Out of the Hellmouth and Into the Fire

Disclaimer: I own Sarah, Crystal, Jess, Darcy, and John. I DO NOT own any characters from Buffy or Roswell, or any of the songs contained within. Oh and I’m not making any money off this either.

Author Notes: This takes place Buffy season five, right after Riley leaves, Buffy is bummed so her friends take her on vacation to Roswell. I changed stuff around a bit (if you’ve read any of my other fics you know I tend to do that, lol). Riley left just as school is letting out and Spike and the Scoobies are reluctant friends. Lyrics are in ‘ ‘. Song titles and artists will be listed at the end of the chapter in the order they appeared. Feedback is yummy for my muse’s tummy

Crystal laughed as she watched Sarah pull Michael across the room to the jukebox by his shirt.

Not that she needs to. The Bassist thought with a grin. Pathetic boy would follow her anywhere.

She laughed again watching them argue over what music to play. They fought constantly, at first glance you would think they severely disliked each other but if you spent a few minutes with the couple you’d see that they were crazy about each other. She’d asked Sarah once why they fought so much, the singer had just shrugged and told her it was just their way. She glanced over at her own boyfriend and smiled. Max was leaning against the bar talking to Liz. He looked her way, smiled, and motioned her over.

“Hey, Liz.” Crystal said when she reached them.

“Hi, Crys. What’s up?”

“Nothing, I was just watching Michael and Sarah.”

“They’re at it again, huh?” Max asked slipping an arm around her waist.

“When aren’t they?” Liz said.

“Never.” Alex said as he joined them.

“Where is she?” Maria asked from behind Alex.

“Who?” Crystal asked.

“Sarah. I need Sarah.” The girl moaned putting a hand to her extremely pale face.

“What’s wrong?” Liz asked.

“She’s had a migraine all day and her mom won’t let her take anything for it. She’s still on her ‘natural healing’ kick.” Alex explained.

“Yeah, and being around Sarah is naturally healing so point me to her.” Maria said.

“She’s over at the jukebox.” Max said.

“Thanks!” She called over her shoulder as she elbowed her way through the crowded club.

A few minutes later she came back clinging to Sarah’s arm and looking a lot better.

“Where’s Michael?” Crystalow asked.

“Wasting money on songs we can go home and listen to.” The singer said rolling her eyes.

“Is Michael all moved in?” Liz asked.

“Yeah, we moved the last of his stuff in today, which reminds me we’re gonna have a party to break the place in this weekend.” Sarah said. She had bought a house and asked Michael to move in with her.

“Sarah, can I stay over tonight?” Maria asked putting her head down on the other girl’s shoulder.

Sarah giggled. “Sure, me and you will make Michael sleep on the couch. You should be fine in the morning.”

“Michael’s not gonna like that.” Max said.

“That, my good friend, is the point.” Sarah said with a grin.

“Why are you two always picking fights?” Max asked.

“If we didn’t our relationship would be perfect. And boring. I need a little excitement.” Sarah said.

“Don’t you get enough excitement with the handcuffs?” Alex asked.

“I’d rather not talk about Sarah’s kinky sex life with Michael.” Crystal said.

“Me either.” Liz said.

“Anybody thirsty?” Alex asked getting up desperately trying to get a very bad image out of his head. He took orders and went to the bar as Michael joined the group. He wrapped his arms around Sarah from behind and she smiled at him.

“When do you think they’ll reopen school?” Liz asked.

“Probably soon, from what I heard the roach population has diminished.” Michael said running his fingers up and down Sarah’s arm.

“Yeah, but we still have at least a week of freedom.” Sarah added. “Maria is staying over tonight, so you have to play couch commando.”

“Excuse me?” He said.

“You heard me. She needs me.”

“Yeah.” Maria said grabbing onto Sarah’s arm again.

“Is this the way it’s going to be? Are you always gonna put our friends ahead of me?” Michael asked angrily.

Crystal had to swallow a laugh. She could tell he was furious and this fight wasn’t going to be pretty but he still kept his arms around her and continued stroking her arm.

“For one thing, my world does not revolve around you! And another thing, Maria isn’t just my friend. She’s family.” Sarah said.

“I’m sorry. Of course Maria can stay.” He said seeing tears in her eyes. He’d never seen her get so emotional.

“I…I need to get out of here. You ready Maria?” She said quietly. The blonde nodded and Sarah said goodbye to her friends.

Maria waited until they were inside of Sarah’s 1956 Jaguar before she spoke.

