Chapter 7: With this ring

“Is everything ok?” Buffy asked pacing around her tent.

“Everything is fine Buffy. The minister is getting ready, the guests are all here. Faith is ready, just have a wonderful day.” Dawn tried to calm her sister.

“What if I forget my vows?”

“You’ve practiced them a million times.”

“How’s my dress?”

“Buffy it’s perfect.”

“What if I trip? What if I fall? What if there are vampires?!”

“It’s 2:00 in the afternoon.”

“Ok…right…sunlight…Dawn I’m so scared.” Buffy looked in the mirror again.

“Buffy it’s going to be perfect.”

“Cordy I think I need another bobby pin.” Faith pointed to her hair.

“Hey I did the ‘do it’s perfection.”

“Who’s the bride? Bobby pin me.” The brunette ordered.

“Alright, alright.” Cordelia slid yet another bobby pin into the already perfect style.

“Everything is ready Faith. I think we’re about to start.” Angel smiled entering the tent.

“Ok. How is B?”

“Nervous.” Angel adjusted his tux.

“Are the men all ready?”

“I had a hard time getting Gunn into a tux, but yeah they’re all ready. I cant believe you guys found Oz.”

“It was Buffy. I don’t know how he tracked him down. I guess he was in New York, he came right to Sunnydale. I thought maybe it would be hard for Red but she has Kennedy now so I guess it doesn’t matter.” She stopped when she heard the start of the music. “I guess it’s about time to get this thing started.”

“That’s my cue.” Cordelia hurried out of the tent followed by Faith and Angel. Faith watched the couples walk down the isle Dawn and Oz, Willow and Gunn, Cordy and Wesley and finally Anya and Xander. Buffy had done a good job on the bridesmaid’s dresses. They were burgundy with rhinestones covering them with designs.

Faith had a sharp intake of breath as she seen Buffy. Her dress had a lace top with thin lace straps the train must have been seven feet long with intricate lace designs and beadwork. Her hair was long with a soft, thin veil with floral bordering. It reached her shoes. She was stunning.

“Are you ready to give me away Giles?” Buffy held a smile like the watcher had never seen.

“I don’t suppose I have a choice.” He whispered as they started down the isle. Buffy looked around at their 80 guests, most of them her family. She averted her father’s eyes and concentrated on her grinning surrogate family ahead of her. They were all so beautiful.


She felt Giles kiss her cheek as he placed her at the end of the isle. She turned just in time to see her bride to be beginning her walk with Angel. She was more radiant then Buffy could have imagined. Her dress was pure shiny satin. It had a full bottom and small train. Faith’s hair was a tower of curls on top of her head held in place by a pearl tiara. Her veil was several layers of see through fabric that went to her finger tips. She was glowing.

“I guess it’s our turn fangs.” He took the beautiful slayer’s arm, feeling more proud than any big brother ever had before.

“Are you ready?”

“…as ever.” Faith didn’t see any of her family in the crowd, no, they were all in front of her and beside her. Angel squeezed her hand and left her facing Buffy.

“Who gives Buffy Summers to Faith Spencer?” The minister asked.

“I do. Her guardian.” Giles spoke.

“And who gives Faith Spencer to Buffy Summers?”

“I do. Her brother.” Faith thought she could hear Angel’s words get caught in his throat.

“We are gathered here today to join Buffy and Faith in a life long commitment of love and partnership. There is no greater gift in the world than love. It is to be cherished and celebrated. The couple has chosen to write their own vows. Buffy would you like to begin?” Buffy took Faith’s hands.

“Faith I have struggled over what to say today and I realized it was all so simple. I love you. I have always loved you. I know we have had our trials and I know you’ve had trials of your own but you are so strong and I want to live in that strength. I want to wake up to you for the rest of my life. I want to see you in good times and in bad. I promise to stand by you in whatever life throws our way. I promise to love you and cherish you. I promise to be your partner, friend, and wife. I love you Faith.”

Faith stared into Buffy’s eyes. “Buffy when I met you I seen everything I wanted to be. I seen everything that I loved. I loved you. I know I’ve messed up and I know that I am blessed with a second chance. You make me want to be a better person. I have a purpose now. I want to grow old with you. I want to take care of you and love you. Buffy I will follow you wherever you may go and I will love and support you. You showed me the way and I know how good it can be, because you love me. I would love to be your wife.”

“Buffy do you take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife to have and to hold through sickness and health till death do you part?”

“I do.”

“Faith would you place the ring on Buffy’s finger?” Faith slid a gold band on her lover’s finger. “Faith do you take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife to have and to hold through sickness and health till death do you part?”

“I do.”

“Buffy would you place the ring on Faith finger.” Buffy’s shaky hand placed the band next to Faith’s engagement ring.

“By the power invested in me by the state of California I know pronounce you wife and wife. You may kiss the bride.” Buffy swept Faith up into a deep kiss. A roar of applause erupted from the audience.

