Chapter 6

Waving to the delivery guy's who'd given her 10 bucks for helping them Dawn shut the door and locked it. Going back upstairs she found Spike in her room rolling lilac paint onto the walls.

"Hey. That paint was mouldy!" She told him, peering into the pot that was now plain lilac. Spike chuckled at her and threw her a clean roller.

"Wasn't mouldy. It just needed a stir. C'mon we gotta get this room done by tonight." Spike replied, not looking down from the ladder where he was painting the ceiling. Dawn grabbed the short-handed roller and began to paint the opposite wall.

It was hours later when Dawn finally put down her paintbrush and cracked open a can of Mountain Dew. The walls were finished and so was the ceiling. It was a good thing the floor was washable because she had splattered paint not only all over herself but all over the floor as well. Spike was sat in the middle of the floor, a plastic bag of blood hanging from his mouth as he slowly drained its contents. Dawn watched, fascinated as the plastic shrivelled and the blood ran in rivulets up the package and into his mouth.

Throwing Dawn his new cordless phone, Spike instructed her to order a pizza and wings while he got started on his own room.

"Hey Spike?" Dawn called.

"What?" He replied, not looking down from the ceiling he was painting crimson.

"You're gonna have a blood coloured room?" She asked. Spike chuckled and pointed at the other can of paint he had opened. It was a charcoal grey that almost matched the metal trimmings of the rest of the penthouse. Dawn had to admit. It would probably look quite nice when it was finished. She grabbed a paintbrush and dipped it into the grey paint and began to paint the doorframe.

Standing back to admire the woodwork that she'd just painted Dawn was grateful to hear the doorbell. Running down to the door she grabbed the pizza and paid the kid, swinging the door shut in his face as she took the pizza back up to share with Spike. The first floor was a maze of beds, sofas, and boxes and the second floor was a mess of decorating goods so she decided to take it into a spare room that didn't smell of paint.

Watching Spike as he sat down to join her she swallowed her pizza quick, "What're you gonna do with the spare rooms?" She asked before he could get his slice into his mouth.

"Dunno." He mused. He had a bedroom, a study for all his books, maybe a computer, an entertainment area, an unnecessary kitchen and another living area. If Nibblet took up one bedroom then he had two spare ones. He knew he could offer them to Joyce, but she was a proud lady and already had a house. "We can paint them when we know what they're gonna be used for." He told her, shovelling his folded pizza slice into his mouth whole.
