Chapter One

Buffy was walking around the already packed restaurant. It wasn’t even time for the football crowd to come it, but the little seafood shack was already filled to capacity. Buffy was having to work double the tables she normally worked, and she was completely frazzled. Giles, the store owner, was running around crazy too. Buffy loved him like a father, but his nervousness drove her nuts at times. Just then they had another huge crowd walk the through the front doors, and Buffy recognized them immediately. Angel and his buddies had been coming in for a few months now. They always asked for Buffy’s section, and if she wasn’t in, then they sat in Willow’s section. Fred, one of Buffy’s close friends, was currently talking to Angel. She turned around as if searching for something. When she spotted Buffy, she walked briskly over to her.

“ Hey, those guys are requesting your section. How far are you from having an empty table?” Buffy looked at her friend with an exasperated sigh.

“ I have no idea, it’s like they can’t get enough of our stale beer. Tell them to check in Willow’s section, though I’d say she’s just as busy.” Fred nodded at her, and went back to where Angel and company were standing. It seemed she was trying to explain to him about how busy they were, but he would have nothing of it. Fred turned back on her heel, and marched back towards Buffy.

“ He says he’ll wait as long as he has to, he only wants to sit in your section. He said he likes Willow, but he wants to be in your section. I told him to just sit and wait, so try to speed things up if you can.” Buffy looked at Fred like she was insane.

“ I can’t make them eat quicker, Fred. It’s up to them when they leave, and you know that.” Fred sighed, and put her hand on Buffy’s shoulder.

“ I know and I’m sorry. It’s just been so crazy here, and I hate to have people standing up front, you know?” Buffy nodded and went back to her tables. The biggest table she had were people that she was currently going to college with. Parker and Buffy had casually dated on and off again, but they were currently on an off period. He was there with his friend Riley, and some of his other jock buddies. She didn’t know who they were, but she wished that they would leave.

It was a half hour before the group finally decided to leave, and they only left Buffy a two dollar tip. She picked it up, and started helping the bus boy clear off the table. She knew exactly how long Angel and his friends had been waiting, and she wanted to seat them as soon as possible. Buffy moved away from the table to take the dirty dishes into the kitchen. We she emerged back into the dining area, Angel was already sitting at the table with his friends, waiting. She smiled and walked over to the table.

“ Sorry for your wait, what can I get for you?” Angel grinned at her as he spoke.

“ It’s alright, we didn’t mind waiting. I’ll have a dark beer to start, please.” Buffy finished taking their orders, and went to get their drinks. She was so exhausted that she thought she was going to fall over. She hadn’t had time to eat anything, and she was going on nothing but coffee. She brought the drinks to the very large table of people, and took their order. After taking their order back into the kitchen, Buffy sat down on a stool in the back room. Willow must have been walking by, because she popped her head into the room.

“ Hey Buffy, are you okay? You look so tired, and I’ll bet you didn’t eat anything, did you?” Buffy smiled shakily at her roommate and best friend.

“ I’ll be fine in just a minute, Wils. I just needed to take a breather from the madness.” Willow walked further into the room, and shut the door.

“ It’s okay, I’ll go check on your tables, I want you to eat something.” Before Buffy could say anything, Willow placed a wrapped sandwich in front of her and exited the room. Buffy had to smile at Willow’s concern. She was always looking out for her, even though she was completely exhausted too.

She was finishing her sandwich, when Willow returned to the room. She sat down on the stool next to her and groaned from fatigue.

“ I swear, Buffy, I’ll be able to sleep for a week after tonight. Giles is going to have to give us a raise after this.” Buffy chuckled at her words.

“ I seriously doubt that’ll happen. I guess I’d better get back out there, huh?” Willow groaned again.

“ Yea, I guess. That guy was asking for you a minute ago, and I told him you weren’t feeling well. I think it’s starting to slow down, so we’d better get back out there.” The two girls returned to the dining room, and saw that it had in fact, slowed down. She walked around her tables, checking to see if they needed anything. When she got to Angel’s table, he grabbed her hand.

“ I hope that you’re feeling better. Willow said you were feeling kind of sick.” Before Willow could respond, a girl that Angel had called Cordelia had spoken up.

“ I seriously hope that you didn’t cough on our food or anything, because I will so sue this place.” Buffy sighed, because she got a customer like her at least twice a day. Angel glared over at the girl, and spoke kind words to Buffy, for which she thought to be terribly sweet.

“ I just hope that you feel better, because you’re my favorite waitress.” Buffy blushed at what he said.

When the rush was over, Buffy and Willow were eating their dinner with the rest of the staff. At their table was Buffy, Willow, Giles, their friend Tara, and Andrew. They’d all been close since the first week they started working. Giles had hired the group right after he’d opened this restaurant. The others kind of sat off to the side, not wanting to disturb the owner and his favorite employees. After they finished eating, they finished their chores and headed off home. Both of the girls were off the next day, and didn’t have classes to go to. They’d made plans to seriously over sleep. They hopped in their car, and headed to their apartment they shared.
