Chapter 8

The Slayer, Her Vampire and Their Baby

Buffy was standing in her room naked. She was staring at her expanding belly in the mirror. Turning to look at herself sideways in the mirror she sighed. It seemed like it took forever for her to start really showing but once she did her belly had been growing at a rapid pace.

“Buffy? We’re home!” She heard Spike shout as the front door slammed.
She threw on her robe and went downstairs “So, how did school shopping go?” She asked Dawn who was busy unpacking.
“Great! You would not have been happy, waddling around the mall for four hours.” Dawn said with a giggle.
“I do not waddle!” Buffy replied.
“Yes you do luv.” Spike said with a smile. “I got something for our little one, by the way Spike said pulling out a tiny white sleeper with tiny pink bows on it
“You think it’s a girl?” Buffy questioned
“Donno luv, but if not this one maybe the next?” Spike smiled again.
“We will not be doing this again any time soon.” Buffy said with a laugh.
“Your Mum will be home from the gallery soon, I’m gonna start supper.”
“Thanks for taking me Spike.” Dawn said
“No problem Bit, Anything for Auntie.” Spike said giving her a quick peck on the cheek.
“I’m gonna go upstairs and finish unpacking my new supplies. I still have to label them and everything.” Dawn said excitedly.
“Dawn you still have a week left till school.” Buffy laughed.
“I know…I’m excited cuz we just went shopping. Once the new wears off… well it will be six days till school.” Dawn joked.

“Spike is really doing well at the gallery, he has an excellent eye for value.” Joyce told her daughters at the dinner table.
“Joyce, thank you. I don’t know what I would have done for a job if not for you. I’ve never needed one before. And I love art. What can I say…I am a man of many talents.” Spike said raising his eyebrows suggestively.

Just another routine day at the Summers house.

Buffy walked into the kitchen to get something to drink.
Wow can’t believe there’s only two weeks left till the due date… She thought to herself. All of a sudden blinding pain had her doubled over. “Oh Fuck” She said out loud. The phone started to ring. She picked up the phone. “Hello?” She said gritting her teeth through the pain.
“Buffy, are you ok? Spike just ran out of here a second ago…he said he had to go… he said you needed him, told me to call and tell you he was coming.”
“Mom I am in serious pain.” Buffy said in a strained voice “I …”
Buffy felt something warm trickling down her leg. All of a sudden there was a gush “Mom? I think my water just broke.” Buffy said
“Buffy?” Spike yelled running into the house
“In the kitchen” she yelled “…Mom, Spike is here, we’re going to the hospital.”
“Ok hon’ll ’ll meet you there.” Joyce said.

“Buffy, how are you doing?”
“In a lot of pain Doctor.” Buffy said gritting her teeth against the pain.
“Ok I’m gonna check how far dilated you are ok?”
“Yeah” Buffy replied Squeezing Spike’s hand tighter. Thank got he had supernatural strength Buffy thought or I would have crushed his hand by now.

“Ok Buffy, you are ready to start pushing.” The Doctor said.
“Next contraction I want you to push, ok?”
“Yeah…” Buffy said in a barley-controlled voice.
“You can do it luv.” Spike said excitedly. “In a little while baby will be here.”
“Ok….one is coming”
“Push Buffy”
“S’alright Pet I’ve got you” Spike said holding her up and helping her.
“Buffy the baby is crowning no pushing ok? Gotta make sure baby is in the right position.”
“ ‘kay…” Buffy said exhausted. She had been in labor for 7 hours now, and it had been intense. She was very impressed with Spike. He stayed by her side the whole time.
“Buffy, two more pushes and you’ll be all done.”
“Ok…I am ready…here comes a contraction.” Buffy pushed with all of her Slayer strength.
“Congratulations! It’s a girl.” The Doctor said as he placed the tiny infant on Buffy’s stomach.
“Oh my god Spike look at her, she’s so tiny, look at her fingers, she is so beautiful.”
“She's perfect luv, I am so proud of you. You were amazing. I thought you were strong before, baby I had no idea.” Spike said, tears unabashedly falling down his face.

