"Xander," a voice sing-songed into his ear.

"Mom?" Xander asked in confusion. He felt himself waking reluctantly, as though he was really exhausted or hurt. As he came to, he realized that there was a good reason for that. He was kneeling on a stone floor in near-darkness, and his wrists were chained behind his back.

"No such luck," the voice said in amusement. A cool hand stroked over Xander's shoulder and then petted his hair gently for a moment before grabbing it and yanking his head back. "That's not what I told you to call me, is it?"

If Xander could hear his own heart speed up, there was no question that the vampire behind him could hear it too. "Listen, Angel...either kill me, or let me go. I'm not any use to you, right?"

His hair was pulled harder. "Now that's where you're wrong. I've got all kinds of uses for you. Now about what you're going to call me..."

Xander tried to shift on his knees, wincing when he realized how little room he had to manuever. There was also the small matter of a succession of welts on his naked back (funny -- or really, not so funny -- how he'd blocked out the whole naked thing until this moment) from where Angelus had...had...

"Still sore there, aren't you?" Angelus's voice said in false sympathy. "I got you pretty good, didn't I? Just goes to show what can happen to you if you don't obey, Xander. And that, my boy, was just the tip of the iceburg. If you want to see how much fun I can really have you, then keep on pushing me."

"Not your boy," Xander said softly.

There was a marked pause, and then the vampire quickly moved to stand in front of him. "Who am I?"

Xander coughed, feeling the cold air of the basement room seep into his lungs. "Let's see, I know this one -- oh, how about insane psychopathic killers for $1,000, Alex?"

The slap to his face was quick and sharp. Xander only realized it had happened after his face had been turned to the right and he spat blood.

"You know what I want you to call me," Angelus said. "Come on now. Don't make this any harder on yourself."

Xander blinked at those words, and then laughed aloud. "I'm not the one who--"

SLAP

When he next felt the touch of hand to his cheek, he cringed. "Doesn't have to be this way," Angel whispered as he cupped Xander's cheek.

"I'm not calling you that," Xander choked out, trying to keep the sob out of his voice. "I don't care what you do to me, I don't care what you say to me, but I will never--"

"Do you care what I do to your little friends?" Angel's fingers were stroking the line of his jaw now.

"Like you could even get to Buffy, or --" Xander stopped when the thought occurred to him that maybe Angelus had already gotten to Buffy. Or Giles. Or even, oh god, Willow...

"Come on," Angelus said again, stretching out the vowels until he sounded playful, amused.

Xander let his head tip forward, still in Angel's loose grasp, and let out a shuddering breath. "Okay. Okay."

"Okay what?"

Because who knew if any of the others were somewhere in this same building? Maybe they could be elsewhere, tied up, alone or together, hurting or half-dead? What if he could somehow help just by going along with things? It wouldn't be so bad to do that, not if he could figure out a way to escape, or even distract Angelus from hurting anyone else.

"Okay, what?" Angelus repeated.

"Okay," Xander said softly. "Daddy," he added.
