Hannah Keller woke in a cold sweat. Faces, beaten, bruised, bloody, flitted behind her eyes, accusing, angry, lifeless. People reduced to lumps of gasping matter, souless, empty. Dead. All because of her. All because a few months ago she'd woken with her hands wrapped around her brothers neck, squeezing the life out of the little bastard for stealing her savings. Her last memory a rush of warmth and the floor coming up to meet her, then Brady. Dying, skin blue as he gasped for breath.

She'd barely stopped herself in time. The only time she stopped herself. Now here she was. Homeless, friendless, hiding in an abandoned building, too scared to be around people. The strength, the agression, the stamina she'd acquired overnight scaring her. She'd been impulsive before her...episode, now she seemed to have lost control when she gained her curse. People died, eleven people, simply because they'd ticked her off. Faces and names she couldn't remember, just blood, and meat, and death. The lost souls of eleven people crowding in her head, screaming, pleading, dying again and again in her dreams.

Hannah dragged herself up from the empty corner, ducking crates, old broken needles, trash and things she'd rather not think about, or smell, and made her way back to the dank dreary streets of whatever city she'd crashed in the night before. Last she could recall was the sign that read Welcome to Carterville. She didn't even know what state she was in. Not that she cared.

"Slayer?"

Hannah froze at the angry voice behind her. Turning on her heel she faced the person who'd uttered the term she'd heard too many times in the past 3 months.

"Not a slayer, not a junkie, not a whore." Hannah repeated automatically. Fists clenching in anger Hannah took a step toward the poor fool who looked worse off than she did. "Not anything, not anyone, not looking, not hunting, don't care!" She lunged at the person, rage in every fiber of her being.

The vampire backpedalled, hitting the dumpster hard as the compact but well muscled body hit him mid-torso. He attempted to scramble away as the filthy little street urchin fought with tooth and nail, more like a cat than anything human, or more than human. Catching her up under her arms he tossed her away, scrambled clumsily to his feet and darted out of the alley.

Directly into the stake of another surprised slayer.

"OH-" was all he managed before the holy water soaked stake reduced him to dust.

"He looked like he'd seen a ghost." Dara paused and turned to her dark haired mentor. "Do vampires see ghosts? Hell are ghosts even real?"

"Dunno. Never asked one." Faith shrugged and watched Dara's surprise kill float off on a night breeze.

"Oh well-" Dara choked off with a frightened gasp as something unbelieveably strong, and incredibly grody smelling landed on her back, forcing her to the ground. She spun, tucked her feet under and shoved, a move newly mastered at Faith's hand, sending her attacker soaring into the deserted road.

Dara and Faith both spun, catching sight of the girl they'd been searching for for the past month, picking her filthy self up and ready for another attack.

"Hannah? Hannah Keller?" Faith took a quick glance at the photo and background Giles had given her. Hannah Keller had once been a pretty little blonde, now she looked more like a zombie than anything.

"Not Hannah, not nothing, not no one." Hannah threw herself at the woman, the buzzing in her head growing louder. She landed awkwardly, Faith's well placed foot deflecting the crazed new slayers attack. She found herself spun around and locked in a grip that only made her more crazed.

"You are Hannah Keller." Faith sighed, hoping for at least one miracle this month.

"She was Hannah Keller. I don't know what she is now." Dara came around to face Faith and the girl she held captive. Dara bent just out of range of Hannah's struggles, eyes wide as she stared into the dirty face, smeared with oil, dirt and old blood. "Hannah? Hannah Keller are you in there?"

All she recieved of her inquiry was angry growls and snapping teeth, the fully dilated eyes unable to focus as she struggled to be free of Faith's hold.

Suddenly she slipped Faith's grip, one hand coming out with a speed that impressed both slayers. She took a swipe at Dara, her broken, jagged nails scouring against the leather jacket the redhead wore, before Faith pinned her down fully, knee in her back, firmly pressed to the ground, both arms restrained like a criminal.

"Fuck me we're too late. She's gone completely feral." Dara knelt down, carefully moved the snarled hair out of the girls face. The light from the street lamps revealing blood red where the whites of her eyes should have been.

Faith's sigh was desperate, "I can't. I can't do this." She dropped her face, eyes closed as hope flew out the window for the third time in less than a month.

Dara looked at her mentor, knowing how much it hurt her to lose another slayer, after saving so few. Dara was one of only 15 Faith had been able to save. Hannah would be the 33rd to be put down.

Like an animal.

Dara made it quick.

They left the girl propped up against a dumpster, her neck at an odd angle, a cross drawn in sacred oil on both cheeks and the crown of her head. Another girl lost, another slayer broken and left behind. There were too many in need, and not enough to help them.

"What does her background say? Is there someone we should call anonymously?" Dara chanced to ask.

Faith handed her the plastic covered sheet that was all that was left of Hannah Keller.

Dara bit her lip as she followed Faith back to their hotel. Before tucking the background away she pulled it from it's protective sheet and wrote neatly.
