Epilogue
“Will she be okay?” Oz asked of Giles when they got back to the house.
“I think so.” Giles answered. “She seems to be responding well to the treatment, and they’re keeping her in more for observation now rather than anything else.”
As they walked into the front room Xander turned to smiled at the two of them.
“The trip to the psychiatric ward went well?” He asked. “Will Willow be getting home soon?”
“Hopefully within the next week or so.” Giles answered. “She’ll still need counselling after she comes home.” He informed Xander. “And the doctors think it would help if Oz stays for a while, that it will help Willow come to terms with her grief and the actions she took because of it.”
“That’s good,” Xander responded. “I think I’ll take her to see Tara’s grave as well if she’s up to it. I think she was disappointed that she couldn’t get to the funeral.”
“The doctors thought the funeral would be too much for her.” Giles reminded him. “Don’t try and push things when she gets back. Willow will need to take things at her own pace and doing things like visiting Tara’s grave only when she feels completely comfortable doing so,” he advised Xander.
“It will take time but I’m sure we’ll all adjust.” Giles continued. “We’ve got to remember that she’s still the Willow that she was before Tara’s death, that she just has an illness that she has to contend with.”
“I know Giles, it’s just… We saw what she did. Oz lived through it. There’s going to be some weirdness between us.”
“That… that wasn’t Willow.” Oz interjected. “It was physically Willow, but you’ve got to try and see that a healthy Willow would never have done that. The grief over Tara’s death made something inside of her just lose control. From that point until we made her face the fact that Tara was truly dead, it wasn’t the Willow we know.” Oz explained.
“And if you have any love for her, you’ll find a way not to be weird around her.” Oz offered.
Xander nodded, content with this explanation from Oz, knowing that he could accept Willow back into his life and also realising that if Oz could forgive what she had done to him then he would have no trouble in doing the same.
