“But what do vampires do on a date?” Buffy shrugged her answer to Xanders question.
"Angel and I have never found time for a real date, sacred calling and all that"
Willow giggled. “I bet there is lots of necking”
Buffy reached over and took the chocolate out of Willows hands “That’s enough sugar for you I think”
Xander laughed and Buffy smiled at the sound. She hadn’t realized that Xander had stopped laughing but it was true. Today was the first time in such a long time that Xander had laughed and meant it. Funny how she never realized how much she was missing it till now. What does it matter what the crazy vampire wants to do on the date if it makes Xander laugh like that again.

“Spike are you sure about this? I will support you no matter what the decision but you must admit it isn’t like you to care this much about what happens to a human. Is he to be your Childe?” Cruz tiled his head. Ever since he caught that whispered promise he had been dying to ask Spike about his intentions. Finally they had a free moment and he couldn’t resist.
“No.” Spike brushed a hand across his face.
Cruz said nothing, just waited knowing there was more to come.
“If I turn him he won’t be warm any longer”
“We all lost our warmth when we were embraced Spike.”
“No. Not like Xander. He’s warm physically of course but that’s not what I mean. If I made him my childe he wouldn’t have that warmth that is just Xander. It’s too late Cruz. I don’t want any other or him any other way. I’m under his spell.” Spike’s lip curled up and he slid out of his chair and went to get ready. It was almost time to pick up Xander after all and he didn't want to be late.

Cruz sat at the table for a few minutes longer before deciding to work on the problem of the mayor again letting Spike and Alexander have this one night to themselves he had a feeling that there was big trouble coming and slow night like these would be a thing of the past.

The Bronze was crowded, after all it wasn’t as if there was any where else to be in Sunnydale after dark. Spike nodded to a few ‘non’ humans blending into the crowd Xander firmly at his side. His arm loosely across shoulders keeping him near not that he needed too. Xander had burrowed into his side during the walk and was in no hurry to move.

Xander couldn’t remember a time when he was more nervous and more comfortable at the same time, the conflicting emotions clashing within him. Fear of others finding out, insecurity over what would happen when he confronted his classmates and contentment and comfort at being the focus of Spikes attention. His hand coming up to brush against the hickey Spike had left on his neck. He’d been so swept up in the pleasure of the kiss that Spike had greeted him with that the fact that a vampire was suckling his neck had not made it through. Now he was kind of glad. Spike had been extremely pleased that Xander had accepted his mark (even if it wasn’t permanent) and stopped to thank him several times on the short walk to the Bronze.

Once inside the familiar darkness of the club Spike pulled him out onto the dance floor and now Xander balked a little. Spike rested their foreheads together knowing what was going through his head from the worry shining in his expressive chocolate eyes.
“Forget them pet” Xander shivered as Spike purred the words into his ear before catching the lobe between his teeth and nipping it gently. It had surprised Xander just how much that name affected him. All Spike had to do was say it and he felt stirrings of arousal and was putty in his hands, unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you looked at it) Spike knew it.
“Dance with me”
As Spike settled him into the rhythm of the song he couldn’t help but appreciate the liquid sex that is Spike. Every move had him mesmerized and his hands reached out to touch and were welcomed. Spike had no problems with making a bit of a scene on the dance floor, vampires like to be the center of attention and Spike more than most. Xander felt even more ungainly next to Spike but the more they moved together the more he settled.
“That’s it luv let go I’ve got you”
Xander laughed “I’ve never danced like this before; I think your rubbing off on me Spike!”
Spike answered with a chuckle “Not yet Pet, but that can certainly be arranged!”

He was hot and sweaty from more than just the dancing by the time the latest song finished and Xander definitely needed a break. They moved over to the side by the stairs Spike disappearing off to the bar to get them drinks. He waited, resisting the urge to check where Spike was every few seconds, and for a minute wished he hadn’t asked the girls to skip the Bronze tonight, he felt all to exposed here by himself. A new song started and Xander leaned forward a little looking like he was just enjoying the music but Xander hadn’t lived on the hell mouth all these years without picking up a thing or two. And he sensed something coming. He turned towards it and ended up face to face with Cordelia.

She had pure ice in her gaze, her eyes completely cold. “So is it true? Harmony says she saw you dancing with a guy, she said you two looked pretty damn cosy”
She steeled her self as he nodded, unsure as to why she even cared any more. She had made it clear that he could drop off the face of the earth for all she cared. The people near by turning to watch events unfold.
Her eyes settled on the bright hickey showing out above the collar of his shirt.
“That is so like you!” Cordelia got right into his face. “Anya goes all veiny good fairy grants my wish and you just up and change teams. Christ Harris” His name was spat like it was truly vile “Where did you dig him up? He must be desperate to go with you” She smirked, and Xander felt himself go cold, it was nothing like Spikes smirks that made him want to kiss the expression from his face

“And you were probably felling pretty desperate yourself once you realized that my wish, curse, whatever means you will never feel the touch of a woman again. I'll bet you snapped up the first guy to look at you”

“So that’s it, is it pet?” From behind him he heard the voice he’d been longing for since before Cordelia appeared, only the tone sent the wrong kind of shivers through him now. “Couldn’t have girls anymore so old Spike will have to do?”
Xander stood frozen, still reeling from the fact that Coredelia had cursed him. Spike took his silence to be an admission of guilt.
“I was just handy then pet” Now the name was not cute at all. Now it sounded raw and painful and totally scary. The crowd shifted closer. Not wanting to miss a second of the action. He stepped back without thinking feeling closed in and suffocating under the weight of everyone’s stares. Xander swayed gently on his feet and Spike grabbed his shirt jerking him towards him again, eyes flashing from gold to blue as emotions surged through him hissing words to him alone.
“I’ve half a mind to turn you then I could take my time paying you back for this. Only if you are this cruel as a human I’d hate to see you as a vampire, and no way in hell do I want to spend another minute with you let alone eternity”
And with that he shoved him away like he was dirty and he couldn’t stand to touch him. One last sneer and Spike turned and swept from the Bronze a swirl of dark leather and a soft snarl.

Xander stayed staring at the floor as the crowd dispersed sensing the entertainment of the night was over. Cordelia smiled smugly. Pleased to see Xander hurting like he’d hurt her.

Until he raised his head.

One look into eyes that had never lost the laughter of childhood looking so blank and her heart stopped. She felt sick looking at him, he looked so lost and confused that she reached out without thought. He recoiled slamming into a pillar in his haste to move away like he was afraid her touch would burn him. He took three heaving breaths before he turned, pushed his way through the club and disappeared into the night leaving her wondering for the first time if he had really deserved this. She returned to her friends who crowed at Xander’s misfortune and speculated at his total disgrace being all over the school by morning and although she joined in she was haunted by seeing him so broken.

Xander ran. Not to, or from, just ran. He saw nothing around him just dodging obstacles in his path moving as fast as he could. Scooby training had meant he could run for longer than he could before, but now his body was trembling and his foot slipped and he went down hard. He crawled across the grass he’d fallen upon and sat in the middle of the park with his back against a tree shaking.

Then the tears came.

So wrapped up in his misery he didn’t hear her approach but relaxed despite himself as she gathered him into her arms. Still sobbing as she cooed at him.

“Such pretty tears Kitten. Come let mummy make it all better”
