Rating: R possible Nc-17

Disclaimer: Not mine and never will be. It's depressing really. ::sniff::sniff::

Author's Note: You guys remember all that Angel angst I mentioned… well guess what it’s a coming! SO BEWARE TO ALL YOU ANGEL LOVERS… I love him myself but for the purpose of this fiction we must cause more pain for the ensouled vampire. Also Buffy never slept with Parker, he try to get her into bed and she refused so he lied about their sexual exploits, okay I think that’s it

Chapter Six – Into the Light

Giles small apartment was filled to the brim everyone was present and accounted for except an Irishmad ond one small blonde Slayer. Xander, Anya and Oz occupied the couch while Willow made herself comfortable by Oz’s feet. Cordelia occupied one of the stools near the counter that led to the kitchen and Angel had found himself a place on the stairs hidden partially by the shadows there. Once Giles exited the kitchen he made himself comfortable in the arm chair adjacent to the couch.

“Soooo what exactly are we doing here?” asked Xander

“Well actually I think that question will be better answered by Angel” he said as he pinched the bridge of his nose.

Angel looked slightly uncomfortable at first as all the attention was directed solely on him. He shifted slightly from foot to foot and cleared his throat before he began.

“Uh well, Doyle… he works with me and Cordelia but as of late, he’s been off. Umm and he’s been making more trips out of town then usual. He also kept slipping up and mentioning things about… about Buffy… and well”

Cordelia the ever tactful had decided that he’d danced around the subject enough and decided to finish what he started.

“Basically what he’s trying to find is if Buffy has been acting just as funky lately”

Everyone just shook their heads in negation. Xander and Anya had been too wrapped up in themselves and their new budding relationship to notice any change in Buffy. Giles had no reason to think her any different; she still patrolled but complained about it and was still late to her training sessions so he could see nothing wrong there. Just that she’d been in more of a good mood as of late. Oz just kept his face as neutral as ever the only one who truly noticed a change in Buffy was Willow and she decided it was time the rest of the gang knew.

“Umm I kinda noticed something…”

This seemed to catch everyone’s attention especially Angel’s for some reason though he masked his eager reaction well. The only one who seemed to notice Angel’s unusually reaction was Oz but all he did was quirk and eyebrow before he gave his full attention back to the red head at his feet.

“Willow you noticed something?” Giles asked, instantly concerned for his Slayer

“Well kinda yea, I mean I know we don’t room together anymore but a lot of our classes are still the same and we use to do the study buddy thing all the time. In fact always after Mythology class we always headed over to the grotto and got sugared up on mochas before we hit the books but she’s been bailing lately for the past two weeks or so.”

“Hmmm, she did ask if she was needed this week. I told her no thinking she just wanted a break from the usually. Apparently she’s already been taking a break from the norm as it were” Giles said

“Wait the Buffster bailed on Hellmouth duty and didn’t tell any of us first” Xander asked

“Well not really, I mean she did ask me and she said that she was leaving this afternoon. Neither of us thought it was really that big of a deal, she’s going to be back in about a week…” Giles trailed off

“Where did she go? I mean did she say where she was going?” Angel asked for the first time

“Uh no, I have her new cell phone number so I again I saw no need to encroach on her privacy. If I needed her I could reach her that way”

An uneasy silence settled over the room, the Scoobs were trying to think of reasons as to why Buffy would become so distant. After the Sunday incident everyone had decided to talk more and try to spend more time together. Now Angel was slowly putting the pieces of the puzzle together and the closer he got to the finish the less he like the answer, though Cordelia was the one to announce it to the rest of them.

“Hey Angel, didn’t Doyle start acting all weird about the same time as Buffy. I mean maybe its all connected or something. I mean they did meet up that day outside the office…” she offered helpfully

“Uh yea… look I gotta go, Cordelia you stay here. I need to check something out” and with that Angel left the apartment and slipped out into the night.

“I bet you anything Buffy and Doyle are organism buddies” Anya said bluntly

“Mmmm this is nice” Buffy murmured

Doyle just let out a soft grunt in agreement as he continued to let his hand leisurely trail up and down her bare back. They’d just spent the better part of the afternoon indulging in the pleasures of one another’s bodies and had just stopped now to watch the sunset. Their bedroom had a second set of doors that led out onto a balcony. Earlier Doyle opened them up to let the sun stream into the room and now they were watching the sunset just beneath the horizon.

“Do you think that maybe one day it could always be like this?” Buffy asked softly

Doyle sighed knowing that there was no way that they could avoid this conversation. It had been weighing on both of their minds that they couldn’t possible keep this up forever, at some point it had to end… right?

“Oh sweetheart, if there was a way I’d take you so far away from here” he sighed into her hair.

This caused Buffy to sit up, her thighs were on other side of his legs and she felt his flaccid manhood press up against her she had to stifle a moan. She knew that there was no way she could ever leave this man laying before her. She observed him from under hooded lashes. She couldn’t help the soft moan as she felt his hands kneading her hips.

“Alan, I don’t want to ever loose you. I can’t…” she looked down at him with unshed tears in her eyes. She knew that the gang back in Sunnydale was starting to get suspicious of her behavior and that they’d have to tone it down a bit or find a new way of seeing each other.

Doyle just pulled her down to him and pressed a kiss to her temple. When he felt the soft splash of hot tears against his chest he just held her all the more closer to him. He also was having problems keeping this secret from his friends in L.A. After their first night together his advances toward Cordelia had all but stopped. At first Cordelia was beyond ecstatic about it but soon she missed the attention that the Brachen Demon used to give her.

“Don’t worry princess, I won’t let that happen. I’ll figure out something, I promise”

Angel had tried Doyle’s cell phone numerous times and each time there was no answer. He had also tried calling the office and again there was no answer. The ensouled vampire headed all the way back to L.A. and even went as far as to check out the Brachen Demon’s apartment and Caritas. They all turned up empty.

As the ensouled vampire exited the club he sullenly walked towards his car feeling defeated. Suddenly he remember a day about a week ago when he decided to follow Doyle and find out where he’d been running off to lately. He found him at an apartment complex that seemed to be very selective with its tenants.

With a new found confidence he jumped into his car and headed toward the highway, he had a good feeling he knew where Doyle was and he was pretty sure that he’d find Buffy with him. Whatever the hell was going on he was determined to find out what it was.

The lights of L.A. were soon behind him as he sped down the darkened highway. Angel knew somewhere inside of himself that he wasn’t going to like what he was about to find there but he had to know for sure. As he pulled up to the complex he noted how the only light came from either the apartments or the lanterns that were placed thhouthout the gardens. Stepping out of his car and surveying the gates he knew that he could easily get inside. Taking in the area he saw the parking lot which held the occupants vehicles and he didn’t miss Doyle’s car or Buffy’s new bike parked across from one another

He then pulled out his cell and made a call to Sunnydale.

“Hello, Giles”

“Angel, where are you?”

“I’ve found them… Do you know that small town just off the highway about an hour out of Sunnydale?”

“Uh yes, of course”

“Good, get here… I’m at the Clover Apartments”

With that the vampire snapped his phone shut without waiting for an answer. He jumped the fence with ease and extended his senses, easily finding both Slayer and Brachen. Within a few moments he was scaling one of the buildings, he lithely jumped down onto one of the balconies but was careful to stay hidden within the shadows.

What he saw made his stolen blood run hot. There in the room tangled in the sheets was his former lover and friend obviously naked and enjoying post coitus bliss. Tears of hurt came to his eyes and he angrily brushed them away. Angel felt his control slipping, it was then he knew that this was going to end badly… especially for the two lovers oblivious to the world around them.