“What’s going on?”

“What do you mean?”

“Sarah, you almost broke down. I’ve never seen you like that. Tell me what’s going on.” Maria said.

“Nothing. I’m fine, really. Just leave it, okay.”

“Alright.” Maria said glancing at her friend sideways but remaining quiet.

Michael came in a few hours later.

“Hey.” He said seeing Sarah on the couch.

“Hi.” She said not looking up from the notebook she was writing in.

“I wanted to go after you but Max said I shouldn’t.”

“Max was right, as usual.” Sarah said.

“Are you ok?” He asked sitting down next to her.

“Yeah. I’m fine. I don’t know what came over me.” She said scribbling down a few lines.

“You sure?” He asked taking the pen from her hand and tilting her face upward.

“Yeah. Really, I’m fine.” She told him.

He leaned over and kissed her lightly. “I love you, Sarah.” He said, suddenly needing to hear her say it.

“I love you too.” She said softly, claiming his lips.

“Sarah.” The pained moan came from the bedroom.

“I almost forgot she was here.” Michael said.

“Obviously.” Sarah said with a grin glancing down at the hand Michael had rested high on her thigh.

He just smirked and shrugged.

“I better go make sure she’s okay, good night.” Sarah said gathering her notebooks and disappearing into the hallway that led to the bedroom.

The next morning Michael awoke to the smell of pancakes. He stumbled off the couch and made his way to the kitchen to find Sarah bustling around.

“Morning.” She said. “Hungry?”

Michael’s mouth watered as she placed a plate stacked with pancakes on the table. He nodded and sat down.

“Maria gone?” He asked around a mouthful of pancakes.

“Yep.” She said wrapping her arms around him and pulling his head back for a kiss. “Mmm, tasty.”

“Yeah, they’re great.” He said shoving another forkful in his mouth.

“I didn’t mean the pancakes.” She said leaning back over and licking a bit of syrup from the corner of his mouth. She went to move away but Michael grabbed her and pulled her into his lap.

“Aren’t you frisky this morning.” He said running his hands down her sides to caress the skin exposed between her tank top and jeans.

“Always for you, baby.” She said kissing him again quickly then working her way out of his grasp. “I have to go.”

“What? No way, you’ll be lucky if I let you out of this house for the rest of the week.” He said getting up and pulling her to him.

“I have stuff to do, love. I need to go grocery shopping and pick out furniture for the den and the list goes on.”

“Sarah, none of that stuff has to be done today.” He said dipping his head and nuzzling her neck.

“Yes it does.” Sarah said but even as she did her hands went to his head to hold it to her neck.

“No.” He said moving his lips down to her collarbone.

“Oh, Michael.” Sarah moaned clutching him as her knees went weak.

“Am I interrupting?” Isabel asked from the doorway.

“Shit! Isabel, don’t you know how to knock.” Michael said throwing her an evil look.

“Nope!” She said brightly. “You ready, Sarah?”

“Yeah. Eat your breakfast, honey. I’ll be back later.” Sarah said kissing Michael’s cheek then hurrying past him.

“Bye Michael.” Isabel said sweetly and turned to follow Sarah.

“Why me?” Michael asked the empty room as he walked to the table and sat down.

“Is it possible for you two to keep your hands off each other for ten minutes?” Isabel asked as they walked to her jeep.

“It is, but why would we want to?” Sarah countered.

“You’re awful.” Isabel said.

“And I love it!” Sarah said smiling.

They spent several hours getting the things Sarah needed, it was late afternoon by the time they finished. When Sarah entered the house she found a note from Michael on the fridge.

Sarah,

Went to the club with Max, I’ll see you there.

Michael

Sarah got ready and drove to the club to find Michael and Max sitting at a table by the stage.

“Hi.” She said leaning down and kissing Max on the cheek then moving to Michael. She put a hand behind his head and pulled his lips to hers kissing him passionately. “I missed you.” She whispered when they finally came up for air.

“Isn’t that cute.” Crystal said as she sat down beside Max and took his hand.

“Oh please. You’re calling us cute? Take a look in the mirror and get real.” Sarah said as she sat on Michael’s lap.

“Did you get everything done?” Michael asked.

“Yep. I think you’ll like the furniture I picked. If not we’ll take it back.” Sarah said.

“Let me guess. Black leather?” Max asked.

“Bingo. Give the man a prize.” Sarah said with a grin.

“We better get backstage.” Crystal said standing up.