“Buffy, we have to take the baby to clean her up, and check her over. We’ll bring her back soon.” The Doctor said reaching for the baby. Take our baby and she’ll be the last thing you ever touch.” Spike growled a warning deep in his throat. “I’ll carry her wherever she needs to go then bring her right back where she belongs. In Buffy’s arms.
“But… You could come with us; we are only going to the other side of the room. See the curtain there? Behind it is everything we need to take care of her.” The Doctor was startled for a second but quickly realized – so he thought – why Spike reacted the way he did. Buffy had said on her first visit to him that Spike was not supposed to be able to have children. And he was sure Spike really had no intentions of hurting him. He was just protecting his miracle daughter.
Well that much was true but the Doctor didn’t know how much of a miracle she really was.

“Oh! You guys she is the sweetest thing I ever saw. I can’t believe how tiny she is.” Dawn said excitedly.
“Have you picked out a name yet?” Willow asked.
“Not yet Red. Still workin on it.”
“Well I think Alexandria is a beautiful name if you want my two cents.” Xander said.
“Honey I just talked to the Doctor, he said you were both fine and if you still really wanted to go home today you could.” Joyce said walking into Buffy’s room.
“That would be…yeah… Mom.” Buffy said gratefully.

“We decided on a name.” Spike addressed the group assembled in Joyce’s livingroom.
“Well?” Giles asked cooing at the baby in his arms.
“Tara.” Said Spike
“Tara Alexandria Summers.” Buffy supplied her full name.
“I love it.” Joyce said.
“You hear that you pretty little thing? They’re gonna call you Tara.”
Giles said looking into the palest blue eyes he had ever seen.

Spike and Xander had Tara downstairs in the kitchen. She slept in her car seat as Spike made up a snack for Dawn. Buffy was getting ready to go on her first patrol since she’d had Tara. Her and Willow were in her room.
“So…he told you he wanted to try having a relationship with you?” Buffy asked incredulously. “You’ve only been in love with him forever Will. What did you do confess your feelings?”

