“You understand what I want you to do?”

“Seek and destroy the Slayer.”

“Right. And it’s to look like…”

“A suicide.”

“Excellent. I think this will be a wonderful partnership.”

Faith and Wesley hadn’t spoken to each other for two days since the night she and Spike had sex.

Things were tense, everyone was cranky.

“Maybe they gave up.” Fred suggested hopefully.

Angel shook his head. “No, too easy.”

“Maybe she’s right Angel.” Buffy pushshrushrugging. “I mean, they haven’t done anything in almost two weeks.”

“At least we’ve got the protection spell.” Gunn added with a nod in Willow’s direction.

Willow nodded back and smiled gratefully.

“Y’know, they haven’t tried anything as long as B’s been here.” Faith spoke up, looking at Angel and Buffy.

“You don’t think the law firm’s uneasy about there being two slayers here, do you?” Buffy asked her.

Wesley sighed. “It’s not Wolfram and Hart we have to worry about. It’s Lilah.”

“What?” Fred asked in confusion. “I, I thought they were pretty much the same thing.”

Angel looked at him wearily. “What are you not telling us?”

“Lilah, she found out about Faith… and I. She got upset, jealous. The contract had
nothing to do with this. It was all about Lilah’s bruised ego.”

Faith hopped from her seat and turned on Wesley in frustration. “Whoa whoa whoa! You mean this bitch is trying to have me killed because we spent a few months fucking in a back alley?” she asked accusingly.

Fred, Buffy and Willow stared in shock, not quite believing what they’d just heard. Gunn smiled and laughed, thoroughly enjoying the scene being displayed.

Wesley blushed, preparing to answer. Faith didn’t give him to chance.

“No, forget it. I swear, I should just become a fuckin’ nuoin oin a convent. Because no matter who I have sex with, it seems to piss someone off. I can’t win.”

“I don’t think they’d allow you into a convent.” Gunn laughed hysterically, slapping his knee. Faith turned to glare at him and he stopped, clearing his throat. “I, I mean, not without your parent’s permission.”

Faith turned and stormed out into the garden. “Un-fucking-believeable!” she shouted. She sat down on one of the stone benches in the center of the garden, putting her elbows on her knees and laying her head in her hands.

Buffy soon followed her, sitting next to her and gently touching her shoulder.

“So, you’ve been pretty busy since getting out of jail.” She joked, laughing lightly.

Faith glared up at her and Buffy stopped. “Sorry.”

Faith shook her head. “No… it’s true. Ugh!” she growled, running her hands through her hair in frustration. “I don’t know what I’m doing.” She moaned, followed by a sigh. “How the hell did I get here?”

Buffy furrowed her brow. “I… think you walked out and sat down.” she joked.

Faith smiled and shook her head. “Y’know, when I was in jail… I thought about Wes constantly. And if I was ever gonna be able to face him again, let alone apologize. I never in my wildest dreams thought I’d be screwing him.”

Buffy shrugged. “Well, I don’t think anyone thought you’d sleep with Spike either, bu-“

Faith’s head snapped up at her. “Wh- how’d you know about that?”

Buffy winced and bit her lip. “Oops. Fred and Gunn, they-“

“They told everyone?! I thought only Wes found out!”

Buffy looked at her fellow Slayer helplessly. “ ‘Told’ wouldn’t exactly be the word used to describe the events. It wasn’t vocal more than it was written on their faces.”

The next few minutes were spent awkward silence until Buffy took a breath.

“So… you and Spike aren’t like-“

“God, no!” Faith cried irritably. “It was just… we were… he-I…no.”

Buffy nodded. “Good, good. So um, what about you and Wesley?”

“What about me and Wesley?”

Buffy rolled her eyes. “C’mon, Faith! There’s obviously something between you two. Beneath all of the angst and hostility, th-“

“No there’s not.”

“Bull. If there wasn’t, you two wouldn’t fight so much. And he wouldn’t be so blatantly jealous of Spike. And you wouldn’t talk about him so much. And-“

“Alright, alright!” Faith shouted and stood. She turned her back to the hotel and opened her mouth to speak but hesitated when she heard a small whizzing sound.

She felt a pinch in her hip and another in her arm. She checked, seeing two small darts. Her vision blurred and she looked back at Buffy helplessly.

“B…” she managed to get out before collapsing.

“It’s a really rare blood disease.” Fred began, looking up from her microscope.

Buffy crossed her arms and looked at her, concerned. “How rare?”

“So rare it doesn’t have a name… and it’s only found in vampires.” the small Texan answered sheepishly, pushing her glasses up onto the bridge of her nose.

Buffy shook her head. “I- I’m lost.” She said in frustration.

Willow looked at her friend in concern before looked at Fred. “Is there anything else on it?”

“It’s kinda like a vampiric form of HIV. It’s been used twice on previous Slayers and it’s… killed them both.” Fred read from the passage in her book and sighed, shaking her head.

