Chapter 6: The newness of it
1 week later.
“Alright Faith I’ve pushed your paper work through and the school board has approved you to take our physical education opening. We’re really short on teachers so they waived the license requirement. You can start a week from Monday. That’s the third trimester. It’s 7:00AM to 3:00PM, as you know. You’ll have five classes a day with one free period and a lunch hour. I’ll have Ms. Summers show you around and introduce you to the other faculty in your department. That should be it.” Principal Wood shook Faith’s hand. “It’ll be comforting to know that we have not one, but two, slayers on staff.”
“Yeah that must be good to have in this town.” Faith smiled at him. “Thank you again.”
“We need people like you Faith.” He led her out to Buffy’s desk. She looked up from her computer.
“Ms. Summers would you show the newest member of Sunnydale High’s faculty around the building?” Buffy jumped up quickly.
“You got the job?!” The blonde hugged her lover. “I am so proud of you!”
“Thanks B—uffy…” She looked at principal Wood. Buffy broke in.
“I’ll show her around!” She grinned at her boss.

“You did it! Aren’t you so excited?” Buffy laughed leading Faith out of the main office.
A large grin spread across Faith’s face. “Yes!” She squealed happily. “Buffy I have a real job! I’m a teacher!”
“I know you get to be in the grind like the rest of us.” Buffy pulled Faith along by the arm.
“OK that is the cafeteria. You’ll want to know that one. Right now we’re in the English wing. Right above the cafeteria is the library and the History wing. There are math and science wings and … other school subjects…but I don’t know where they are. Oh! But I know where your wing is!”
“That’d be helpful.” Faith laughed at her nervous girlfriend. She couldn’t believe how close they had gotten. She did know that she wanted to spend the rest of her life with this woman.
After some wondering they came upon Faith’s wing. There were three large gyms, a weight room, locker rooms and offices. Buffy spotted two men standing in the hall way
“Mr. Weber, Mr. Baylor, this is the new gym teacher Faith Spencer.”
“Hey little lady. Are you sure you can handle this?” Mr. Baylor snickered.
“Well I’m going to give it a try.”
“Do you know what you’re going to teach this semester?” Buffy asked, trying to break the ice.
“I think I’m going to do three classes of self defense and two yoga classes. Principal Wood already approved them.”
“The kids should love that.” Buffy assured her.
“Well good luck with that. You have the south gym.” Mr. Weber shook her hand. “It’s good to have such a pretty thing to work with.” He let his eyes roam a little to long.
“Yep Mr. Baylor is a hunk. Buffy can you show me my office?”
“Right this way.” They entered Faith’s office. It was small with a desk and computer along with a few chairs.
“Those guy are not what I’d call pleasant.” Faith planted herself behind her desk. “I have a desk. B I have a fucking desk! Can you believe this? I love you so much.” Buffy bent over the desk and planted a quick kiss on her girlfriend’s lips.
“I have to get back to work. I’ll walk you up?”
“Sweet deal.” Buffy walked Faith to the main entrance. “I’ll see you when I get home.” Faith waved to her and headed towards home.

Willow met Faith in the kitchen. Since she had come back her and Faith had been civil to one another. They had even begun getting along. “Buffy left something for you this morning.” The red head smiled at Faith and handed her a slip of paper.
“Wear something nice? Be ready by 8:00? What is this?”
“I’m no place near knowing. Do you need to go shopping?”
“Hell yes. I have nothing nice.”
“We’ll get that taken care of.” Willow grabbed Faith’s hand and pulled her out of the door.

“The mall? C’mon Red…don’t make me…”
“Buffy gave me very specific directions. You are to look of the good.”
“Fine. Only for B.”
“So anything in mind?”
“Something pastel, I know how B loves that shit.”
“I know what store we should go to!” Willow yanked Faith down one of the long corridors of the mall.

