Chapter 5

Chapter 5

Faith arrived back at the cottage a little after four o clock. Two senior members of the watchers council sat in the lounge drinking tea.

“Glad to see you could take time out of your schedule to uphold your duties.” The eldest member of the council sarcastically remarked as she entered the room.

“I’m here now, what’s the sitch?” Faith stood in the doorway having no intention of staying at the meeting to long. She had other more important things to be thinking about, one of which being the brunette she had left half naked not a half hour before.

“Rupert tells us he thinks you should be the one to meet with the immortal and impress him with whatever it is you do.”

“Whatever it is I do!” Faith looked to Giles angrily her patience wearing thin, her experience with the council left her cold to their presence.

“Well we all know you don’t like authority figures.” The second member entered the conversation.

“Fuck You, You need me more than I want to help you so I don’t give a flying fuck what you think, I’m here for Giles, Buffy and the gang, not the council.” Faith looked to Giles “I’m sorry G, i'm not taking this, let me know when you’ve all decided what's best for the fate of mankind and what role you want me to take.” Faith left the room going into the kitchen to calm herself.

Giles followed quickly behind her “Faith do you really think that outburst was necessary?”

“Actually yeah I do, you know how I feel about them G. I’m here for you and the gang as far as I’m concerned they can take a long running jump off a short pier.” She paced the room trying to control the anger growing inside her.

“Please Faith for me, come back inside. We only need them to put us in contact with the immortal. I promise after today I will keep them as far from you as possible.”

“Fine, but after today I’m not dealing with them.” Faith took a deep breath and made her way back to the lounge. Taking a seat in the large recliner opposite the two men.

Giles spoke first in a vain attempt to disperse some of the tension from the room “So when…or where is this meeting with the immortal to take place?”

“Four days, He will be at the headquarters in four days to meet with our chosen one. If he decides she is worthy then the trails will begin.” The elder took the lead in conversation.

“Do we know what he expects from her?” Giles removed his glasses rubbing them on a handkerchief from his pocket.

“No we didn’t have any luck finding anything in the archives unfortunately. She will be expected to be up to date with her training and at peak fitness.” He looked over to Faith to see her subtly giving him the finger.

“I assure you Faith is ready and beyond capable for anything she must face.” He replaced his glasses to his face “She…We are ready”

“What about Lara?” Faith sat forward in her seat, directing the question to Giles.

The elder member stood “The council don’t think your relationship with Miss Croft is appropriate, you are to stop seeing her immediately. You are here as a slayer and a spokes person for the watcher council. So Miss Croft is not to be told anything of why you are here, do you understand Miss Lehane.”

Faith raised an eyebrow in disgust at the member in front of her. She wasn’t going to waste her energy arguing with someone she couldn’t stand the sight of. She had already decided to tell Lara everything if the circumstances unfolded, proving her to be in danger.

“K. So we done here then, I have training I should be doing.”

“Yes for now, and by the way Miss Lehane if you step one foot out of line while you are here make no mistake, we will take action against you.”

“Is that a threat?” Faith moved to stand face to face with him.

Giles stepped in “Right then so if we are done here I think you should get on with that erm….Training.”

Faiths never let her gaze stray from the man in front of her “Training yeah...suppose so.” Faith turned as she left the room giving him the finger as she left.

Giles stood in the middle of the room, uncomfortable in the atmosphere that had been created.

“You need to control her, a little better Rupert, She’s destructive, she has no respect for the job we do or for us.”

“What would you suggest I do, tie her down give her shock therapy? Faith will succeed; she will find the scythe and prove to everyone she is worthy. Might I add the reason she has survived this long is because of her instinct, you have no idea what that girl has to live with everyday, every time she looks into a mirror. Maybe if you showed her a little respect, then she might just surprise you.”

He took a deep breath “Now if you don’t mind, I have things to do.”

“We will call if we find anything in the archives, until then Rupert I suggest you keep a tight leash on your little slayer.”

“I’m sure you can find you own way out.”

Giles went to look for Faith.

Faith had showered and changed her clothes when Giles knocked on her room door.

“It’s open”

“Faith are you alright?”

“Yeah G, Sorry about all that stuff.”

“Faith. I erm I noticed your lack of protest when Lara was mentioned. I hope you’re not going to do what I think you are.”

“What do mean?”

“You could make things worse getting her involved you know.”

“I know G, this has nothing to do with me and her, but I know in my gut I know she is supposed to help us.”

“As always Faith I trust your instinct. Just be sure before you make any decisions”

“I will G”

“Good, that said you have a few days till your meeting I suggest you have yourselves some fun before it all starts. Just do me a favour and don’t forget to do at least some training.” He smiled as he left the room.
