DAWN AT DAWN AND DAWN AT DUSK
CHAPTER 67 – DAWN AT DAWN AND DAWN AT DUSK
“Hey, Buffy? Are you still going to help with dinner?” Dawn yelled, outside of the bedroom window a few minutes later.
Buffy and William both groaned.
“Dawn, it’s okay, don’t bother them, we’re okay,” Angela said, winking in the direction of the back of the RV.
“Oh, come on, it’s not everyday that I get to relive being the pain-in-the-ass, little sister,” Dawn said, smiling with more than a little glee.
“Buffy!” she yelled again.
“I’m going to strangle that Dawn,” Buffy said, reluctantly pulling out of William’s grasp.
“You think she…?”
“Oh yeah. She’s just being a pain in my behind, for the sake of it right now!” Buffy grumbled. But at least life wasn’t dire at the moment, belied by the fact that a bit of lighthearted fouldould be had, even at her expense.
“Then, please, allow me to help you with the strangulation plan,” William said, as he flopped over onto his back, groaning.
“Buffy! Don’t you pay any mind to Dawn, we’ve got it all covered!” Angela yelled up at the window.
William looked up hopefully, but she shook her head, “I can’t. Not now, that they all think they know what we’re up to!”
“Well, they’re right,” he said, with a lazy smile, patting the bed, “seems a shame to disappoint…”
“I’d better go help,” she sighed, “but you can still rest.”
“Didn’t want rest…”
“I know. Later?”
“That’s what you said before,” he said, pouting.
“Then I’ll promise and triple swear this time, okay?”
“Hold you to it.”
“Know you will,” she said, smiling as she walked out of the bedroom.
“Are they always like this?” Xander asked, making a face.
Willow and Dawn both nodded emphatically, “All the time, morning, noon, afternoon, early evening…” Dawn said.
“Let’s not forget mid-morning, late afternoon, middle of the night…”
“God! I’m sorry I asked!”
“Sorry you asked what?” Buffy said, coming down the RV steps.
“Uh, nothing. Nevermind,” Xander said, turning red.
Buffy looked at each of her friends. It was clear that Dawn and Willow were busting up inside with laughter.
She walked over to Dawn, looked her in the eye, seriously, then punched her playfully in the arm, “Payback’s a bitch, you know.n men meet bitch, bitch, Dawn,” she said, grinning.
“Ow,” Dawn said, cracking up.
“And so, for dinner…” Xander said, desperately looking for the subject to change to anything other than Buffy’s, obviously, busy-making-up-for-lost-time sex life.
“Yeah, let me go help Angela.”
Dawn walked into the RV, just as William com coming through.
“Hi, William,” she said, grinning.
“Hello, fun killer,” he said softly, giving her a sly, sideways glance, as he was walking by.
“What?” she said, innocently.
“I have a poem for you.”
“You do?”
“Want to hear it?”
“Sure,” she said, eyeing him cautiously, as if he’d just offered her a case of the plague, “I guess so.”
He cleared his throat, “Okay, this is for you, Dawn,” he said, pulling out a small slip of paper.
Dawn at dawn and Dawn at dusk,
Breaks hearts of those, abound with lust,
Her long hair swings shiny, as she runs,
Averting Big Sis & William's loving fun.
Dawn looked at William, her mouth breaking into an enormous grin, until she finally howled with laughter.
He handed her the paper and bowed with all the false dignity he could muster, trying hard not to laugh along with her.
Overcome by laughter and tickled by William’s attempt to put her in her place, she grabbed him and hugged him hard.
“I’m so glad you’re back and that we’re friends again, Spike,” she said, using his familiar name and giving him a kiss on the cheek. Then before he could say anything, she ran off into the bathroom, still laughing.
William came out, a bemused expression on his face.
“What was all the laughter about?” Buffy asked him, puzzled by his look.
“Friendship.”
