Prologue
Riley Finn was in heaven. The girl of his dreams, Buffy Summers had just accepted his class ring to go steady with him. He had been fawning over her since she moved here her freshman year. They were seniors now and also a couple. Life couldn’t get any better.
Buffy was beautiful. She was petite, tanned, toned and blonde. A typical California girl next door but there was nothing typical about her. She was quirky and while she had the looks and money to be popular, she hung with who she felt were her true friends, the geeks of the school. Her two best friends, Willow Rosenberg and Xander Harris had lived in Sunnydale their whole lives and had been best friends just as long. They had both adopted Buffy into their friendship and the three were like peas in a pod.
Riley didn’t mind that Buffy hung out with a couple of dorks. She was the most beautiful girl in school and her flaws could be overlooked. Riley himself hung with the likes of Cordelia Chase, Harmony Kendall and Parker Abrams, the “in-crowd” of Sunnydale High. To be honest, Riley was kind of a dork himself but his daddy and mommy had money and that gave him access to the popular crowd. He did have to put up with the jokes about his crazy mom though as a price.
Drusilla Finn had been mentally ill for years, as far as Riley could remember. She was in a constant state of medicated or alcohol induced bliss. He never really had a mother even with her there. His dad was the one who took care of him, had been his father AND mother. He loved his mom but sometimes wondered why or how his dad could stay with her. He was more her nursemaid than her husband.
None of that mattered though now, because Riley Finn was in heaven. Buffy Summers was his girlfriend now and no one would ever take her away from him. It was the happiest day of his young life. He couldn’t wait to get home and tell his dad.
