The next morning Buffy awoke to find Kennedy’s arms wrapped around her. She remembered their night and realized that she really did like her. Could definitely see herself falling for her. “Perhaps I am already.” Buffy says to herself as Kennedy wakes up. “What was that?” “Just talking to myself. Thinking I could really get used to this.” “Me too. Buffy you want to go out on like a proper date?” “That depends, are you ready for the looks of confusion on the gangs faces?” “You’re gonna tell them?” “Yeah. Unless you don’t want me to.” “No, I want them to know.” They smile at each other and Kennedy moves in to kiss Buffy. “I missed this. Waking up with someone you love or um are really interested in…” Kennedy stops Buffy’s babbling with a kiss. “I know what you mean. Come on let’s get up and face the stares.”
The two of them had showers and got dressed and went down stairs holding each other’s hand. Once they reached the kitchen they let go. Willow was looking at Kennedy expectantly but Kennedy ignored her waiting for Buffy to do the talking. Willow, Dawn, Anya and Xander were in the kitchen eating breakfast and only Willow had noticed them. “Hey guys, I need to talk to you.” Four heads looked up at Buffy. “Um. Last night…” Buffy looked to Kennedy who gave her a reassuring smile. A smile that was not lost on Willow. “Kennedy and I are dating.” Dawn, Anya and Xander stared at Buffy then Kennedy and back to Buffy speechless. Willow, the only one who could form any words, asked what they all wanted to know. “Since when are you gay?” “Since Faith.” That left all four of them dumfounded. “You remember how Faith was always hounding me about being a Slayer and Hungry and Horny?” That got Kennedy interested. “Well it’s true. A good slay and well I do get worked up. And with her around it wasn’teasyeasy to hide. She kept riding me and I slowly fell for her. We didn’t say anything cos we didn’t want to freak anyone. Anyway we got closer and closer until she killed the deputy mayor. She wouldn’t talk to me and well you know the rest.” They all stared at her shocked. Willow was the first to find her voice, “Faith. You slept with Faith.” “She wasn’t always crazy and killing people.” It was true, they all new that. They all liked her. That is until she killed the deputy mayor. “Anyway were going out so see ya.”
Buffy was desperate to get away and Kennedy allowed Buffy to drag her down the street. When they reached a park Buffy finally slowed down. “Buffy. It’s okay. They weren’t that freaked. So what’s with the running act?” “I don’t know I guess I panicked. This was the only thing I could think to do besides punch walls.” Kennedy smiled. “So now that we are out of the house I think we should talk Slayer. Your vision quest and my favorite, Hungry and Horny?” Buffy laughed, “Okay.” They found a secluded spot in the park and sat down facing each other. “So Hungry and Horny first as it is easier. Slayers for some reason get H and H cravings after a fight. Big, small it doesn’t matter; there are cravings. After a big fight, like say apocalypse kind well lets just say I get really carried away. I become almost an animal in my want for food and sex. It becomes a problem. I’m guessing you don’t think it will.” Kennedy nods enthusiastically. “Kenn, my human boyfriend Riley, I nearly killed him once. Only Faith, Angel and Spike have been able to take it completely. The intensity. I know you’rt hut human but you’re nowhere near my strength. I don’t want to hurt you.” “I get it but Buffy I love you. Including freaky Slayer strength. Let’s move on shall we?” “Okay quest. I felt that I was beginning to lose my ability to love. So Giles took me into the middle of the desert. A mountain lion led me to the sacred place cos no one but the Slayer can see it. The First Slayer was the guide. She told me that the Slayer is full of love that I forge strength through love. That love will lead me to my gift. That death is my gift. At first I didn’t get it. I thought that meant that the Slayer was just a killer. It wasn’t till I fought Glory that I realized that it was my death that would close the dimensional portals. My death was a gift to the world, because my death saved the world.” “Wow”
They sfounfound that darkness was fast approaching and knew that meant the Potentials would be home soon. Running back to the house both got nice warm showers before the group returned. Buffy announced her and Kennedy’s relationship to Giles hoping to get a smile. But Giles was far from happy, he took Buffy into a room and locked the door, not that it mattered everyone was by the door listening. They could hear Giles ranting; “Are you insane. Starting a relationship now. With a Potential no less. You are her teacher this is taking advantage of the situation.” Buffy was calm with all her replies, “Giles she is the best one there. There is not much I could really teach her and besides it was her that chased me.” “I don’t care. End it Buffy. Spike and Kennedy are a liability to you. Spike because he’s dangerous and Kennedy because your feelings for her will get in the way. Those girls’ lives are in your hands. You need to be a general. You’re nowhere near it. You still have much to learn.” “Yes my hands. Not yours. The Council is gone and I’m in charge. Spike is a good man. He is teaching these girls so much. And he is our strongest warrior next to me. As for Kennedy, all my relationships including Spike and Faith have given me more strength more reason to fight then you ever could. You want me to be the general. Fine. I’m giving you an order. Stay away from Spike. Stay away from Kennedy. Stay out of my girls’ way. I have nothing more to learn from you.” As everyone heard the argument coming to a close they tried to get away from the door and act like they heard none of it.
The two exited and looked around and they knew instantly that the rest had heard everything. Giles went to the basement. Buffy got Kennedy’s attention and they went upstairs to their room. “Well that was fun.” Everyone looked at Spike, unamused, but had to agree. Upstairs as soon as the door was shut Kennedy pulled Buffy into her arms and kissed her wildly. “What’s that for?” “You are amazing. No one has ever stuck up for me like you just did. Thank you.” “You’re welcome. Look do you want to go out again. I need to clear my head.” “Of course Buffy. Whatever you want.”
