Notes: Takes place after the Angel season three finale. Cordy is gone but Holtz (that bastard) never set Angel up so Connor and Justine didn’t throw him into the ocean, Holtz just left like he said he would and Connor moved in with Angel. Buffy-wise it takes place after the season 6 finale except that when Buffy broke off her relationship with Spike he didn’t go nuts and try to rape her, he just ran off to get away from the hellmouth for a while. But he didn’t go to Africa and he didn’t get a soul. Get it? Got it? Good.

Sunnydale 1998
Angelus walked around the lower level of the mansion trying to find something to occupy himself until sunset. He’d tired of Drusilla for the time being so Spike was happily entertaining his Dark Goddess. Angelus’ eyes looked over the various minions milling about in the main hall but his eyes stopped on one unparticular. She sat next to the fireplace using the dull light from the flames to read. He moved a little closer to her and sniffed the air. She was one of Spike’s, he didn’t need her scent to tell, she was exactly his grandchilde’s type. She was young, maybe fifteen, and beautiful. Short red hair framed an oval shaped face with clear green eyes that glinted in the firelight and full heart shaped lips. Spike had taken a liking to redheads lately and because of his helpless state he usually wafteafter younger girls. He could tell she hadn’t been turned too long ago but she still radiated an amount of power that was uncommon in a fledgling. He was about to approach the fledge when one of his minions, Daphne, called to him.
“Master Angelus.” The young woman called.
He turned toward her with a smile; she was one of the few minions who didn’t annoy the shit out of him.
“Daph, my love. How was the hunt last night?”
“Uneventful. No one to my liking anyway.” She said moving to his side then following as he moved toward the parlor.
“Who’s the red head by the fire place?” He asked once he had closed the door behind them.
“Emmy. Master Spike turned her about 2 weeks ago.” Daphne said sitting down in an overstuffed chair. “That’s all I know. She keeps to herself, hunts alone.”
“Thanks, babe. Anything I should know?”
“Actually, a little birdie told me there’s a new group of demons in town. The word is…”
Angelus sat across from her and listened as she told him what he’d missed by staying in the past few nights. Daphne was loyal and intelligent enough, she was also one of the older minions. He trusted her enough to take care of the unwelcome visitors. Over the next few days he had almost forgotten about Emmy until he heard Drusilla sharply call her name from the main entrance. He moved into the hall and watched the two females.
“And where are you going?” Dru asked.
“To hunt.” Emmy answered shortly.
“I don’t believe I gave you permission.” Drusilla said.
“I don’t believe I asked.” Emmy said lifting her chin defiantly.
Angelus began to question her intelligence but respected her courage.
“You’re not my Sire.” Emmy continued.
“My Spike made you and as his Sire you belong to me as much as him.”
“But you haven’t let me hunt for almost a week. I’ll starve.” Emmy said.
“So? Right of the Lord, little girl. You know what that means don’t you?”
Emmy nodded briefly and her eyes turned downward.
“And so do you, Drusilla.” Angelus said moving forward. “I have more power over the child than you, as your Sire. She’ll hunt with me tonight.”
“Yes Daddy.” Drusilla pouted, then with a sneer toward Emmy she stormed off towards the garden.
“Come.” Angelus said holding the door open for Emmy.
They walked in silence until they reached the end of Crawford Street.
“So what did you do to make my childe so angry?” Angelus asked.
“I don’t know.” She said quietly.
He looked at her and raised and eyebrow. She shrugged and continued.
“About a week ago I was on my way out to hunt and she stopped me saying I was to remain in until she gave me permission otherwise. I’d never even spoken to her before then. I asked her why and she said it wasn’t my place to question her. I was hoping to slip out tonight without being noticed, I’m so hungry.”
“And you’re sure you didn’t say or do anng tng to offend her?” Angelus asked. He knew Drusilla was insane but she always had a reason for doing something.
“Yes. I’d never talked to her and I’d only caught glimpses of her before last week.” The girl assured him nodding firmly.
“Has Spike bedded you?” He asked, thinking Dru was jealous.
“Just once, the night he turned me.”
“I don’t understand it.” Angelus said shaking his head. “Come on, let’s get something to eat.”
She nodded and followed him towards the Bronze.
When they neared the club they waited in the shadows. He watched as she stalked a couple leaving the teen hangout. Hunger and youth made her a bit clumsy but she easily snapped the girl’s neck then dove for the boy, digging her fangs into his neck. She dropped his lifeless body to the ground after a moment then picked up the girl draining her as well. She made a few more kills then Angelus went off to find his own meal. When he returned he found her stretching lazily and tossing another body aside like it was a rag doll. She licked a few stray streaks of blood from her hands then made her way to where he was standing, a sated look on her face.
“Thank you Master.” She said.
He nodded and they turned to make their way back to the mansion.
They parted in the main hall. She went upstairs to the library and he went in search of Drusilla. He found her in the garden talking to Miss Edith.
“Drusilla, what’s going on with you and that fledge?” He asked.
“I don’t like her, Daddy. She’s a reflection.”
“A reflection?” He asked.
“Of me. She’s trying to take my place.” Drusilla explained.
“Dru, she looks nothing like you.”
“Not on the outside. Inside. She sees things Daddy.”
“Sees things?” Angelus murmured.
