon enough. Well it's time for me to go. Everyone else... keep up the good work. One more thing, Angel. You're going to need to get out of Wolfram and Hart very soon. I'd wait until she wakes up, though." With that he was gone. Spike was shaking his head, with a ruefull smile on his face. Everyone just stayed where they were, and let what just happened sink in.
