SUMMARY:
Prologue
Before he left L.A. Angel made one brief stop at the Post Office. Despite their treatment of him, for some stupid reason he wanted to pay his last respects to the Oracles.
After making his offering, he was a bit surprised when the door shimmered into view. When he stepped through the opening, he was beyond surprised to see the Oracles alive or whatever passed for life with them.
"How..," he broke off, not wanting to sound as stupid as the gape jawed look he knew was on his face.
With a tired sigh the male spoke, "Angel, we are the Oracles and as such are truly immortal. Conceivably, it would take the ending of the universe to actually destroy us."
"Ah," Angel nodded his head, trying to look as if he had already known that piece of information, but was uneasily aware that he probably looked like an idiot. He cleared his throat uncomfortably, trying desperately not to ask the question that was trembling on his lips.
The female smiled faintly, "The answer to your question is No, Angel. Cordelia Chase still lives, however she will no longer be your Seer. She was, regrettably, corrupted by evil. Therefore, the powers have been removed."
"Oh," was all Angel could whisper, his hands clenching in fists. His son, his friend...what more will he lose. Will he also lose the memory of his son like the others? Will he be forever alone? Who will now guide his path for the Powers That Be?
"Angel, you misunderstand," the male said quietly, "Cordelia Chase, in time, will be returned to you. In fact, it will become the first assignment for your new Seer."
Angel looked up startled, "A *new* Seer? I'm getting another one?" After losing both Doyle and Cordy, he wasn't quite sure that he wanted another Seer.
"Yes, Angel you will be receiving a new Seer," the male said calmly.
"So, who's the new Seer...Fred, Gunn," his mouth screwed up distastefully, "Wesley?" Despite all the help Wes had been, had given to them all, he just couldn't bring himself to trust Wes again.
The Oracles looked thoughtful, "No, we will not tell you. As before, your Seer will come to you. And Angel, try not to screw this up again, you won't be getting another one." The male said sardonically just before Angel was propelled out the door.
He regarded the closed portal with suspicious puzzled eyes. If he didn't know any be he he would swear that the Oracle had just made a joke.
And had he been in the room he would have been even more puzzled.
"Do you think *this* time he will get it right with his Seer," the female turned to the male.
"For his sake, I certainly hope so," the male snorted.
The female looked up, heartened, "He came very close with Cordelia Chase though. You would think that after Doyle's death, he would have understood by now."
"True, but then again we *are* talking about Angel," the male pointed out dryly.
At that the female sighed, "I know. Maybe his new Seer will be able to beat some sense into his head," she immediately looked guilty, "I mean, perhaps his new Seer will be able to make him see that the curse is not a curse with a suitable partner."
The male looked at her and started laughing, "I think we've been down here far too long, we're starting to talk like humans."
L.A.
Angel stood outside, silently watching his son with his new family. No, Connor wasn't his son and he was not Connor's father. Connor had a father that was human, that could walk in the sun, that didn't need to drink blood to stay functioning. What Connor didn't have was a monster as a father or a demonic mother, Connor's father wasn't something that flinched at a sign of a cross. Connor had a normal human father...not a monstrous bloodsucker.
And tears glistened briefly in his eyes as he whirled around and stalked away from the house, the very human house where a Connor lived with his human father and human family.
