Title : A Letter Of Reason
Timeline : Right after the end of "As You Were"
Summary : Spike writes Buffy a letter explaining the events of "As You Were"

Buffy has just broken off the whatever it was with Spike. He is heartbroken. Spike watches Buffy leave. He is trying to hold it together until she is out the door. He hears the door shut and breaks down into the tears he has been holding back since Buffy followed Riley into the downstairs of the crypt. He picks up a charred something and throws it against the wall. It crumbles to powder on impact.
"Damn her. Damn her. Damn her. Damn her. Damn me. I told her I wasn't going to be her whipping boy anymore and that's just what I am. Her bitch. She doesn't even care that I was doing it for her. Not that I had the bleedin' chance to tell her that with Captain Cardboard around. Yea I screwed up but I just wanted to have enough money so she wouldn't reek of grease anymore. She says being with me is killing her. It's that damned place that's killing her. Not me. Fine. She wants to live in denial let her. I don't need to follow her around like a puppy begging for a scrap of her attention. I thought we'd turned a corner on her birthday, but no. Then when she came into the crypt and asked me to tell her I loved her. We actually had sex without fighting or roughing up. She was sleeping all cuddly next to me and BAM in walks Captain Cardboard. What a prick. At least I got to rub that I'm shagging her in his face. Even if it is his bloody fault that she left me. Bastard. I can't believe she called me William. God that means she's really serious this time. We were getting along so well before we started shagging. We talked. We drank. It drove me mad. This is worse than Dru. Damn bitch made me feel human. I have to do something to get her back. But what? Kidnapping her until she likes me again won't work. Sure as hell didn't work on Dru. Maybe I can work the jealousy angle. She tried that on me. Ok not really that git Xander did. Balls and I'm going to his wedding. I know. I'll write her a letter. No. I won't be whipped. No. I will write her a letter."

Iw yow your confused. I betrayed your trust. I don't know how to say I'm sorry enough. I hurt you. But you hurt me too. I have feelings too whether you choose to acknowledge them or not. You used me and I didn't care. I was just happy to have a shred of your attention. The funny thing is some days I thought I saw sparks of love. Hints of affection. I LOVE YOU. Full on no holds barred love you. You may try to convince yourself it's a lie but you know it's true. I'm not perfect. Neither are you. I don't know how I'm going to win your trust back. I appreciate that you treated me like a man after you stomped on my heart. You make me want to be a better man, but when you treat me like dirt I feel my efforts are in vain and I just want to give up. I won'therther telling you why I was trying to make money with the eggs. You wouldn't believe me. Just remember you are a part of me and I would do anything for you. I love you. Please forgive me as I forgive you.

He folds up the letter and heads towards the crypt door. He stops. Turns around. Looks at the wreckage of his crypt.
"Sod it."
He burns the letter and sits down in a corner of the crypt and cries.
