The wish

I read 1thirty7's wish challenge and this came to mind so thought that I'd try my hand at writing it. I don't have a beta at the moment so I apologise for mistakes in advance. If you do spot one drop me a line and I'll fix them up.

“Here, I think you need this more than I do right now” Anya lifted the necklace from its place on her neck and waited patiently as Cordelia pulled her hair aside.

“Yeah I could use some luck. And a stick with pointy sharp bits.” Anya fastened the clasp around her neck “If that Buffy wasn’t…..I swear!” She smoothed her hair back into perfect position.

“She’s a pain, but that Xander.” Anya turned to face the three sitting in the courtyard laughing and talking amongst themselves with a sneer. “He’s an utter looser.” Anya turned back to Cordelia “Don’t you wish…” she waited patiently for Cordelia to take the bait as hundreds had done before.

Cordelia paused for a moment her thoughts on Buffy derailed.

“Yeah, he could never do better than me yet he picks up Willow on the side. Like he needed more hands on action. You know I wish that Xander Harris never again knows the touch of a woman!”

Anya smiled and shifted into her demon guise with a self satisfied smirk at Cordelia’s startled expression

“DONE” and the world went white.

Cordelia blinked and looked around herself. Anya was gone.

Giles walked past the group and all three turned to face him. He smiled at the three of them, some times it was nice to enjoy the slow days. A quick reminder about training and then the promise of the rest of the night off had all three smiling and talking about new plans for the evening. Cordelia shook off Anya's disapearance with the ease of a lifetimes practice ignoring the daily occurances of life on the Hell mouth. She walked past the trio without even sparing them a glance although her feelings were made clear by the sudden drop in temperature around them. Xander shivered.

Night saw them at the Bronze. Willow and Buffy talking in low tones about the things she could do to prove herself to Oz and sipping sodas and Xander sitting on the edge of the lounge to ensure that there was absolutely no touching, naughty or otherwise between Willow and himself. He looked over at Cordelia and the latest man of the hour. Tonight he didn’t even bother to cover up the ‘lack of fun’ that he was currently having. He just sat and wondered if life was done making a mockery of Xander Harris.

The welcome to Sunnydale sign fell victim once more to a strong sense of irony and poor British driving skills. Spikes exit from the car was significantly more suited to his status as a master vampire than his last and notably missing the empties that has followed his last fall from grace or at very least the driver’s seat.

He had left Sunnydale sure of his plan to woo back his dark princess but during the drive musing about his visit to the hell mouth he found himself stopping in to a dimly lit bar, a complete dive, even by demon standards and nursing a beer as he considered his options. Sure he could still go on to torture Dru into loving him again but he could do that any time in the next hundred years, time wasn't really such an issue to him or his princess. He had taken another swallow from the glass as a thought struck him. His poof of a sire and the slayer, now that was an entertainment with a self life and his short visit had shown him that lesser vampires, bloody fledges with more attitude than brains were claiming Aurelius territory as their own. Maybe, just maybe he should put a stop to that. Besides as an added bonus his presence on the hell mouth was bound to really nark his great dandy of a sire. Mind made up he had downed the rest of his glass and turned the car around.

Now he surveyed Sunnydale with the eye of a perspective buyer. Considering the most important questions; one: what was the most sensible location for his base of operations, two: how was he going to handle daddy dearest and the rest of the white hats, and three: who he would have to kill to get a decent beer around here?

This is my first attempt at a S/X story I have a pretty clear idea of where it is going but I'd love to hear your comments and suggestions. So drop me a line and let me know what you think
