Diminished
The pain was intense, but knowing was worse. Caleb was gouging out his fucking eye, and Xander was helpless to stop him. Blood dripped down his cheek. His heart was banging in his chest, and he was screaming on the inside.
He blacked out.
At the hospital his friends told uninspired lies about a random attack. The story was accepted by the staff, as were all things in Sunnydale. He was cared for and given an eye patch. They gave him instructions on keeping the socket clean.
After being discharged, he retreated to his apartment. He needed to be a good little soldier, but it was hard. He would rest, and cry, and heal until the next and hopefully final battle. Everything was different with one eye. Nothing seemed worth doing.
Someone knocked.
"I know you're there, Harris!" Spike yelled.
Xander weighed the pros and cons of inviting him in, even as he opened the door. "Enter."
Spike walked into the apartment.
"Thanks." He said holding up two bottles. "I brought beer."
"They sent you to cheer me up?"
"I have something else in mind." Spike set the beer down on the coffee table.
"What?" Xander asked.
"We might have only a few days to live. We could make the best of them." The vampire cupped Xander's cheek, but the boy turned away. "It's not pity."
"I only have one eye."
"So does my willy, and I get no complaints." He kissed him.
Xander snorted, but leaned into the kiss.
