Chapter 31

Chapter Thirty – One

Buffy glanced down at Giles, lying there motionless and
her instinct was to go to him. She knew however, getting anywhere
near Quentin would be a grave mistake.
"Don't worry. I brought more for our party." Snapping his
fingers, several big burly men all in black came rushing down the
stairs. They cast menacing looks about the room as they stood on
either side of Quentin.
"And the fun just keeps on leaving," Buffy muttered.
"How did you find us?" Lindsey asked Quentin, his whole
body tense.
"Easy, my boy. Buffy disappeared before you did—did
you
think I didn't notice? I know everything. You have to be careful. The
walls have ears. Just took a bit of investigative work and here you
are. Or rather, here I am. Should have known something was up when
you wanted to see Rupert. . . He always was trouble."
"I can see how someone lacking humanity would think
that," Angel remarked dryly.
"Oh Angelus, you do have quite the sense of humor!"
Quentin chuckled. He turned his gaze to Buffy, wrinkling his
nose. "You're disgusting, involving yourself with filth like them.
What would your mother say?"
"She loved them. She loved them as if they were her own
flesh and blood! You took me from my home. You gave me false
memories. You made me believe that my mother was brutally murdered by
the very vampires who would have stopped at nothing to protect her!
You're the filth, Quentin. You're a sick, twisted man. You deserve to
rot in hell."
"You have been nothing but trouble to me Buffy. I had
such high hopes for you. You were doing so well, your fighting
impeccable, your magic growing. Think of what an asset you could have
been to the world. To other Slayers like you."
"How many times do I have to tell you? I'm. Not. A.
Slayer!" Buffy screamed at him.
Quentin didn't flinch at her outburst. Instead, he
gestured to the men surrounding him. "See these men Buffy? Do you
know that you've already helped?"
"What the hell are you talking about?" Lindsey asked,
fearing he had an idea.
"All those tests . . . all that blood I took. Their
strength is enhanced. I believe you'll find them up to Slayer
capacity. Who knows, maybe even stronger," Quentin smiled
brightly. "Just imagine what kind of power you could have Buffy. You
could teach others to be just like you. To have your strength; your
power. You don't need laws. You are the law."
"You're sick," Buffy murmured.
Quentin shrugged. "Perhaps."
"You're going to pay for what you did, Travers," Spike
snarled.
"You think so? I don't know about that." He sighed,
looked around the room. "I'm bored now. Boys? Why don't you show
Buffy and her vampires what you've got."
"Can't fight your own battles, huh Quentin?" Lindsey
shouted out.
"Why fight when I can have front row seats to watch you
all die?"
"You're not God, Quentin!" Angel barked as he threw a
punch at the man in front of him.
"Not yet anyway," Quentin said jovially.
Her hands at her sides, Buffy formed a ball of energy in
her palm and pitched it at one of the men stalking Spike. The man
flew against the wall and took out of his friends behind him. They
both landed with a hard thud against the wall and slumped to the
floor.
"Thanks kitten," Spike said kindly.
"No problem hun."
Buffy ran to the aid of Angel, taking on one as he took
the other. She kept her eye on Lindsey and felt it in her body when
he started to wear. Angel and Buffy managed to clunk the two heads
together and send them sinking to the ground. Quickly, Buffy went to
help Lindsey as Angel went to help Spike take out the resurrecting
men.
It was a flail of arms and legs, kicking, punching, exerting
strength and power. Buffy knew she couldn't care about the lives of
these men. If she did, they'd all be dead. It was self-defense plain
and simple. And as one man flew against the wall and blood splashed
against the wall, Buffy said a quick prayer for the fallen man and
moved on. Buffy stopped when she felt Lindsey grab her hand.
'We need to bind them, can you try it?' He asked through her
mind.
'I'll do anything,' she replied back.
'Imagine them tied up like a mummy. Together the bonds will
be stronger. You have to concentrate Buffy. Focus on it. It's the
only way to help them.'
Buffy's heart was fluttering inside her chest as she heard
the grunts around her of fighting and every part of body wanted to
fight alongside her mates. She knew though, this would help and be
more efficient. So, with blood trickling down the side of her face
and a large bruise swelling above her eyes, Buffy focused, holding
tightly to Lindsey's hands.
The silence grew in the room. The sounds of fighting less,
and her heart soared with the knowledge that it was working.
Buffy felt herself being grabbed and her grip on Lindsey was
shattered as Quentin hauled her against him, digging a razor sharp
stake just under her chin. She let out a wail at the feel of it
pressing sharply into her skin.
Fighting ceased. Buffy noted there were only a few left, and
she winced as Angel took a hit, and was knocked to the ground. He
barely seemed to notice though as his eyes were on Buffy. Spike let
out an animalistic roar and snapped the neck of the man who'd
attacked Angel. Angel jumped up and 'staked' the one running at
Spike. Together they managed to take out the remaining man who was
now going after Lindsey.
"Let. The. Girl. Go."
Buffy's eyes widened. Giles. Whatever he had used to stop
Quentin from pressing the stake against her throat worked, because
his arms dropped a second later. She spun around and backed away,
assessing the situation. Giles stood behind Quentin, his arm
outstretched and pointing whatever it was into Quentin's back. She
could see that he was in pain, and only spurred on by anger. Blood
was trickling from the side of his head.
"Giles, Giles, Giles. When will you learn to stop.
Defying. Me!"
The minute Quentin moved Buffy rushed forward to stop him
at the same time Lindsey, Angel and Spike charged forward. Knocking
whatever it was out of Giles' hand and shoving Giles against the
wall, Quentin produced a gun from his pocket and aimed it at Buffy.
"NO!!" Angel, Spike and Lindsey roared, but only Lindsey
made it in time and he flew at her as the gun went off, sending him
to the ground and catching the bullet in his shoulder.
Buffy landed hard on the floor and Lindsey landed on top
of her. Angel and Spike charged Quentin. Spike grabbed hold of his
wrist and snapped it, effectively knocking the gun to the floor.
Quentin let out an agonizing cry and started to reach for something
in his coat.
"Why don't you learn when to stop!" Angel shouted and
grabbed other wrist, snapping it. Quentin fell to the ground, his
hands limp and dangling.
Giles in the meantime had gotten up, and looking down at
the whimpering Quentin, kicked him in the stomach. "You disgusting
bastard. You will pay for all you've done," and he kicked him
again. "Maybe now you'll learn not to defy ME."
"Are you all right?" Lindsey grunted, moving off of Buffy
and landing on his back on the floor.
"Lindsey, you've been shot!" Buffy exclaimed and started
to rip his shirt, trying to find where he'd been hit.
He looked down at the blood seeping from his shirt. "So I
have."
"Lindsey, where? I can't find it!" Her hands were
trembling.
"It's okay Buffy. It's just my shoulder," he grunted and
laid his head back, squeezing his eyes shut.
"I just can't find it," she said frantically and started
ripping at his shirt, causing more pain than comfort.

"Buffy, Sweetheart." Angel was there suddenly, taking her
hands in his. She looked up at him and her bottom lip started to
quiver. She burst into tears and Angel pulled her against him,
soothing her hair and rocking her against him. "It's over sweetheart,
it's over," Angel whispered.
Buffy sobbed against him, holding onto him tightly.
