Catch you on the flipside

Willow grumpily walked to the front door…the front door that was being pounded on. Rubbing her eyes she looked over at Jaeger who had passed out on her couch after one to many hours of reading old texts with Dawn.



Stifling a yawn Willow opened the door and leapt back shrieking and was about to magically propel the day walker off her porch when she realized what was wrong with this picture…for one if was a day walkers HEAD and it was being held by a now laughing Kennedy.



Her ex was bent over at the waist laughing so hard she was almost coughing. Willow crossed her arms and glared down at the slayer. “Is there a reason you’re at my door at midnight with…that?” Turing when she heard Vikki come running out hatchet in tow.



“Sorry…I had to…well he was alive but we had a…problem on the way back. And Kelly and I need stitched up and well he’s still…fresh so wasn’t sure if you and doc couldn’t do your thing and figure out some shit bout em” Kennedy said as she motioned for Miranda to pull the rest of the day walker onto the porch, its body landed with a thud.



Willow looked down with mild disgust, its leg was broken and it was missing the lower half of its left arm. She was about to ask where it was when it landed with a thump next to the corpse.



Looking up she saw one of the girls holding Kelly up, the girl had a stomach wound by the looks of it. Turning back to Vikki, “Take care of her will you?”



Vikki nodded and glared at Kennedy as she passed her; there was no love lost between the two slayers for the simple fact that Kennedy still loved ribbing her about Willow whenever she could.



“Come on in…you can put it in t he examining room.” Kennedy nodded and hoisted the day walker’s body over her shoulder and carried it to the examining room.



The room had been installed after Giles had been infected, it was set apart from the school and made it easy to contain if there ever was another infected human on the property.



The room was a simple white washed, sterile with a single metal slab in the center. It looked more like an autopsy room to Kennedy.



Walking in she saw the computer was turned on still, and mutated organs from other day walkers they had captured were sitting in formaldehyde filled jars. Grimacing in disgust she laid the body down and waited for Vikki or Willow to come back here, looking up when Miranda walked in with the arm.



“You forgot this” She said quietly. Looking behind her she quickly leaned in and kissed Kennedy. “Your place tonight?”



Kennedy smiled and nodded, watching as the slayer turned and left the room. Looking down she frowned at the damage they had done when the creature had woken up half a mile from home, true the monster was stronger than a slayer…but six? No way in hell.



Thinking back she found herself contemplating the tenuous affair she and Miranda had going on. It was a big no no because even if the world had gone to shit Buffy still insisted on no fraternization between slayer instructors and students…and Miranda was still a student. So she and the attractive younger woman had been secretly sleeping together for a month or so. It was going fine and would stay that way as long as no one found out.



Sighing she rolled her eyes when Willow FINALLY came in, followed closely by her partner.



“Well let’s have a look.” Willow said as Vikki pulled on plastic gloves and handed some to Willow and Kennedy.



Stepping back she watched as Vikki pulled out a bone saw and spreaders, her stomach threatening to recoil at the smell alone. Watching as the creature’s chest was cut and spread open the doctor leaned down and murmured something to Willow who nodded.



“What is it?” Kennedy asked, forcing herself for step over to the monster. Looking down she grimaced.



“It hasn’t been infected for very long, see…the infections only spread to its lungs and liver.” Kennedy nodded studying the black goo that had grown over the organs.



“Is it any good?” Kennedy asked, if it wasn’t going to tell them anything new she wanted to take it to the furnace sooner rather than alter.



“Yes…the others were fully changed…this one might show us something new.” Will said without looking up from the heart she was poking.



“Just like the others, new muscle tissue has formed in its frame, giving it increased strength and speed…the virus turned its spinal cord to be more cartilage than bone…so it’s more flexible.”



Kennedy gagged when the broken limb of the corpse twitched and Vikki picked up the spreaders and smack it without a thought. This is soooo disgusting.



Pulling back the eyelids Vikki nodded again. “Its blind just like the others. Safe to say if they see at all its body heat or they move mainly by smell and movement.” Willow nodded and added that to there medical journal.



“Fingers look like they were entering third stage, see how they were bonding together to make three individual fingers?” Vikki said holding up the severed limb for Willow and Kennedy to see.



“That’s odd…”Willow said, leaning down she pulled out a long slimy string of the black infected blood. “Its coagulating…this wasn’t like the others.”



Frowning Vikki stepped back and walked to the computer, pulling up past entries on what they had found in Day Walkers before…horror filled her with what could be happening. Turning back she walked over to the corpse and shifted the organs around…



“It’s evolving.” Vikki said, feeling sick at the notion. Thoughtlessly severing the heart, she stepped back when black blood spurted from the arteries, turning she smiled when Kennedy suddenly turned and was retching in the sink.



“You know there are bathrooms for that.”



“Fuck off doc.” Kennedy said, rinsing her mouth. “What do you mean its evolving?”



“No it makes sense…remember when this first started happening people were just dropping dead then after awhile…they started turning into these things. And Giles…” Willow frowned at the memory of what had happened to the man that had been more of a father to them than there own…



“Well…you know me give me something to kill and im straight…just what its evolving into?”



“We won’t know that unless we can figure out where it came from. Virus’s don’t just show up…something causes them.”



“Wait…if it hasn’t been infected long…does that mean there are other humans out there?” Kennedy asked, looking between the two confused. “Cause as far as we know the only ones out there are demons and whatnot and the juvies” Kennedy said…”And the juvies are rogue slayers so…where’d this one come from?”



“I don’t know Kennedy. Well look into that let me clean and patch you up and Willow and I will keep looking him over.” Vikki said, already pulling off her gloves so she could clean Kennedys wound.



Kennedy nodded and sat down in the chair that was off to the wall. “Is Kelly alright?”



“Yeah shell be fine. Just nothing major for her for the week just to be safe.” Vikki said quietly, as she cleaned and sterilized the bite on Kennedy’s neck.



“Well…you two have fun with your lab rat. Im going home to shower and go to bed.” Kennedy said passing the slayer and witch she walked out and paused by the couch. Seeing Jaeger awake and reading a book.



“What’re you doing over here kiddo?”



“Mama and Mommy were being loud again so me and Axel decided to sleep at friends houses.” Jaeger said honestly, Kennedy smiled and bid her goodnight before walking out the house and returning to her own.
