A Dream
When Buffy returned to the Hyperion that night, she felt restless. Her body was tired, true, and sleeping next to Giles on his hospital bed had been wonderful because she was lying next to him, but not exactly the most comfortable way to sleep. So her body craved sleep. But she couldn’t shut her mind off. Finally she left her room and wandered down to the lobby. On the front counter all the books that Giles had been reading through were still sprawled all about. Her eyes fell on the book that the Shanshu Prophecy had been in. Perhaps some research would help her mind relax so she could find sleep. That’s what the research usually did for her…make her fall asleep. She was the fighting girl, and not research girl. That was her Watcher’s domain. It got tiresome and boring to her. Just the ticket to help her find sleep tonight. She grabbed the book and carried it upstairs with her to her room.
Buffy flopped down on her bed, lying on her stomach, and paged through the tome. It was barely in English. In fact, most of it wasn’t English, just bits and pieces. And those parts she could decipher gave her no revelations at all. It didn’t take long for her eyes to get droopy. Minutes later she rolled onto her back, and placed the book under her bed, falling into a restful sleep.
Giles also was asleep. The medication dripping into his veins helped ease the pain, as well as guide him into slumber.
He felt Buffy in his arms. How long had he dreamed of her being there with him, holding her close? Years now, and he never thought it would come to pass. She was lying on top of him, and he could feel her breasts crushing against his chest. Her lips clung to his, her tongue delving into his mouth. He craved her taste, and plundered her mouth as she did his, their tongues mating together. His hands caressed her back, ran through her long blonde hair, down the sides of her breasts, over her round behind, pressing her down against his arousal. He moaned, and flipped her over so that she now lay beneath him, their mouths never parting.
Buffy arched up into him, and Giles could barely contain himself from letting go right then. He pulled his mouth away from hers and found the bud of her right breast, teasing and licking it. Again Buffy moaned, and cried underneath him, “Yes, Spike, Yes.”
Giles jumped, and opened his eyes. Inwardly he cursed, because no words could pass from his lips. He knew it was just a dream. A nightmare. Buffy was his now. They loved each other, and he knew she would never say another’s name in passion. But he couldn’t help the tears that fell down his cheeks.
Angel walked in the city. Peggy had told him that Bunny was not scheduled to work again until the day after tomorrow, and he couldn’t persuade her to tell him where she lived. He thought about getting Willow to break into the hospital’s computer system to find out Bunny’s address, but hadn’t yet discussed it with her. He’d do that first thing in the morning. But for now he just wanted to walk.
He found himself in front of O’Malley’s again, and wandered inside. Perhaps Bunny would be there, or Willard, the bartender, might know where he could find her. They had seemed on somewhat friendly terms.
Angel glanced around, but didn’t see Bunny anywhere. He found a stool at the bar and ordered a pint of dark beer. Willard wasn’t there either. This just didn’t seem to be Angel’s night.
Lilly checked on Giles, took his temperature, his blood pressure, and all those annoying type things that patients hate because it wakes them up while they are trying to sleep. She asked him if he wanted more medication to help him sleep, but he just nodded. He seemed a bit down. He must have it bad for the girl, Lilly thought. He can’t even go one night without her presence. “Missing your girl, aren’t you?”
He smiled, and nodded yes. “I’m sure she is missing you too. It’s obvious she’s crazy about you. Wouldn’t leave your side for a second when you were in that coma. I wasn’t supposed to even let her in here, but Angel convinced me it was the right thing for you, and I think in retrospect he was right. So you get some sleep. She’ll be here first thing in the morning.” Lilly patted him on the shoulder to reassure him.
Giles knew the nurse was right, and this time when he fell asleep, he didn’t dream, but rested comfortably.
Lilly got off shift an hour later, and was dead tired. It had been a long couple of days, and those headaches kept getting the best of her. The aspirin she had been consuming by the bottle full sure didn’t seem to be helping any either. She was afraid she’d have to see a doctor herself, and she really didn’t want to. It was true when people said that doctors and nurses made the worst patients. But she was afraid that the headaches would start to interfere with her job if she wasn’t careful. A couple of times already she had blacked out, and turned up in places she didn’t remember going to. Why, just last week she came to after a blinding migraine to find herself outside a huge office building for those hot shot lawyers downtown. Lilly didn’t remember how she had got there, or why she was there. It was disconcerting. It was scary. She told herself that tomorrow morning she would make that doctor appointment.
