Accidentally In Love
Buffy stared up at the school building, squinting against the Californian sun that seemed to want to blind everyone and sighed. Sunnydale High. It looked pretty nice from the outside but that didn’t mean a thing. She had been happy at her old school and really didn’t want to start all over again. Especially given her special…orientation.
“Ohh sorry!”
Buffy smiled at the shaggy haired teen who had just almost ran her over with his skateboard and he grinned back with one of those charming little kid grins that could always get the person who has it out of trouble.
“No problem.” She replied turning to look back at the building.
“Im sorry I don’t think we’ve met. Im Xander…you don’t go here do you?” He asked already knowing the answer was no. No way would a hottie like this go to his school without him knowing it.
“Im Buffy and no I don’t go here…well at least I didn’t. I do now though. Do you know where the principals office is?” She asked.
“I found It!”
Buffy and Xander both turned when they heard the excited voice and Xander’s face fell when he saw a towering boy run over to them. He was the typical hunk that every girl went nuts for and he looked like he’d be on the football team. Neither the boy nor Buffy noticed the disappointed look on Xander’s face.
“You found the principals office? Great! Ooo sorry how rude am I?! Angel this is Xander. Xander this is my brother Angel.” Buffy introduced them.
“Brother? Hey! Im Xander nice to meet ya.” Xander grinned happily. He was about to say something else but the sound of the bell ringing signalled the start of school and Xander gave the two new kids in front of him a sorry look before running for the doors before Snyder had his ass.
“So…looking forward to our first day?” Angel asked slowly leading Buffy up the steps.
“Not one bit.” She sighed.
“Angel and Buffy Summers…interesting names.” Snyder said slyly looking between them both. Angel gave Buffy an amused look and she just rolled her eyes at the troll In front of her. This was so not going to be a fun year.
“Angel…you were captain of your football team, an honour student and never missed a single day of class…very impressive.” Snyder said giving the closest thing to a compliment he ever had and nodding at the boy.
“You on the other hand.” He grumbled looking at Buffy with a cold look.
“You had average grades in your classes, never took part in school activities and got into fights.”
“One…one fight.” Buffy replied defending herself.
“That still shows violent tendencies.” Snyder said coldly.
“The girl pushed my girlfriend down a flight of stairs! That’s all I did was punch her back!” Buffy yelled.
“Girlfriend? As in…you’re-”
“Gay? Yeah.” Buffy responded flippantly giving Snyder a huge grin. He could do nothing after that point but gulp and widen his eyes as he quickly gave them both their timetables and sent them out of his office.
“Nice one sis.” Angel laughed, shaking his head at his little sister.
“God he’s horrible.” She sighed looking down at her timetable and groaning when she saw history as her first class.
“See ya around Angel.” She grunted before running off to find her class.

Willow sat docilely in her seat taking notes as the teacher talked her way through World War 1. This was their first day back after summer and they usually did no work today but Miss Kemp couldn’t have gotten that message not that Willow minded. She loved school unlike her best friend Xander who was currently asleep at his desk. She didn’t look up straight away when she heard the door open but she did after she heard the teacher stop talking and the students start. When she finally did she blushed red at the blonde who was standing there awkwardly. Xander had said there was a new girl and he had seemed really excited about her. Willow could see why.
The girl was beautiful. Blonde hair that looked thick and silky, large hazel eyes and pouty lips that looked so kissa-
Oh god shut up. Willows brain cried when she realised she was thinking about another girl like that. Sure it had happened before but she did try to stop it before her thoughts turned completely pervy. She wasn’t a lesbian. She couldn’t be. She had never really had a boyfriend or a girlfriend and she had certainly never been kissed and she got terrified every time she thought of a girl like that. Sadly for her Buffy had spotted the red head checking her out and grinned when she saw the blush creep up her cheeks as she dropped her eyes to study her table.
Hmmm interesting.
“Um Hello. You’re the new student I assume?” Miss Kemp guessed giving the girl a warm smile and gesturing to come in further.
“Why don’t you tell us about yourself and then take a seat.”
Buffy sighed and looked towards the faces all staring at her and groaned. She hated this kind of crap. All the guys were staring at her with leers on their faces and all the girls looked at her with either curiosity or hostility. Typical high school.
“Hi. My names Buffy and yes that’s my real name.” She started already getting a little chuckle from the class.
“Im originally from New York but moved to Los Angeles when I was six and now here I am. I have brother Angel whose also just transferred here to…that’s It really.” She shrugged before taking her seat next to a brunette girl in expensive clothes. The girl leaned over and Buffy couldn’t help smiling when she caught a glimpse of the girls thigh in her short skirt.
“Hi…Im Cordelia. Im head cheerleader.”
Buffy raised an eyebrow at her little introduction. Head of the cheerleaders…is that supposed to impress me?
“Um hey.” Buffy replies back.
“Listen I want to talk to you after this lesson okay?” The girl smiled flashing her pearly whites and Buffy shrugged before turning back to the board.
