Willow walked along the empty streets, hands on the straps of her book bag. Every fiber of her being ached at the loss of Tara, she loved her more than anything. So she had made a few mistakes that was not any reason for the other woman to overreact the way she had.
Willow kicked at a stone in the middle of the street. It amazed her that even with no required curfew the people of Sunnydale had enough sense to get inside after dark. She took a quick left and entered into one of the many cemeteries in the small town. She was fully aware that it was not the safety route home but she also really did not care. Without Tara in her life she really did not have much to live for. Besides she could always use the magic Tara was mad about to protect herself.
The night wind pulled at her amber hair. Her green eyes darted around the quiet cemetery. She shuddered at the sounds in the distance. Had she been anyone else it would have sounded like wild animals but she knew what was there. Maybe walking alone in the cemetery at night had not been the best idea she that she had. She closed her eyes for a moment and prayed to Gaia for her protection, the quickened her pace. The faster she was out of there the faster she could get home, where ever that was.
He followed her at a good distance, making sure to stay out of her sight but close enough to kill anything that dared to touch her. He had already killed six vampires that tried to come up behind the woman. This was the second night in a row that she had ventured out passed the others and walked alone in the dark. She seemed so submerged in though that she did not even notice him behind her or the final screams of yet another vampire he staked.
He could smell her tears on the wind and shook his head. He knew she was hurting but that was no reason to try and kill yourself. He knew that it was a very permanent solution to a very temporary problem. He watched from a distance as she climbed the stairs to her family home.
He quickly jumped from the ground below her bedroom patio window to the balcony. He watched as she dumped her bag on the floor. He cocked his eyebrow; she must have been feeling very off, she would have never been caught dead throwing anything on the floor.
He watched as she slumped down on the bed and cried. Her whole body shook with sobs. She reached down and grabbed a pale yellow sweater. He watched as she buried her face in it as she lay back on the bed. Soon sleep took over.
Spike looked up at the sky and cursed under his breath, he was going to have to run if he was going to get back to his crypt in time. He did not want to think about what would happen if he did not. A shiver of disgust ran through him as he jumped down off of Willow’s house and ran towards his lonely prison.