“May I be the first to announce Mrs. And Mrs. Summers?” The minister smiled at the women. Hand in hand they walked back down the isle.

“You’re married!” Dawn and Willow crushed Buffy and Faith in a hug.

“I guess we’re all grown up.” Buffy seated herself at the head table of the reception. She kissed her wife again. “We’re married Mrs. Summers” She whispered in Faith ear.

“Fucking right we are how long is this thing supposed to last?” Faith let her hand wander up Buffy’s thigh.

“Four hours and then we have a four hour flight to the hotel.”

“Christ.”

“I know.” They heard the chime of a wine glass.

“Before we start the meal I’d like to give a toast.” Xander stood. “I’ve known Buffy for a long time and one thing I know is this is the happiest she has ever been. All of that is because of Faith. I couldn’t think of a better-suited couple. I love you both and wish you all the best.” Willow took the microphone.

“I’m the best friend. Faith I know we’ve had our differences but I want to tell you that I was wrong. You are perfect for Buffy. I can see the love each time I look at you. I know that you two have many wonderful years together and I hope you know that all of us are going to be there to see them.” She handed it to Dawn.

“Buffy you drive me crazy but I owe you. You steeped right up and took over for mom. You deserve this. You deserve to be happy. Faith I always knew that you would be perfect for Buffy and I am so glad that I finally get to call you my sister.” The microphone went to Oz.

“Well, I’ll keep this short you both know how I can ramble. Good luck. If you need me I’m around.” Anya stood.

“My turn. I remember when this was me. I wish it was again. I hope you enjoy your very expensive honeymoon from all of us and have many orgasms.” Angel snatched the mic away from her.

“Um….Ok…Faith and Buffy where can I start? I didn’t see this coming but I’m glad it did. You are what each other needed. You’re soul mates and that isn’t easy to find. Faith congratulations. It makes me proud to see what you’ve become. I love you both.” Giles was last.

“My girls are all grown up. Buffy and Faith are like daughters to me. I’ve watched them grow as I have all of these fine young adults. I love you all and every signal one of you has made me proud. You are the best children I father could ask for. And with that let’s eat.”

The meal was finished and Faith and Buffy were mingling with their guests.

“Buffy…” The blonde turned around to see her father.

“Dad I didn’t think you would come. I heard you were in Paris.”

“I was. I got the invitation and I thought it was a misprint but here you are…married to a woman.”

“Yeah…” Buffy clasped Faith’s hand.

“I just…Buffy I thought we raised you better than that.” Buffy’s eyes narrowed and Faith’s muscles tensed.

“You didn’t, mom did.”

“What would your mother think?”

“She’d be happy for me.”

“What about Dawn? Buffy this isn’t healthy.”

“Dad…”

“That’s enough.” Faith stopped them.

“Mr. Summers you are not going to ruin her day. I don’t think that this is the time to start worrying about Dawn. You’ve done a good job being absent the past few years. I think it would be a good trend to keep up.” Faith stepped closer to the man.

“I think it would be in your best interest to leave.”

“You wont tell me…”

“Is there a problem here?” Giles eased Faith out of a fighting stance.

“Yeah B’s ‘father’ brought his homophobic bullshit to our wedding reception.”

“I heard. Mr. Summers may I remind you that this si a private gathering of which you may be thrown out?”

“It’s my daughter.”

“No..” Giles stated simply.

“She’s mine.”

“Buffy?” Her father looked to his daughter.

“He’s right. You should go. My wife and I have our first dance.” Buffy took Faith hand and led her to the dance floor.

“Are you ok?” Faith asked as the music began.

“Yes.” Buffy smiled. “I have my wife and my family. It’s time to dance.”

“The happy couple has requested a song for their first dance.” The DJ announced. “So here we go.”

Every one marveled at the two woman dancing in front of them. Those who knew them best knew that the song was perfect. They held each other so tightly, like they were afraid to let go.

Buffy was crying. “I love you.” She stated softly to her wife. “I love you so much.”

“I know.” Faith led her off of the dance floor.

“Faith that was beautiful.” Willow hugged her new friend. “I’m going to take Ken out for a spin.

“About damn time.” Kennedy drug her girlfriend to the loud music.

“I don’t think we’re done dancing.” Buffy followed the two girls with Faith.

Giles watched as all of his children gyrated to the god awful fast paced music. He couldn’t have been happier. The LA and Sunnydale crews were all together again, without a care in the world, no demons, no apocalypse to stop, for once all of them, including Angel, got to be young.

Buffy and Faith had said their god byes to their friends and flown to Hawaii. The gang had paid for a suit for a week. They tumbled through the door.

“Clothes off now.” Buffy began tugging at her clothes. They had each other stripped in seconds. Faith laid her gently.

“Slowly.” Faith ordered. She lowered her lips to Buffy’s. Buffy opened her mouth slipping her tongue around Faith’s. The kiss conveyed everything they felt. Faith had been waiting for this since her test had come back negative.

Their lips teased each other. Faith moved down to Buffy’s neck licking her pulse point.
