True Soulmates
Angel’s POV
Buffy always said we were soulmates. At first I believed her. Then we made love and I lost it - I lost my soul. I hated her so much. I hated all of them. My demon was determined to send them all to hell. He would have succeeded if it hadn’t been for Willow.
I should have known sooner that she understood me better than the rest of them. Buffy sending me to Hell just as Willow gave me back my soul should have made me realize that Buffy wasn’t and would never be my soulmate.
When I came back Buffy found me and hid me away like I was something to be ashamed of. Of course, that didn’t work for very long. Soon enough, Xander found out and told the rest of them. Buffy was very upset that her friends knew I was back.
I went home that night angry at her. She had never planned to say anything...to anyone. I did notice one thing though Willow was quiet during the whole confrontation. She made some excuse and left. I figured she went home.
When I entered the mansion I heard a heartbeat. I hoped it wasn’t Buffy. I was tired and having another confrontation with her was just not something I wanted to endure now.
I walked toward the bedroom; I knew whoever was here was in there. When I opened the door I saw that Willow was lying on the bed asleep. It looked like she had been waiting for me to come home.
I watched as she stirred on the bed. Turning and opening her eyes she looked at me and smiled. For just that split second it lit up the room like the warm rays of the sun. I smiled back wondering why she had come to my home.
“Hi,” I said “What are you doing here?”
She looked at me and started to fidget with the covers “I need to talk to you” she said.
I came in and sat in the chair that was near the bed.
“What do you need to talk about?” I asked.
She looked at me uncertainly. “I’m sorry that you got sent to hell. I just didn’t do the spell fast enough.”
As she said that I saw tears in her eyes. I sighed. “Look you didn’t do it Buffy did. She knew the moment that my soul had returned and she still ran me through with the sword.”
Willow said nothing after that, but I could tell then that things had changed between us.
That happened a year ago. I moved to L.A. trying to redeem myself. Then she showed up at my door. She told me she was taking classes at UCLA and that she did some research about anchoring my soul. That very day, she did the spell and it worked. To celebrate we went out to dinner. Soon after we kissed and then I truly knew I had found my soulmate.
I have never been happier. Even Buffy couldn’t make me this happy. Willow keeps me grounded, not letting me get lost in myself. I feel warm arms slip around my waist.
“Let’s go to bed.”
I turn and smile kissing her leading her to the bed getting lost in the passion. I’ve been to Hell, but now I know what heaven feels like.
