They drove in silence for a while, the events of the last few days rolling around in Willow’s mind. Who ever they were going to see seems to have made quite an impression on everyone she had met. The little creature, Jarvis, seemed to really like her, who ever she was. Maybe this woman could give her the answers she was looking for.
“Spike?”
“Yeah Red?”
“What did you mean when you told Jarvis ‘after everything you had done for him and his people’? What exactly did you do?”
“Oh Jarvis? He’s a Cluckolo demon.”
“Not sure what that means.”
“The Cluckoloans are a peaceful bunch. Just like to make a living and wot not. Well about 50 years or so ago Dru and me was passin’ through and saw a fight. Being as we were well us we had a stop see. Turns out it was a Cluckoloan clan and a Gorgofic tribe. The Gorgofics are nasty little buggers. Attack anything they come across for fun they do. Anyway when Dru and me came up to the battle the Cluckoloans were losing. The Gorgofics were literally eating them alive and wot not. So Dru and me decided to have some fun, we started fighting with the Cluckoloans, killing most of the Gorgofics off before they retreated. See the Cluckoloans don’t have weapons, don’t need em. So Dru and me we did most of the killing, lot of fun it was. Well the Cluckoloans vowed themselves to us, funny little ritual. So whatever we need if a Cluckoloan owns it is ours for free or some rot. Some of the newer Cluckoloans need some reminding but we are passed down generation to generation. Pretty sweet deal.”
“So just out of the goodness of your unbeating heart you helped them?
“Well no. Dru said the stars told her we needed to.”
“Oh.”
“Quid pro quo.”
“Huh?”
“My turn to ask a question.”
“Ok”
“What made you turn coat? Swing pink and all?”
“Oh…um ok that’s easy it was Tara.”
“Just like that?”
“Well sort of. See Oz has just left and well not just but he had left and I went to this Wiccan group at school and all they wanted to do was bake cookies. Now don’t get me wrong I love making cookies but not at a Wiccan group. Anyway I met Tara there and we started to hang out and practice together and we did a really big spell and she was my anchor to hold me to this world and well it was like this connection on a whole other level you know?”
“Yeah I hear that.”
“Sometimes I just wonder. Do I have to only want girls now or is it ok to want both. I mean girls are nice and soft and gentle but they are lacking something.”
“A penis?”
“That and other things. Just like guys are hard and strong and safe they are lacking something. Maybe I just need a dude in the middle of a sex change.”
Spike let out a rich laugh, “Or maybe you need to find someone that has all of the qualities. Someone who can be soft, gentle, nice, rough, hard, strong, and safe. Willow you are a strong and powerful witch you need someone that can keep up with that and still appeal to your human college girl side. Trust me I’ve been around for a few years.”
Spike gave her a wink. He then lit a cigarette and rolled down his window. Spike reached over and turned the music up putting them back in a comfortable silence. He let his head bob to the music as they drove through the abandoned roads of the Nevada desert. Without a word he pulled the Desoto off the road and stopped the car.
“Get out.”
“What?”
Spike chuckled, “I want to show you something.”
Willow looked at him then got of out the car. She leaned against the black paint feeling a little annoyed and curious all at the same time. She waited as Spike shut off the car and the lights effectively leaving them in darkness.
She jumped when his cold fingers brushed against her hand. Instinctively she held on to him, allowing him to guide her into the night. They walked in silence for a few feet when he stopped. She felt his arms go around her waist and his firm chest press against her back.
“How countlessly they congregate
O'er our tumultuous snow,
Which flows in shapes as tall as trees
When wintry winds do blow!--
As if with keeness for our fate,
Our faltering few steps on
To white rest, and a place of rest
Invisible at dawn,--
And yet with neither love nor hate,
Those starts like some snow-white
Minerva's snow-white marble eyes
Without the gift of sight.” He whispered into her ear causing her to look up at the sky.
Her breath hitched in her throat when she saw the endless diamond sky. The stars she could see in Sunnydale did not even come close to this. The sky appeared to be alive with lights. She watched in wonder as a star shot across the sky. She turned wide eyed to Spike. He smirked at her and led her back to the car.
