“My God Will! This is great!” Buffy exclaimed as she dropped all of her belongings on the floor and stared around the dorm room.

Willow nodded enthusiastically at her best friend as they took in the spacious double room. It was tastefully decorated in cream and navy blue with walk in closets, desks, beds and dressers. Peering out of the window Buffy took in the views of the woods behind the campus.

“Wonder where my roomie is.” Buffy mused as she dropped herself on the nearest bed, bouncing to test it. It was delightfully springy and Buffy’s mind began to wander.

“The initials say W.G. on the letter. You’ll have to wait till she arrives.” Willow replied without looking up. She was still slightly miffed that Buffy had forgotten to request a twin room to share with her. They’d been inseparable since Buffy and her mom and sister had moved to Sunnydale from LA over 4 years ago.

“I’d better unpack.” Buffy said with a sigh. She got up and moved towards her suitcases. Willow gave her thumbs up that contradicted her sad smile and disappeared out the door.

Watching the door shut behind her best friend Buffy slumped down next to her cases. She had no recollection of offending her best friend but Willow had been distant all week. Ever since they had started packing for college. They were taking the same classes, living in the same halls. Practically living the same life except for the fact Buffy was dismally single and Willow was living the life of the blissfully attached.

After she finished unpacking and folding things neatly into her closet, Buffy stopped to inspect her new home. Her clothes were all in the closet, her books were all on her desk and her pictures were next to her bed, which Mr Gordo presided over. All that was missing was her mysterious roommate. She hadn’t attended any of the orientations or halls of residence meetings. And what kind of name begins with a W? Buffy pondered.

She shrugged. If this girl wasn’t going to turn up then she could reap the benefits of not having to share with someone who, for all Buffy knew, could be some evil Celine Dion loving neat freak.

She took a final look around her new room and smiled. This was gonna be great.

Mom free and best of all, Little Sister free!

She grabbed her bag and locked the door behind her, safely pocketing the key she headed to The Bronze to watch Oz play.

Buffy came back from The Bronze fairly early due to classes the next morning. Feeling slightly assured of her own strength and martial arts skills, she tried to ignore the man that was yelling in one of the rooms as she unlocked her own door.

Pushing open the door, she came face to face with the source of the noise.

A man, with extreme bleached white hair and an obvious aversion to colour and sunlight glared at her as she paused in the open doorway.

“See?” He ranted. “I’m not livin’ with no bloody bint!”

“Excuse me?” Buffy gasped, turning to a guy she recognised as the Housing RA. “What the hell are you doing in my room?”

The man gulped audibly, turning from the man to Buffy and back.

“There’s um- um- see, there’s been a miscalculation with the dorms and um- well, um-” He edged closer to the door, smiling apologetically at Buffy. “He’s your roomie!” He called back as he ran down the corridor as fast as his little legs could carry him.

“Did he just say what I think he said?” Buffy asked quietly.

This man was obviously some kind of freak. He was dressed from head to toe in tight black clothing with a shock of bleach on his head, his muscles bulging out of his tee-shirt and rippling over his abs and –whoa!

Buffy stomped on that train of thought as quick as she could. Ogling Freak Boy’s muscles was just wrong.

She blamed it on the fact that she’d been single now for more than 6months. And it was starting to show.

The Freak was smirking at her by the time her eyes reached his face. She ignored the knowing look and tapped her foot on the floor expectantly.

“What?” He snapped. He’d spent the last 13 hours on an aeroplane and on arrival he’d been informed that the University had given his luxury single room had been given to some Jock on a scholarship from Iowa.

And now here he was, staring down a short blonde bint wearing one of the shortest skirts he’d ever seen.

He tore his eyes away from her legs for a second and registered the anger on her face. He grinned at her saucily,

“So love, which side of the bed do you sleep on?”

She snorted in disgust.

“I’m not sleeping in the same room as you. You’re going to get out of my room before I call Security.” She told him slowly.

“Sorry pet,” He told her, “But this is my room too. I’m stuck with you whether you like not. You think I want to live with some pansy girl, listen to girly chats, crap girly music and-”

“Hey!” She cut him off. “You think I want to live with some freak? First thing in the morning this is getting sorted out.”

“Fine.” He huffed.

“Fine.” She replied, grabbing her un-sexiest PJ’s and disappearing to the bathrooms. He was in bed in the dark by the time she got back.

Listening to her climb into bed, Spike drifted off to sleep, dreams of the blonde in the bed next to his filling his head.