“So from L.A to Sunnydale huh? Why would anyone do that! Moving that far away from that many shoes.” Cordelia tutted in disgust. She had her arm looped into Buffy’s and six identical clones of her were on each side of them. Buffy felt like she was trapped and being led to her death but she didn’t say anything and just kept quiet until they reached a water fountain that she was beyond happy to see.
The red head from class earlier was standing next to it and Buffy smiled. There was something about this girl and she really wanted to speak to her but before she could Cordelia butted in.
“Willow…nice dress! Nice to see you’ve found the softer side of sears.” She snapped nastily getting a giggle from her followers except Buffy who just glared at her.
“My mom picked it out.” Willow replied timidly trying to avoid looking at the blonde.
“Nice. Are you done?”
The tone Cordelia used was so vile that even Buffy flinched. She saw the girl…Willow, look down at the floor and Buffy saw red. How dare this little daddies girl insult someone so nice!
“Actually Cordy I don’t think she is done…and just to let you know. Coming from a Los Angeles gal…everyone’s wearing that this season.” Buffy giggled flakily before linking arms with Willow and marching away leaving a stunned Cordelia behind.
“Uhh Thanks for what you did in there.” Willow said shyly smiling at the girl who had just infuriated the entire cheerleading squad in one go.
“You know you’ll be an outcast now.” Willow warned feeling bad for the girl suffering just because of her.
“No problem. I would have been one anyway eventually trust me. Im Buffy Summers. Nice to meet you.” She grinned.
“Im Willow Rosenberg. Nice to meet you too.” She blushed taking a seat on a bench while Buffy took the space next to her.
“So I hear your the big brain around these parts…any chance of tutoring? Im rather slow on that front.” Buffy sighed.
“Sure! If you like.” Willow smiled excitedly.
“Willow! And Buffy!” Xander beamed his eyes focused on the blonde beauty in front of him.
“Xander, Hey.”
“You know each other?” Willow asked looking between her best friend and her new one.
“Only briefly. He tried to kill me with his skateboard.” Buffy nodded with a teasing grin.
“Way to go Xan Man. Smooth.” Another dark haired boy laughed rolling his eyes at his friend.
“Buffy since you already know Xander no warnings needed but this ones Jesse. Equally as problematic as Xander.”
The two boys gave indignant cries at Willow’s comment and Buffy laughed along with Willow at the looks on their faces.
“So what do you do for fun, what do you like, what do you look
for in a man, let's hear it.”
Buffy chuckled nervously but when the others didn’t laugh and just carried on looking at her she quietened.
“You’re actually waiting for answers?” She asked.
“Yep. We wouldn’t ask otherwise.” Jesse grinned.
“Umm…well I dance…I like art, music and movies and…what was the other question?” Buffy asked already knowing what the question was but not really wanting to answer it. She had come out of the closet at fourteen and everyone had gotten used to it, not really caring about who or what she went out with but here…she had only just gotten here and what if Xander, Jesse and worst still Willow didn’t want to hang around with her after they found out. She doubted it. They all seemed really nice but she was still nervous about telling them after only a few minutes of knowing them.
“What do you look for in a man?” Xander repeated leaning in a little bit further. Buffy never hid her sexuality and she wasn’t about to start now so she sighed before opening her mouth only to be stopped when Angel suddenly appeared with a grin on his face.
“Your asking the wrong question buddy.” He smirked, flinching when Buffy punched him in the arm.
“Willow, Jesse. This is my brother Angel.” Buffy said thanking her brother silently for interrupting them.
They both greeted him with waves and hey’s and Angel smiled back.
“Listen just stopped to say hi anyway I got to go talk to the coach about trying out for the team. See you at home.” He smiled before jogging off to meet his own friends.
“What did he mean asking the wrong question?” Xander asked with a furrowed brow. They all saw the deer caught in head light look she had when the earlier topic came back up and she sighed.
“I don’t look for anything in a man.” She shrugged avoiding looking at Willow.
“Huh?”
“Im gay.” Buffy sighed deciding on just getting straight to the point. When no one responded she had to turn to look at Willow and she didn’t know what to make of the absolutely gob smacked look on the ginger girls face.
“Your joking right? You cant be…your not…you’re a lesbian!” Jesse spoke in awe looking at Buffy as if impressed.
“Yep so…how freaked are you? Not going to ever speak to me again freaked or have a fit freaked?” She asked looking between Xander and Willow. Jesse was just grinning madly at all the ideas that were no doubt filling his head so Buffy knew she hadn’t lost him at least.
“Im not freaked…shocked yes, but freaked? Your sure?” Xander asked sadly.
“Yes I am more than sure.” Buffy laughed.
“What a waste…oh well there’s always my fantasies.” Xander sighed heavily earning a swat on the arm and a laugh from Buffy.
“How bout you Will? Still wanna tutor me?” Buffy asked feeling her mouth go dry. She had never felt so nervous in her life and she turned hopeful eyes to the shy girl.
“Of course I’ll still tutor you.” Willow replied with a smile and Buffy instantly relaxed. Everything was good.
“Ohh sorry!”
Buffy smiled at the shaggy haired teen who had just almost ran her over with his skateboard and he grinned back with one of those charming little kid grins that could always get the person who has it out of trouble.
