Back to blood

Not really sure what this is, lol. It came from a comment one of my friends made after reading one of the chapters of wishes. With vampires, everything is about blood eventually. It made me think (which is never good!) and I ended up writing this.

Let me know what you think of it, I still haven't made up my mind if I like it or not lol.

A number I've almost called a million times in the last few weeks. Now I finally do and I get voice mail. Oh well...

Xander here. Just wanted to tell you I realized something today. With you everything comes back to blood. I guess I expected that, you being William the bloody, Vampire and all that. I just never realized that it would stain our ‘lives’ so much.

Our first kiss for example. You had been mooching off us for some time before G-man moved you into the basement of doom with me. You were snarky, arrogant and more than once you made me so angry I saw red. Blood thundering through my veins. Looking back now I realize that’s probably why you did it. But then I just wanted to smack that smug look off your face. I never did though.

It came to a head one day. I was cutting timber to replace a shelf in the magic box to the accompaniment of your snide comments and as always I concentrated on you more than was good for me and slipped. Sharp pain and fingers were suddenly wet with blood. I stuck them into my mouth without thinking. Obviously you weren’t really thinking either; because if you had been you never would have crossed the room and pulled them free of my mouth. You drew your tongue over the cuts cleaning away the blood. Then you looked up at my face and must have seen blood on the corner of my lips because suddenly your face was much to close. Tongue now lapping at my lips and slipping inside hunting for all lingering traces of blood. Some where along the line it became something more. From that night I realized that no one got my blood going like you.

Months later and we were entwined together you showing me what a century of experience can teach you. Driving deep within me and my heat driving you mad. Kisses became nips and nips all worked up to the bite. Pain so strong it made the pleasure so much sharper and drove me over the edge. You didn’t spill a drop of my blood. The pillow case remained unmarked.

The last fight was over blood too. The blood that tied you to Deadboy. The call that you followed without thought, leaving me behind. I broke the glass in my hand. Blood once again dripping over fingers, only this time you don’t react. Don’t care and it falls to the floor. The physical pain of the glass going deep into my hand paled in comparison to the pain of you going out of the door and further away.

A click. Then a thud. As the phone is hung up and dropped. oh well message ran out of space long ago Spike. Like me it can only take so much.

The days you have been gone slowly add up to weeks. One too many bloody Mary’s and I’m staggering home. Only I never made it. A demon – not sure what kind it was is suddenly in front of me. Claws and teeth flashing and tearing. The fight was over quickly, I’m a “bloody pansy” after all aren’t I? A noise in the darkness and its gone.

And now…

I’m here. There is blood in my lungs and I’m drowning in it and its staining the ground beneath me. I’m so cold. It’s funny. You always used to tell me you loved how warm I was, I guess all that warmth was in my blood and that’s why you liked it so much.

Then. I saw you. At least I thought I did. Coming towards me with worry in your eyes and begging forgiveness, and then I knew it isn’t real. I find myself wondering if I will ever seen you again and realize if anything the answer has become worse than all those times I wondered since you left. From probably not, to no; never again.

You reach for me with hands that are too warm and it’s all wrong. The numbness spreads and I sink. The last thing I see is your true face.

You were right Xan. For vampires everything comes back to blood. From the blood of your sire you are born. The blood of your victims sustains you, your blood creates new family and the blood of family ties clans together. He called Xan and I left you. I followed the order of my blood.

Never again.

I stroke your too pale cheek wiping blood from your lips and licking clean deep wounds. Xan luv I’m so sorry. I was a bloody fool.

Much later in the darkness there is movement. And the youngest member of the Aurelius clan wakes and hears the first call of his blood to follow his sire and feed.

And he does.

Because for vampires it all comes back to blood after all.

O_O a little weird huh? I felt really drained after that. Let me know what you think anyway, it all helps me be a better writer.