Drusilla nodded but didn’t offer any further explanation. It took a moment for him to understand.
“She’s a seer? She has visions like you?”
“Yes.” Dru said nodding, a pout on her pretty face. “She won’t take my place, will she?”
“Of course not, Princess.” Angelus assured her. “But you have to promise to leave her alone now.”
“Yes Daddy.” Dru said with a smile.
Dru went back to talking to her doll and Angelus was satisfied that she would leave the young seer alone. He made his way to the library to tell Emmy the news. He found her curled up in a great black leather chair, one hand twisting her short red hair the other holding the book of Emily Dickinson poetry she was reading.
“Drusilla won’t bother you anymore.” He said quietly then explained to her the older vampi wor worries.
“She doesn’t have to worry about that. I receive my visions from the Powers That Be, before I was turned I helped people. The Powers would send me a vision of someone in trouble and I would help them, that’s what I was doing in the cemetery the night Master Spike found me. I still get the visions but when I was human it was accompanied by a mind numbing pain, like holy water being poured into my head, now they are just flashes of pictures that are easily ignored.” Emmy said.
“Good.” Angelus said.

Present Day, LA.
Angel finished relating the story to Gunn, Fred, and Connor. Moving the book he’d acquired earlier that night from hand to hand. Since Lindsey had left Wolfram and Hart he sent Angel books he thought the vampire might find useful. In the most recent shipment had been Emmy’s journals.
“So you want us to work with an unsouled vampire?” Connor asked.
“You won’t have to worry about her being dangerous. I can control Emmy. We need a seer.” Angel said.
“And I don’t think it was a coincidence that Angel got her journals now.” Fred said. “I think the Powers were letting him know she’s the one.”
“Are you sure you can control her?” Gunn asked.
“Without getting into details, believe me, she’ll do anything I say. Angelus was her Master, with or without a soul.”
“Then I guess now we just have to find her.” Connor said.
“The last time I heard of her was right after I returned from Hell. She was in New York then. I’ll start there and see if I can track her down.” Angel said then moved to the phone to make a few calls. When he finished he turned back to his friends. “From New York she moved on to Europe then caught up with Spike and Drusilla in Brazil. I’ll call Sunnydale and see if Spike knows what happened to her.”
“Will he tell you?” Gunn asked.
“I don’t know, but I have to try. The only other options are to track down Dru and sf shf she knows anything, which I’m not going to do, or try to find Emmy on my own. That could take months.” Angel said.
“So what happened to her after the mix up with Drusilla was settled?” Fred asked.
“A few weeks later I received word that a conference was being held in Paris for all the major vampire clans. Someone from each clan had to attend or you forfeou’rou’re right to any territory you’ve claimed, which means the others groups as a whole take it from you and wipe out your clan. Spike couldn’t go because he was incapacitated, Dru couldn’t for obvious reasons, and I wasn’t finished wreaking havoc on Buffy and her friends.” He paused and grimaced at that thought. “So I sent Emmy. I trusted her the most at that point.”
“What about that Daphne chick?” Gunn asked.
“Buffy had killed her a few weeks before.” Angel the them. “From what I heard the conference went on for several months and by the time Emmy got back to Sunnydale I was in Hell and the rest of the clan had scattered or been killed. So she left for New York. Gunn, you and Fred should head home for the night. I’ll call Sunnydale and fill you in tomorrow.”
“Alright. See ya.” Gunn said.
“Night Angel, night Connor.” Fred said then moved to follow her boyfriend.
Angel moved to the desk again, picked up the phone, and dialed Buffy’s number. The Slayer answered after two rings.
“Hello?”
“Hey Buffy.” He said.
“Angel, hi. How are you?”
“I’m alright. You?”
“I’m okay.”
“Good. How’s Willow doing?” Angel asked. She had called a few days before and told him of Willow’s attempt to end the world.
“Better. Did you need something?”
“Actually, I need to talk to Spike.” Angel told her.
“He’s gone. Left town a week or so ago.”
“Damn it.” Angel hissed. “Do you know where he went?”
“No clue. What is it?”
“I need to contact an old…friend of ours. Spike is the only person I know of that might know where Emmy is or how to find her.” Angel said more to himself than to Buffy.
“Wait. Did you say Emmy?” Buffy asked.
“Yeah.” Angel said.
“I was at his crypt once and saw some letters signed by her. He didn’t take all of his stuff with him when he bailed, I could probably find them and send them to you over night if they’re there.”
“I’d appreciate it.” Angel said.
“Sure. I’ll go check it out now and call you later.”
“Ok. Thanks, Buffy.”
“No problem. Bye.”
Angel hung up the phone and turned to his son. “Buffy said Spike left but she knew he had some letters from Emmy. He didn’t take all of his stuff so she’s going to see if she can find them. They may give us a clue as to where she is, or at least where she was. ”
“Good. So is Emmy short for something?” Connor asked.
“Yeah, Emerald. Irish to the core, that one is.” Angel said with a faint smile.
~~~~
Connor went up to bed and Angel did some research while he waited for the blonde slayer’s call. It came almost two hours later.
“Hi. I found them. A whole stack.” Buffy said.
“Great.”
“I’ll send them tomorrow morning by express so you should have them the day after.”
“Thanks again Buffy.”
“Your welcome.”
