A/N: Since Xander isn't a white hat things have changed. To quote Cordelia “Duh!”

November 1984

"And who is this?" Mayor Richard Wilkins III asked, crouching down to look at the boy curled up angrily on his bed in the shelter.

"Alexander H-“

The boy shot at the woman, who screamed and stumbled backwards. Alexander tackled her and sat on her chest, hands on her throat.

“I’m. Not. His.” he hissed ferally.

"Let me up, Alex. Let me u-Do you want to go back to solitary again?” the woman asked and Alex scrambled off of her, back to the bed. The woman stood, straightening her blouse and dusting herself off. “His parents just died in a freak drowning incident along with his older brother, Kyle. Sad, really. Boy hasn't spoken a word since, but we're not sure whether that's out of shock or relief."

"Pardon?" Wilkins asked, turning to her. "Relief ?"

"Physical abuse-the 'loving couple' was a couple of monsters." she spat. "Beat the boy within an inch of his life before, according to medical records. Kid's been through more in his four years than most people go through in a decade and a half."

"I see." Wilkins said, turning back to the boy. Alexander had short but messy blackish-brown hair and dead brown eyes. He leaned against the wall, nonchalantly slumping, not seeing anything in front of him. "Hello, son." he said to the boy, sitting down on the bed's edge.

"I'm not your son." he replied. "I'm nobody's son. I'm nobody."

"Would you like to be?" Wilkins asked and the boy's eyes slid towards him, studying him. "Would you like someone to take care of you?"

"Why would someone want to take care of me?" Alexander asked, sliding his eyes back to their unfocused position.

"I'm nobody."

September 1999

Xander Harris smirked as he watched Cordelia Chase taunt the redhead-what was her name again? Rowan or something like that. Some tree. Maybe Oakley. Nah, who cares? He certainly didn't.

"You got the hots for that reject Xander?" asked Jack O'Toole, Xander's best friend of thirteen years.

"Do you really think I would sink that low?" Xander asked, looking at his friend. "Man, she's so low she doesn't even register on the charts. Nobody wants her except her loser boyfriend, The Wizard of Oz." Jack laughed and Xander gave half a grin that didn't reach his eyes. He stood, tossing the remains of his lunch in the trash, and grabbed his bookbag, hefting it over his shoulder before walking away from Jack.

He made his way through the halls, sliding like a snake through grass, towards his locker. Spinning the lock - 5, 13, 35 - he opened his locker. The smell of eucalyptus wafted from inside and he looked over the contents of his locker-dried eucalyptus, his leather jacket, a calender, some books, loose paper, matches and some cigarettes to go along with them, and finally a bottle of prescription pills.

Sighing, Xander grabbing the bottle, easily popping the lid off before pouring two of the pills into his palm and downing them. Snapping the lid back on, he tossed them into his locker before grabbing his bag again and slamming the door shut.

God he hated his "condition". Made him think twice before accepting any more enticing propositions from Rakxnar demons.

"Hey watch it-oh, hi Xander." Eve said as she walked into him and then noticed who it was. As she said the last part, she got a dreamy look in her eyes. Xander sighed in exasperation. Eve was a clingy, immature junior who worshiped the ground he walked on.

"Hello. Eve." he monotoned and she blushed bright red, giggling before turning away. But at least it got her away from him. Xander continued down the hallway, heading for the library. He needed to check and see if there was a tome for his father and, if there was, smuggle it out of the library somehow. He heard laughter coming from the library as he approached and pushed open the door. He was met with the librarian Rupert Giles and his Slayer Buffy Summers...and someone new. The redhead and her boyfriend were there as well. All sound ceased as he entered the library and walked right up into the stacks.

"Who is that?" he heard one of the girls ask, most likely the new one. He walked quickly along the rows of books, stopping suddenly when he saw the book he was looking for and slipping it into his bag.

"You don't wanna know, Faith, trust me." said Buffy quietly.

"Oh, I think I do." Faith replied and Xander grinned as he walked back out front.

"You need to update, Giles." Xander said, walking slowly down the stairs. As he reached the bottom he turned to the other teens, approaching the brunnette called Faith. "My name's Xander Harris. It's nice to meet you, Faith."

"How did you-"

"Slayers aren't the only ones in this town with sensitive hearing." he interupted, walking out of the library with a smirk and leaving the to group stare after him.

"He's-"

"Evil." Buffy interrupted. Faith turned to her and grinned.

"I was gonna say wicked hot but same diff, I guess." she said.

"No, really Faith. He's evil-his father's the mayor." Buffy explained and Faith shrugged her shoulders.

"And that means what to me?" she asked and Buffy sighed.

"Just keep away from him. He's bad news." she said in exasperation.

"Right." Faith said. Nobody noticed the gleam in her eyes that said 'Rules are made to be broken.'

Xander knocked softly on the door to his father's office before opening it. He entered and found himself pinned to the wall by an african american vampire in a snappy suit. His father stood quietly and buttoned his jacket before speaking.

"Mr. Trick this is my son, Xander."

Trick quickly dropped Xander and turned back to the Mayor, nodding his head.

"My apologies, sir." he said smoothly, face shifting back to normal.

"We have a serious problem." Xander said, walking over and sitting in a chair in front of the desk, propping his feet up on it. "There're two Slayers in town now. One of'em's Summers the other one's name is-"

"Faith." Wilkins interrupted, smiling and sitting behind his desk again. "Mr. Trick here was just telling me about this when you came in. Feet." Xander removed his feet from his father's desk, grabbing a sanitizing wipe and wiping the desk as he spoke.

"So what are we gonna do about it? Two Slayers means more trouble for you, dad." Xander finished as he crumpled the wipe up and tossed it into the trash. Wilkins just smiled at his son and leaned forward, placing his arms on the desk.

"This new Slayer is different than Ms. Summers. She's unstable, as Mr. Trick tells me. Apparently, an ancient vampire made her watch as he tortured and killed her Watcher before she escaped and ran here. Ms. Lehane-Faith-recently eviscerated Kakistos, the ancient, with Ms. Summers' help."

"That's all nice and wonderful but-"

"You didn't let me finish, Xander." his father said harshly and Xander snapped his mouth shut. "There are indeed two Slayers in Sunnydale, but only one Watcher. Sooner or later the Council will send a new Watcher to Ms. Lehane and we need to do that before they do." Xander's face split into a wicked grin.

"You mean-" Wilkins nodded at his son, matching his smile with a lighter one.

"Gwendolyn Post."
