The Blood Shard

A/N Just messing around with the idea, a crossover has been bugging me for a while.

“Yes another apocalypse, why do you all sound so surprised?” Giles sighed.

“Ok, what do I kill?” Buffy, as usual got to the point.

“Nothing this time, according to my calculations, it has already started. I’m afraid I didn’t get the required book to translate the calendar properly. You know how Amazon can be with postage.” Giles sighed again this time with an air of annoyance.

“Wait you got a book on..... Never mind, if you can get the Urn of Osirus on Ebay, then why not apocalypse books at Amazon. Anyway what happens now? We just sit it out until the end? I knew I should have bought those boots.” Buffy trailed off muttering to herself.

“According to my calculations we might still have a chance to stop it. There is a jewel, the Shard of Blood, which can prevent it.” Giles was cut off by Buffy.

“Well why didn’t you say so, where is it, I’ll go get it, then I think I’m still going to go get those new boots.” Buffy was all chirpy again.

“Buffy it’s not that simple and if you let me finish a sentence I’ll explain.” Giles fixed Buffy with a glare when she opened her mouth, she shut it quickly and her mouth turned to a pout.

“As I was saying there is the jewel, but it does not exist in this world.” Giles glared at Buffy again before she could speak. Buffy just sniffed and looked at the carpet.

“Anya has been helping me research, and Willow helped with a multidimensional location spell. We have found it, in another dimension, or alternate reality would be closer. What remains to be decided is how we should go about this task, and who will go.”

Buffy waited for a minute to make sure that Giles had finished speaking, before speaking.

“So everyone knew about this already?” Buffy looked at the group, even Spike nodded.

“Where was I when all this going on?” Buffy questioned she hated being left out of the loop.

Spike snorted and answered her. “Probably staring at those bloody boots in the shop window.” That got a snicker from Willow and Xander. Tara looked at the pair and shook her head but smiled anyway.

Buffy stared at Spike for a moment longer, they had settled in to a semi normal relationship. It had been hard coming out of the closet or crypt as it were, but the gang had been surprisingly supportive, well all except Xander. And he wasn’t that bad about it. He still got in the occasional barb about Spike but things seemed normal. Well as normal as you could have on a hell mouth.

“Right, well me and Spike will go.” Buffy looked to Spike for confirmation and got it in the form of a nod.

“Buffy are you sure? You don’t want any other backup?” She could hear the worry in Giles voice.

“Nope, we’ll be fine. Anyway, I’m the slayer and Spike has no next of kin to bring bad news to if anything should go wrong.” She shrugged; she tried not to endanger any of the gang if she could avoid it. Willows voice brought her back to the conversation.

“Would Angel be your next of kin? Or Dru maybe?” Willow was rambling.

“Can you imagine informing Angel of my death? He’d throw a party.” Spike snorted as he finished the sentence, yep there was definitely no love lost between him and his grand sire.
Buffy gave that thought a small smile.

“So how do we do this and where are we going. Do we know anything about this reality?” Buffy returned the subject to business.

“We are very fortunate on that, it seems that Anya has been in this reality before in her demon days. Anya, why don’t you tell Buffy and Spike a bit more about it.” Giles got up to finish researching and left Anya to fill them in.

Before Anya could say anything Buffy interrupted her suddenly,
“Anya, did you create this alternate world?”

“Well not created. Changed it slightly, I granted a wish for a vampire there, she was in love with a human and he was a shit.... Anyway let me finish and we’ll get to that.” Anya didn’t even flinch; she had no remorse for doing her previous job.

“In this reality there are vampires, but their legal people. You know they were trying to get a law passed so that they would be added to the constitution so they could vote and everything. I’m not sure if it was passed so Buffy that means you can’t just stake them, for that you need to be a licensed slayer and you have to have a court order or you’ll be arrested for murder.”

“What do you mean their legal people?” Buffy interrupted, not quite able to get her brain to follow what Anya was saying.

“I mean that they are recognized as people in this world, they own businesses, they can get married to each other or to humans, all the people know that they exist along with were animals, witches and most other things that are bad here. They manage to co exist. Don’t get me wrong things do go wrong, that's why there are slayers there as well, but the slayers are just humans.” Anya finished and she could see the confusion on Buffy’s face.

“Ok, I think I’ve got it. So the jewel, where is that?” Buffy continued.

“That is going to be easy, a vamp called Jean Claude has got it. He’s really nice; you shouldn’t have much of a problem getting it.” Anya smiled at thoughts of Jean Claude.

“Wait you know him? How do you know him? Is this another thing like Dracula? You were just friends right?” Xander was nearly squeaking by the end of his questions.

“We were just friends and now you bring up Dracula, there’s another thing you should know. The vampires there are all like Drac, he’s actually from that reality. So no lumpy’s when they feed or fight and they have the whole mind thrall thingy, well most of the older ones do. But it shouldn’t really affect you that much.” Anya smiled brightly and patted Buffy on the shoulder.

“Well good luck.” Anya got up and went in to the kitchen, her job completed now.

“Wait Anya, how do we find Jean Claude?” Buffy called after the ex vengeance demon.

“Just ask any Vampire, he’s well known.” Came the disembodied answer from the kitchen.

Buffy thought about all that had been said for a moment and then looked to Spike.

“When do you want to do this? Tonight? Or wait until tomorrow night?” Buffy asked.

“We’ll wait for tomorrow night luv, it’ll give Giles a chance to come up with any other info we might need and you could probably do with a decent night’s sleep before we go slinking off into the unknown.”

Buffy nodded at his response, it made sense. Also she would have to tell Dawn about it all and arrange for her to stay with one of the gang. She said her goodbye’s to everyone then left hand in hand with Spike to walk home.
