With a shallow gasp Buffy fell to the ground. Standing over her body, Angelus vamped out. As her heartbeat began to slow he stood up and wiped off his mouth. “Happy Birthday Buffy.” He said with a grin. Turning he started walking away as behind him two obviously younger vamps picked up the dying girl.

“She’ll be mine?” A voice was drawing near, “She’ll be my sister, my very favorite sister… And I promise not to eat this one…” Giggled a voice in Buffy’s ear. Opening her eyes, Buffy waited as the fog cleared and she focused in on Drusilla’s face. Standing behind the lucid vampiress was Angelus, seeing his face snapped something deep inside Buffy and before she knew what she was doing obscenities were falling from her mouth shingles in a storm.

“Why you pig fucking son of a bitch!” She screamed at him struggling. “You shit sucking, ass licking little piece of…” Buffy never finished that sentence because when Drusilla’s hand connected with her skull, all she could think was ‘Ow.’

“Now Drusilla darling why’d you have to go and do that?” Spike said sauntering in. “I’m sure our darling Angel had a plan.” He smirked.

Angel was up against him in a flash, his hand pressing Spike’s throat into the wall. “I told you, boy, its Angelus. Do you hear me?”

“Yessir Angelus sir.” Spike taunted, dropping his trademark grin and then turned and walked out of the room.

Turning down the hall Spike continued towards his half of the castle. “Don’t know why we have to live here.” He muttered in a thick accent. “Factory was fine enough.”

Talking to his self the platinum vampire wandered through a maze of hallways until finally he was at his, turning down it headed to the peace and sanctuary of his room, Spike slowly started to realize he wasn’t alone. All over the halls vampire fledglings were up on ladders or huddled in corners with toolboxes and very tiny black balls. But before Spike could terrorize anyone of them, he noticed his rooms door, wide open.

******************************

“WOT THE HELL!” Roared Spike bursting into the room. The room full of fledglings, on ladders, being conducted by a tall light haired man. It was a sick sight that vaguely reminded Spike of that Alice in Wonderland movie he had taken Dru to see a few years back. One good hit, and I could knock them all over. He grumbled surveying the scene, not noticing that his rage had left his face in vampire mode.

“Spike I presume?” The conductor said in a light British tone. “Hello, my name is Ethan Rayne I’ve heard so much about you.” He turned towards Spike smirking and holding out his right hand.

Spike tilted his head and glared at the hand, licking his fangs. Today’s gonna be a day for the books. He thought smirking. Cos I’m about to start the largest massacre known to man. The fire in his eyes lit up and he brought his eyes up to Ethan’s face.

“Very nice to meet you mate.” He grinned reaching for the hand. “Always nice to eat a fellow Brit.” Faster then anyone could see, Ethan’s body was twisted around his arm bent in an obviously broken position against his back. “Now tell you what…How’s about you tell me what the hell is going on, and I’ll try to kill you as fast as I can, right?” Spike leered into the man’s ear.

“Just tell you what’s going on, or tell you what you can do about it as well?” Ethan grunted, trying to form a plan in his mind. “I’ll tell you both once you let go of me.”

“Like hell you will.” Spike snorted, twisting harder, he loved it when victims bargained.

“Fine, okay, how about I tell you what first, then you let go, then I tell you how, alright?” Ethan’s clipped British tone was starting to sound thin.

Spike pulled down on the arm harder, causing a loud popping sound. By now they had the entire room’s attention.

“How about you tell me everything and I decide if your life is worthless.” Spike said in a threatening voice, raking his fangs across Ethan’s neck. The sparkle in Spikes eye had faded into a dark depth and you could tell that play time was over.

Ethan’s eyes went up to the men on the ladders. He had thought that by now one of them would have come to his aid. I suppose that’s all the hospitality one gets from vampires. He thought quietly. He had long since realized that the fledglings respected the blonde vampire. Now it was obvious why. Though he was usually up beat (for a vampire), and even nice, underneath there laid a primal need to kill.

“Fine. Fine. They’re cameras. Angelus ordered them to be installed in every room. They’ll be working by tomorrow morning. Now if you’ll kindly let go of my arm so we could go find some privacy, I could tell you how to work around them.” Ethan’s voice carried a bit of hope.

“Alright mate.” Spike’s voice sounded friendly. It wasn’t until his legs were already broken that he noticed the cruelty hidden in it.

Still holding his broken arm, Spike turned and started walking out of the room with the broken man.

“Sir! Wait!” One of the fledglings on the ladders yelled. “You can’t kill him… Master Angelus would have our heads if Mr. Rayne turned up dead.”

“Well then I guess you should be worried then, right?” Spike turned and yanked on the arm causing another cracking sound, and another scream of agony.

******************************

Spike dragged his prize into the vacated room across from his, shut the door, then proceeded down the secret passageway that started just left of the closet. Dragging the crying Ethan down a flight of stairs, Spike finally let go of him.

“Alright then,” He said taking a few steps away from the sobbing mess of a man. “Tell me and make it fast, cause I get grumpy when I’m hungry.”

Slowly Ethan spit out the words in such a quiet voice that it would be amazing if a vampire could be able to hear. Luckily for Ethan, Spike did. Picking up a small switch blade, Spike walked toward Ethan with a cold look in his eyes. As soon as Ethan saw the knife however, he started screaming. Lunging forward Spike grabbed his victim who silenced in fear.

“Yeah that’s right, hush now.” Spike said pulling Ethan’s body against his own so Ethan would face the stairs. “It wasn’t very polite of you to scream y’know.” His voice carried a grin to Ethan’s ear, as the blade raised the same area. “It hurt my delicate vampire ears y’know. Almost made them bleed you were so loud. How would you like it if that happened to you?” As Spike stabbed the knife into the sobbing man’s ear, he smelled the scent of vanilla. Unknown to everyone in the room, his eyes flashed a deep shade of green and he threw the body down in a hurry. Launching himself on to the man Spike sunk his fangs into Ethan’s neck, while subtle cutting a thin line on his own wrist. Finally Spike pulled away from the neck and stuffed his own wrist into the motionless mouth. Flipping the body over, Spike tore off the man’s pants and crudely carved an S into his hipbone.

Standing up Spike dusted himself off and looked at the tattered dead body. Carefully he set all the broken bones straight, knowing of the extremely quick healing vampires go through once they’re reborn. Drusilla had broken his left foot before he died, accidentally, however she carefully reset every bone in it before leaving. All but his pinky toe, which to this day is still crooked.

Leaning back on the balls of his feet Spike licked the blood from the corners of his mouth thinking. Creating fledglings was fun and all, but wasn’t very filling. Spike didn’t know why but the blood always seemed thinner to him. Guess he’d have to go out hunting tonight. He’d have to try and leave before the darling Angel figured out Spike had killed his tech man. Oh well.

But before he could stand up he heard a tickling of laughter coming from the top of the stairs. He also smelled the scent of vanilla but couldn’t quite place it.

“Look at you Spike, all mother hen like.” Taunted an all to familiar voice.

“Buffy.” He glared up the stairs and into the darkness in which he knew Buffy sat. Quietly he began to creep towards the stairs. Halfway up them he felt a whoosh of air. Turning Spike glared down to the empty floor below him. Vamping out he could see the blonde girl was now on the floor below him. Laughing.

“Naughty Spike,” She grinned up to him. “Honestly, you would think a vampire would know the traits of his own kind.” Her laugh turned cold, then silent. “I can see you.” She said in a whisper that was all ice.
