Note: This is a sort of Uber, Faith is in Cruel Intentions universe. Kathryn Merteuil and the rest of the characters of Cruel Intention belonged to their respective owner, and that's not me. Only borrowed them for a while.

Different Light

Faith strode down the corridor at a casual pace, minding her own business and paid no attention to the other students that mingling about in the corridor. It had been over a week in this new school that she transferred into two weeks after the school year started.
The first week had been rather quiet for her, then again this was a very high class and expensive private school. Students that could afford to attend the school were the rich and high class and most of them act accordingly. Which was a good thing, it meant that they would leave her alone to maintain their air of superiority, hiding their curiosity inside.
Yes, it was very good thing.
Faith had been in many school, public and private alike. And she knew for a fact that even though this was a very expensive school it did not mean that there wouldn’t be any cliques. The fact held true anywhere; there was always the royalty, the popular, the athletes and others smaller groups, the only different was that, here it took her a bit longer to identify them.
Must be all the uniform, she thought with annoyance.
Though being a new kid, it meant that she would stand out. Someone along the way would give her a hard time sooner or later. She would rather be somewhere that allowed her to use her own strength and carried her own weight than mom and dad’s money.
And here –clearly—money made the different. Faith had absolutely no doubt that the status in the social clique here had everything to do with family and money. Royalty was probably the richest, most popular. The tall brunette had not yet met any bully, but royalty… well, that she had the pleasure of meeting the first day of school.
Kathryn Merteuil.
The most popular girl in Manchester Prep, and apparently – as Faith had found out a day or so ago—was the president of student body. The overly goody two shoes. Faith suppressed the urge to roll her eyes at that thought. The girl was pretty, very, even by Faith’s standard, and Faith’s standard was very high. She was also, surprisingly, small. At first Faith was ready to dismiss her, but something about her forced the tall brunette to take a second look.
There was definitely something more underneath that façade, underneath all that niceness and confident she exuded Faith was sure of it.
Coming to a stop in front of her locker, Faith dropped the backpack down before she reached for the lock, from the corner of her eye she caught a sight of the small brunette in question. Kathryn Merteuil was holding court with a group of her entourage, and Faith couldn’t help but smirk as her deep brown eyes caught the clear green ones.
The smirk just got bigger as she saw something flickered across those green eyes before Kathryn turned away from her.
Snickered to herself, the tall brunette pulled the door of her locker open, then pulled out the text book before tossing her crimson leather jacket inside. She actually thought about taking out her motorcycle, but then decided against it. It had only been the second week after all.
Good impression still needed.
Besides the parental would have a heart attack if they ever had an inkling of her taking her favorite bike to school. Slamming the locker shut, Faith picked up her backpack and made her way toward the first class of the day. The class of which has the queen in it.

Kathryn laughed at some lame joke, the entire group laughed with her, they were such sheep, she thought to herself. None of them seemed to be able to do anything on their own, thus they following her around and imitated what her, doing what she told them to do. It was fun at first, but now it was just a bore. It was so easy to manipulate them, too easy.
Sebastian, her step-brother, often agreed that their little playground that was Manchester Prep was getting more and more boring. And Kathryn had expected this school year to be just like every other before, snobbish kids, more old money and some new ones sending their children here, hoping they would learn the way of the rich and the famous and maybe getting a little bit of education along the way.
Two weeks into new school year, Kathryn did not expect anything until someone waltzed in her first period English Literature class, a new student. A new girl to top that off. At first glance Kathryn thought she was just another sheep but five seconds into the girl’s introduction, in that husky voice, she knew better.
This girl was like no other.
There was something about, something dark, and it wasn’t just the dark hair and eyes. In fact her long hair was only a few shades darker that of Kathryn herself. Dark brown hair with auburn high light where the lights hit it, the brown eyes had twinkles in them, like she knew something that the rest of the world didn’t know. Something amusing, something dark with a touch of danger.
And that caught her attention.
Faith Spencer was certainly someone different from the rest of these morons that hung around her and knew only to follow the crowd. She remember the way the taller brunette seemed to be unaffected by her. And there was something else. Kathryn remembered the way that the other girl looked at her, there was something almost primal in those dark eyes. Untamed and wild.
She certainly was not someone that would surrender to anything.
Then from the corner of her eye there was the brunette, standing tall by the locker. Red leather jacket in hand. The jacket was very much out of place, among all the plait skirt, white socks, white shirt around this place. And Kathryn felt the urge to run her hand on the leather, wanting to see the other girl in it. The image of Faith Spencer in red leather jacket, and possibly leather pants and black boots was strangely appealing to her.
Then Faith turned, and their eyes caught. The dark brown eyes had glints of amusement in them.
Caught, Kathryn quickly looked away and pretended to laugh at something that one of the other students had said. She felt those eyes remained on her. Then the bell rang and the crowd dispersed and headed for their respective classes and the tiny brunette gave out a small sigh, before heading toward her English Literature class as well, knowing that Faith was probably right behind her. She felt almost giddy and knew that the feeling had nothing to do with the class and what they were studying, and everything to do with the new girl.
