Chapter 8 : My body crumbles
(Bif Naked – Lucky)
“Don't...be afraid to lead them. ”Buffy's face was wet with tears. “Whether you wanted it or not, their lives are yours. It's only gonna get harder. Protect them, but lead them.” She said looking straight into Faith’s eyes. They heard shouts from the other side of the door, Buffy turned around and began to walk away. The Rogue Slayer was staring at her in disbelief. Last night, she had gone to the blond girl’s bedroom to have this talk she had been thinking of for years since Buffy had entered her life. She had knocked several times on the door, called her name, but Buffy never opened it. And now, watching her walk away, Faith realized that the Buffy Summers she had known four years ago was not there anymore.
“Buffy!” The Rogue Slayer heard a scream next to her. For a sec, she thought it was her who had screamed because all her being was ordering her to. No ...It was Shannah. The young brunette ran towards Buffy.
“You can’t leave. We all need you. Even those bastards in here who are more blind than Bringers.”
“I made this choice. Faith is also a Slayer, that mean you have to protect HER.” Buffy answered in a stern tone. Shannah stared at her several seconds and chuckled which made the blond girl raise her eyebrows.
“Buffy, do you really think I don’t know what you’re doing?” Buffy remained speechless. “You know...Faith, you and I, we’re all the same. Fucking scared girls whose lives have been wasted by assholes. We’ve been through hard stuff, and we’ll probably die during this constant fight...What you’re doing, I did it already, and so Faith did. Shutting yourself away from everyone and everything, feeling like a martyr...You’re so convince that everyone around you will suffer one day or another from what you are that you prefer staying alone, hiding your emotions, pretending you’re just a rock.”
‘I killed those girls...it’s my fault’ The Slayer was thinking, and she started to cry.
“Look” Shannah’s tone softened. “You’re not a rock. You’re a wonderful woman, you have friends, a family...you’re luckier than Faith and I. And I swear, you wouldn’t want to know what it’s like to be alone all the time.”
“They don’t want me anymore.” Buffy muttered bitterly.
“Of course they do. They’re just afraid to die, afraid of this damn war. I didn’t hear your quarrel...but I guess their opinion is that you’re too severe and distant?” The young girl asked.
“Among other things...”
“You did it because the loss of only one of those girls would hurt you very much, didn’t you?”
Buffy didn’t answer.
“I’ll take that as a yes. Listen...If we lose you, we not only lose our only chance to survive, but also a friend, a sister and a love- uh...lovable cooker!” Buffy looked at Shannah, confused. “You’re Buffy Summers before being Buffy the Vampire Slayer. And the one Faith, the others and I need is Buffy Summers for now. Funny, teasing, cereal stealer, smiling Buffy Summers.”
“In case you didn’t notice, several girls died because of me, and we’re in the middle of a war!” Buffy said.
“We’re gonna lose it without you. And we’ll all die...The prophecy says that what comes after the Great Battle is the complete triumph of one of the two sides. That means: choice one, apocalypse, or choice two, a world where you won’t have to fight anymore. One more battle Buffy, only one more and the life you’ve always wanted to live will be yours! Please!” Shannah took the Slayer’s hands in hers and locked her eyes with her. Tears were running down the blonde girl’s cheeks, and suddenly she broke down into Shannah’s arms. The Phoenix looked at Faith who was still standing several meters away. Thanks to her slayer hearing, the Rogue Slayer had heard the whole conversation, including Shannah’s slip of the tongue about the lover part. Her friend knew, she didn’t figure out how, but Shannah knew Faith was in love with Buffy. The young girl motioned to her to come. Without any hesitation, Faith walked to them. Shannah pulled away from Buffy’s embrace and was soon replaced by Faith.
“I need you so much...” The Rogue Slayer whispered softly in the blond girl’s ear. Shannah noticed Buffy tightening her grip on the taller girl. The Phoenix decided that they needed some privacy and went back inside. She knew that they would finally make their way back home. Everybody was still arguing in the living room, she stepped in and they all stopped to look at her. And suddenly the lights went out.

“Everybody calms down!” Shannah shouted. The potentials were panicking seriously. Giles was the more intelligent one and took a flashlight.
“Is it just our house?” Rona asked.
“Looks like... the streetlights are still working outside...” Xander glanced by the window. Shannah drew out her claws.
“Okay, get weapons! Be ready for the attack!” she commended. “Wait! Is everybody here?” the Phoenix asked. Then, a thought came to her mind, and she rushed upstairs. When she opened the bedroom, there was nobody inside.
“Kennedy...” the dark brunette whispered. The light came back and she froze at the sight of a knife stuck into the girl’s pillow. There was a message with it.
“Zane what did you do...”
Meanwhile, Buffy and Faith had finally come back from outside. The Slayer didn’t talk, it was Faith who asked where was Shannah. They all went upstairs and found the girl standing in the middle of the room, motionless.
“What’s going on? What happened with the lights?” Buffy asked, in full slayer mode.
“I have to go!” Shannah simply said, trying to make her way through the potentials who had invaded the room.
“Wait!” Buffy shouted. “Can you tell me what the fuck is going on?”
“What’s this?” Faith asked, holding a piece of paper. “So she’s your favorite one. Be at Spencer’s Rocks in thirty minutes, or next time you’ll see her, she’ll be a cold body. See you soon, little sis. Little sis?” The Rogue Slayer was stunned.
“You didn’t say you had a brother!” Buffy said in a harsh tone.
“Yes I did! But I swear I didn’t know he was still alive. I have to go or he’ll kill Kennedy.” Shannah’s voice was shaking with anger and anxiety, she pushed away every person standing on her way and left the house running as if there was no tomorrow.
“Faith, Spike, you come with me! The others, take your cars and follow us, nobody stays here.” Buffy ordered, and to her surprise, they did what they were told. The Chosen Two and the vampire ran as fast as they can, knowing that they’d take twice more time to reach Spencer’s Hills than Shannah.

Hey it's me again, I hope you like the story, I've been writing it since 2 years now..It's the first fic I wrote ever! So if it's terribly lame, let me know.