“Yeah. See you guys in a bit.” Sarah said moving to follow her friend.

Buffy looked around the club and smiled. She was actually feeling pretty good. When they had first arrived in Roswell she was sure she’d be depressed the whole time but when they’d entered the club she felt better all of a sudden.

“The band’s about to go on.” Xander said.

“What are they called?” Anya asked.

“The Believers. I’ve heard of them from Oz but I never actually heard their music. They were huge in New York.” Crystalow said.

They watched as the band filed onto the stage. Buffy looked at each member but her eyes caught on the singer. There was something about her but the slayer couldn’t put her finger on it. She shrugged and concentrated on the slow beat the guitarist started. At it’s end they moved right into the next song and Buffy really enjoyed the band. Finally they came to the last song of the night and the performance wound down.

“Thanks for coming out.” The singer said. “I’m Sarah and we’re the Believers, we’ll be here again tomorrow night. Hope to see you then.”

Buffy watched as the singer and bassist walked down to a table near the stage where a group of kids waited for them.

“I’m gonna go talk to the band.” Buffy said suddenly. She wasn’t sure what compelled her to but she found herself moving toward them.

“Me too. Tara?” Crystalow said.

“Sure.” The blonde witch said taking her girlfriend’s hand and following Buffy.

“I loved the new song.” A dark haired girl was saying as they got to the table.

“Yeah Sarah, great beat.” A tall blonde added.

“Hi.” Buffy said. “I just wanted to say I really liked your music.”

“Yeah, do you guys have a CD out?” Crystalow asked.

“Thanks, and no.” Sarah said. “I’m Sarah.”

“I’m Buffy.” The slayer said holding her hand out.

“I’m Crystalow and this is my girlfriend Tara.”

“I’m Crystal.” The bassist said.

“I’m Max, this is Michael, Liz, Maria, Isabel, and Alex.” He said as he pointed to each person at the table.

“You guys aren’t from Roswell, are you?” Liz asked.

“That obvious, huh? Nope. We’re on vacation from Sunnydale, California.” Buffy said.

“Cool. You wanna sit?” Max asked.

“We do but our friends are over there.” Willow said.

“Bring them over.” Liz suggested.

“Okay.” Buffy said and motioned to Xander, Anya, and Spike who were watching them.

“Guys, this is Xander, Spike and Anya.” Buffy said once the others joined them.

They all made introductions then pushed two tables together so everyone could sit.

“Are you guys in college?” Alex asked.

“Willow, Tara, and I go to USC. Xander works for a construction place, Anya works in the local magic shop and Spike just hangs around like a big loser.”

“Hey, I resent that, pet.” Spike said.

“Resemble, you mean.” Buffy shot at him.

“Goddess, will you two cut it out.” Willow said then turned to the group. “They’re always like this.”

“So are they.” Maria said motioning to Michael and Sarah.

“Yeah, but we live together, we’re allowed to fight. They aren’t involved.” Sarah said.

“Good call,” Buffy said.

“It’s a gift.” Sarah said with a smirk and Michael elbowed her in the ribs.

Buffy and Willow exchanged glances.

“How long are you going to be in town?” Isabel asked.

“As long as my friends keep me here.” Buffy said.

“Hey, you’re having fun.” Willow said.

“I am but I shouldn’t have left mom and Dawn alone.” Buffy said guiltily

“Giles will look after them.” Anya assured her.

“Probably a week.” Xander said answering Isabel’s question.

“Cool. You should stop by the Crashdown Café on Main Street. My parents own it, one of us is always there.” Liz said.

“Yeah, so if you need anything just stop by and ask.” Maria added.

“We will. Thanks.” Willow said with a sweet smile.

“Michael, I’m ready to split.” Sarah said.

“Why it’s only 10:30?”

“I was hoping to finish our, uh, conversation from this morning.” Sarah said.

“You were?” Michael asked with a confused look.

She just nodded and threw him an odd look.

“Oh! That conversation. Yeah, let’s.” Michael said.

“Bye guys. Nice meeting you, see ya around.” Sarah said as she grabbed Michael and left the table.

“What was that about?” Buffy asked.

“I walked in on a major make out session this morning.” Isabel said.

“I see.” Buffy said with a small laugh.

“Believe me, you don’t. And you don’t want to. I swear if those two got anymore physical they’d be permanently attached.” Isabel said.

“Are they in love?” Willow asked.

“They think they are.” Max said but his eyes said he wasn’t as convinced.