“How do vampires get blood diseases?” Everyone looked at him, their faces telling him the answer should be pretty obvious. He shook his head. “OK, lemme rephrase that. How does a disease ‘survive’ or whatever in a vampire? It’s a dead body. Nothing to feed on.”

Fred looked at her book. “It says here that it doesn’t feed off of anything or make the vampire sick. It just causes disfigurement and impotence.” She winced at the picture and quickly shut the book. “Really horrible disfigurement.” She shuddered.

Angel sighed and crossed his arms. “There’s gotta be a cure or something.”

Fred nodded. “The only cure is the blood of a vampire who’s infected with the disease. It does some counter acting thing, fights it off. But there’s not a lot of time. It killed the last two slayers within twenty-four hours.”

Angel sped down the street on the way to Wolfram and Hart. Buffy sat shotgun, gripping the door handle for dear life, while Spike and Gunn rode in back.

“Angel, I still don’t get it. If this place has vamp security, how the hell are you and Spike gonna get in?”

Angel shrugged and smirked as he swerved to the right, tires squealing to a stop in front of the law firm.

“Security sucks here.”

As they made their way toward the building, Spike began complaining. “Uh, what am I here for again? I can’t do anything to humans.” He grumbled.

Angel rolled his eyes and smiled, swinging the door open.

“Security’s not human here, either.” He chuckled as the four of them wd ind in.

Spike smiled and morphed into game face.

Lilah sat at her desk, finishing up her daily report on her computer. She checked her watch and sighed. She still had two hours left before she could leave.

Her eyes wandered from the computer screen and she checked the clock on the wall, just to compare the times. She sigheen sen she saw no difference.

“Lilah…”

Lilah jumped, looking up and seeing Angel, followed by some pretty little blonde.

“How the hell did you get in here?” She asked, smiling as she stood and walked in front of her desk.

Angel laughed. “You ask that every time I come for a visit. Should know the answer by know. Your security sucks.”

Lilah nodded. “Right. So, what do you want? Oh, let me guess. The little bitch Slayer is dead and you wanted to come tell me in person. How sweet.”

Angel moved to grab her, but Buffy beat him to it. She grabbed the lawyer by the neck and pinned her to the wall, lifting her just slightly off of her feet.

“I’m tired, and I wanna go home. And the fastest way to do that is to get the information I want, do what I need to do, and leave. So, you’re gonna tell me what I want to know… or, I have a vampire friend downstairs who’s been having trouble biting people. I’m sure he wouldn’t mind it if I did the hurting for him and gave him the leftovers.” She whispered deadly, loo the the lawyer straight in the eyes.

Lilah chuckled, trying to hide the fact that she was nervous.

“Haven’t seen you around before.”

Buffy tightened her grip on her neck. “Not from around here. Now, where’s this diseased vamp?”

Angel watched Buffy work and couldn’t help the smile that spread over his features. She hadn’t lost her touch. And she was still just as beautiful as ever.

Lilah glanced at Angel. “Angel, tell your little girlfriend here that it’s going to take a lot more than the Vulcan Death grip to get me to talk.”

Just then, her office doors slammed open, Gunn and Spike walking in with a nervous Gavin.

Buffy and Angel looked at them questioningly.

“Said he’d tell us everything if we didn’t hurt him.” Spike said, holding Gavin by the back of his shirt.

Gunn smiled. “Seems he hates Lilah almost as much as we do.”

Buffy looked at Gavin and looked back at Lilah, smiling. “More, huh?”

“Gavin!” Lilah growled. “If you say so much as one syllable I swear I’ll-“

“Her name’s Katarina. We’ve given her a loft up on 57th Street. She’s got a man-servant living with her. He’ll help you.”

Angel nodded and stepped towards Gavin, looking the short lawyer in the eyes. “You know what’ll happen if you’re lying, right?”

Gavin nodded eagerly. “Y-yes. I’m not lying. H-he’ll help you, I swear.”

Buffy shrugged and dropped Lilah to her feet. She moved as if she were turning to leave, but at the last minute, turned back around and punched Lilah hard in the face.

“Nice meeting you.” She said sweetly, almost sincerely before she, Gunn, Spike and Angel left.

Lilah held her face and glared at Gavin. She leaned on her desk, pressing a little red button on the underside.

“That’s it you little parasite. You are done. Fired, gone. The senior partners will not be happy with you.” She scolded him as four security guards walked into the office.

Gavin smirked when the guards bypassed him and instead grabbed a shocked Lilah. She stared at him, unable to speak at first.

“Wh-wh- I- what is this?”

Gavin shook his head. “You used contacts and clients of Wolfram and Hart for your own personal gain. Granted, it might’ve worked out to the advantage of the company, but that’s not what the intent was. The senior partners will not be happy with you.

"Your execution of the Slayer, Faith has been cancelled. And your job, Lilah,” he sighed and smiled as the guards began to drag her from the office. “has been terminated.”