Faith walked down the stairs of the summer’s home at 7:50pm. “How do I look?” She twirled around. She wore a knee length flowing white skirt, a light peach satin, corset style tank top and white strappy high-heeled shoes. Her hair was piled on her head with a few cascading curls and her make up was light.
“Oh my god!” Dawn choked on her pizza. “You look gorgeous! Buffy’s gonna shit!”
“Watch your mouth.” Faith warned.
“I think we did a good job.” Willow stated approvingly from the couch. The doorbell interrupted them.
“That must be your date!” Dawn giggled. Faith opened the door.
“Wow.” The chosen two said in unison. Buffy wore a burgundy strapless thigh length dress that flared at the bottom and open black shoes. Her hair was long and wavy. Buffy kissed Faith softly.
“Are you ready?”
“Always B.”
“We’ll see you guys later. Dawn don’t stay up too late.” She warned before sliding an arm around the brunette’s waist and leading her to the car. “This is the first of tonight’s surprises.” She pointed to the 2003 red Honda Civic. “It’s yours. From Giles for starting your job.”
“Buffy I…”
“Deserve it. You can thank him later. Is it ok if I drive it. We’re going some place special.”
“Ok…” Faith said stunned.
“You look beautiful by the way.” Buffy kissed her again as they got in the car.
“B this all… I cant believe my life right now.”
“I hope its only going to get better.” They drove in silence the rest of the way, Faith trying to contemplate all that was going on around her. Buffy stopped in a small parking lot along the beach. “Close your eyes and take my hand.” Buffy whispered opening the car door for her love. They walked along the beach until Buffy seated Faith. “Open your eyes.” Faith gasped. They were at a table in an alcove. There were hundreds of candles around them and dinner on the table. White roses circled their table.
“Buffy…” Faith began to cry. “This is so beautiful.” She tried to dab at her tears.
“I wanted to do something special.”
“This is the nicest thing…” She began to cry again.
“Faith eat dinner with me.” Buffy cooed, squeezing the younger girls hand. “We have lobster tails, wild rice, bread and fresh fruit.”
“Did you…”
“No don’t worry I didn’t cook it. Giles did.” They ate their meal staring into each other’s eyes. When they finished Buffy took a deep breath. “Faith I love you.”
“I love you too Buffy. More than I thought was possible.” Buffy kneeled down next to Faith.
“I want to give you a good life. I want you to be happy and I want to watch you smile everyday. I lost you once and it broke my heart. Faith I never want to be away from you again…” Buffy reached into her purse and pulled out a small black box. Faith’s heart began to beat wildly. The small slayer opened the box. “Faith Spencer…will you marry me?” Tears were falling uncontrollably from both girl’s eyes.
“Yes.” Faith managed an almost inaudible whisper. Buffy slipped the ring on her fiancés left ring finger, then she handed Faith a box.
“This was my mother’s and her mother’s before that.” Faith gently placed the ring in the place that it would stay forever; she proceeded to pull her future wife into a tight embrace.
“I’ll never leave your side Buffy.” She promised, kissing Buffy passionately. They stayed that way, crying, until Faith pulled away. “B I want to do this right. I want you to have your dream wedding. And I want to wait to…make love. I think it will mean more.” Buffy placed a hand over her mouth and smiled.
“I think that would be lovely. We’ll have to have the wedding soon because I’m finding it hard to stay off of you.”
“Fuck you’re telling me.” Faith looked down at her ring. “That thing is huge!”
“It’s 1.5 karats set in white and yellow gold.” The ring’s center stone was 1-karat princess cut and there were three smaller side stones on either side. Inside was engraved ‘the chosen two’. Buffy’s center stone was square and one karat with diamond chips circling the band. It held the same engraving on the inside. “Giles is paying for the wedding.”
“Buffy this is amazing we’re getting married!”
“I know we have a lot of planning to do.”
“Let’s get started.”
*** *** *** ***
“Yay!” Dawn yelled as the women entered the magic box after spending the night on the beach. “You said yes!” She hugged Faith.
“Of course, who wouldn’t want to marry your sister.”
“Congratulations.” Giles smiled, hugging both of his slayers tightly. “I’m so proud of both of you.”
“Can I get in on the hugging action?” Xander wrapped his arms around the happy couple. “This is so wonderful.”
“It is!” Willow squeezed the chosen two and kissed both of the on the cheek.
“Yes it is wonderful that you will get married. I wish it was me instead.” Everyone looked at Anya behind the counter.
“Anya you and Xander are already married.” Buffy frowned.
“Yes but I want to do it again.” Xander sighed and shook his head.
“Anyway…” Willow brought the group back on track. “Do you guys know what you want?”
“I’m open to anything. I have a feeling B has had this planned since she was an infant.”
“Well I have some ideas. I was thinking outside. Like maybe that flower field we used to go to. Angel said he’d wear the gem of Ammara just this once so we don’t have to worry about the time of day. I already talked to Giles he’s going to give me away. Oh! I want a pretty dress!”
“You’ll have one sweetie.” Faith brushed a hand through Buffy’s hair.
“So I was thinking Xander, you talk to owner of the field. Willow, Anya, and Dawn can help pick out dresses, I’ll handle flowers, Faith I’m sure you’ll want to dot he food, Giles can do invitations cause he’s all…English and when we get that done we’ll see what else there is to do. Is that OK?”
“That sounds great baby.” Faith winked at the group.
“Ok everyone we should get started.” Buffy took the lead role. Xander headed out of the door. Willow, Buffy, Dawn, and Anya started to the bridal shop and Faith hopped up on the counter.
“Giles I wanted to say thank you for all of this. You know paying for the wedding and the car, fuck that car is awesome.”
“It’s quite alright. I just want to see you two happy.”
“Well thank you. Do you mind if I use the phone?”
“Go right ahead.” He nodded to it and left the room. Faith dialed and waited.
“Angel investigations.”
“Angel it’s Faith.”
“Oh Faith did you…”
“I said yes and I had a question.”
“Ask.”
“Will you…you know… well when we get married…Giles is…You’re like a big brother to me….”
“Faith what is it?”
“Will you give me away.” There was silence.
“I would be honored Faith.”
“Well that takes care of that. I have to call around to see about food.”
“Good-bye Faith.” Faith hung up and went to find Giles.

Three Days Later
“Ok we have the place, the food, the flowers, the guests, and the dresses. Am I forgetting anything?” Buffy was frantic.
“Honey relax everything is going to be perfect and we have a few weeks.”
“Are white and red roses ok?”
“They’re gorgeous Buffy.” Faith pulled her closer.
“But what if…”
“B, everything is going to be wonderful, now you haven’t slept in 3 days which means I haven’t slept in three days. Go to sleep.” She kissed the jittery bride to be.
“Alright.” Buffy snuggled into the warmness of her partner and fell asleep to dreams of her upcoming wedding.