“No, it wasn’t like that Buffy. Honest. Remember when Cordy broke up with him a week before graduation?”
“Yeah”
“Well I offered to go to the dance with him cause you know dateless me and all. He accepted and…

~~~~FLASHBACK~~~~

“Wow Willow you are gorgeous.” Xander said as she walked around the corner into his view. “That dress looks amazing on you. I’ve never seen you dressed up before. You look so grown up.”
Xander said trying not to stare at his best friend.

“You look pretty good yourself.” Willow replied blushing furiously

Xander leaned in to kiss her. “I ….Xander…let’s not do something you’ll regret.” Willow said “I …I’m sorry.” She whispered at his hurt expression.
“Wait a minute, you said something I would regret? The only thing I regret Willow is not realizing before how beautiful you are.”
Xander said shakily. “Will you’re my best friend. I look at you and I see all of the things we did together, yellow crayons, scraped knees, lunches together for 12 years. How can I look at all that and not have seen what you are? What a fool I was.”
“WHAT?” Willow yelled. The shock evident in her voice.
“Willow I….would you…would you consider being …more than friends?” Xander asked shyly.
“Xander, Why? Why now? Is it because of Cordy?” Willow asked.
“What do you mean?” He questioned.
“Well she did just break up with you…” willow trailed off.
“You think this is a rebound thing?” He asked skeptically
“Uh…yeah, you and Cordy…you were together for quite awhile…”
“Yeah Willow but not as long as you and I have been. Remember the we hate Cordilia club? I really think this could…be something….don’t you want to find out? Xander asked quietly.
More than you’ll ever know Xander. She thought to herself.
“Well we could…take things really slow…to be sure that …well that this is what we both want.” Willow stammered aloud.
“I’ll take it. At this point I will take any little crumb you offer.” Xander said stepping closer and leaning down to kiss her. Willow closed her eyes and enjoyed the kiss she’d always dreamed about with Xander. “Wow Willow you are an amazing kisser. Xander said.
Willow almost glowed red at the compliment.


“So we went to the dance and…the rest they say is history.” Willow finished.
“And you didn’t think this was important enough to tell me Willow? You have been in love with Xander since the first day of kindergarten. It’s important!” Buffy stated.
“Well you had stuff…going on. Really important life changing stuff.” Willow shrugged
“Yeah I did but Willow you are important to me so is Xander. You should have told me.”
“I…I’m sorry Buffy. Please don’t be mad. It really wasn’t like it was a secret or anything. I ….”
“It’s ok Will, I’m over it.”

~~IN THE KITCHEN~~

“Spike remember what you said? About how much you love Buffy?”
Xander questioned.
“Yeah?” spike asked.
“Well I think I am feeling that way about someone…”
“Red?” Spike asked.
“How did you know? We haven’t told anyone yet…not even each other.” Xander asked surprised.
“Vampire remember? Ir? I can smell ‘er all over you.”
“You can?” Xander asked sniffing slightly

“This is my first patrol…you’d think there’d be at least one vamp to welcome me back…” Buffy whined.
“I’ll welcome you back luv.” Spike said huskily as he pulled Buffy in for a kiss.
“MMM Spike” Buffy sighed into his mouth.
Buffy sensed something and broke the kiss. She noticed a vamp clawing it’s way out of a fresh grave. She pulled Mr. Pointy out of her sleeve and dusted the newly risen vamp without a punch or kick thrown.
“Well talk about a tease. He didn’t even fight.”
“I’ll give you a tease luv.” Spike remarked as he extended his fangs and ran them over her bare shoulder purring all the while.
God he drives me wild Buffy thought pushing him to the ground and rubbing herself on his jean clad cock.

They were interrupted by sounds of fighting near by.
Buffy groaned as she removed herself from Spike and started off towards the sound. They came to a little clearing and there was Kendra and Robin laying the boot to six vamps.

Buffy saw there was no need for intervention. They fought as though they shared all of their thoughts fluidly, effortlessly. Wow she thought, that’s probably what Spike and I look like when we fight. She thought to herself. No wonder we haven’t seen any vamps lately.

Suddenly all of their opponents were dust, Robin and Kendra ended the fight facing each other about five feet apart. They obviously hadn’t seen Buffy and Spike yet, by the way they were staring at each other. All of a sudden Robin went vamp face. Kendra slowly took a step closer. “Does it hurt? To do dat I mean?” Kendra asked. “Not at all, Just like putting on a shirt. Or pants or…”
“Taken ‘em off?” Kendra asked. She tentatively reached her hand up to his face. “Do you mind? Can I …”
“Touch? My face? My Fangy face?” Robin questioned. “Yeah, Sure…”he trailed off as felt her fingertips brush gently against his forehead; he couldn’t help it he started purring. That got Kendra laughing and broke the seriousness of what they were doing into merely curiosity on Kendra’s part because she had never been this close to someone before, especially a male someone unless she was kicking it’s ass.

“Thanks for watchin’ ‘er Xander, Red.” Spike acknowledging his babysitters for the night.
“No problem Spike. Anytime man. Anytime.” Xander said passing Tara to her daddy.”
“Night Guys.” “
Night Buffy, Spike.” Willow and Xander said in unison.

“Did Xander tell you that him and Willow…”
“Were an item?” Spike questioned
“You knew?”
“I just found out tonight actually.” Spike said laughing at the expression of outrage on her gorgeous face “Whelp told me when I was in the kitchen with him.”
“Yeah Willow told me in my room while I was getting ready.” Buffy said smiling.
“I told her it was about time. Did you know she’s been in love with him since Kindergarten?” Buffy asked.
