The Greatest Power

Buffy stood facing what was left of her army. She wasn’t surprised Faith had gotten the rest of the SIT’s killed. “I know how to defeat The First now. I know the secret,” she told them all. “It’s not just these new weapons. We’re going to use the greatest power in the universe to defeat The First.”

Faith looked skeptical, “And that would be?”

“Love.” Buffy turned to smile at Spike.

The gang made their way to the high school basement. The First had managed to open the Seal again using blood from the dead SIT’s. At least twenty ubervamps were waiting for them and more were starting to crawl out of the Seal. 

Buffy used the new scythe weapon to easily kill off several ubervamps at a time. The others fought hard, but were losing fast. Anya stepped in front of Andrew, saving his life. An ubervamp punched a hole through her chest, instantly killing her. Xander and Andrew grabbed Dawn and pulled her out of the basement. Willow was trying to get off a few spells when one of the ubervamps went after Kennedy, distracting her just enough so that another ubervamp was able to come up from behind her and snap her neck. Another one punched a hole in Kennedy’s stomach, killing her. Giles and Wood fought hard, but they just weren’t strong enough. They, too, were killed by the ubervamps. Only Buffy, Spike, and Faith remained in the basement. Faith and Buffy kept the remaining ubervamps busy while Spike, wearing the amulet, walked over to the Seal. Suddenly, he screamed as a bright white light shot through his body. The light started to fill the entire room, instantly turning all the remaining ubervamps to dust. The room shook as something was happening to the Hellmouth. The basement was caving in on them all. “Time to go!” Faith shouted, making her way toward the door. “Buffy, come on!”

“No, you go. Don’t worry about us, Faith.”

“B, are you sure? There’s still time.”

“My time was up a long time ago.” Buffy turned away from her and walked over to Spike. He couldn’t move off the Seal. His body was glowing.

Faith watched the two of them for a second, then she turned and left.

“I can feel it, Buffy. So much love and warmth. I’ve never felt anything like it.” Spike was having trouble getting the words out. 

Buffy reached out her hand to his and both of their hands burst into flame. She ignored the pain. “You are my Champion. I love you, Spike. Forever.” Buffy moved closer, wrapping her arms around him. Both of their bodies burst into flame as the basement collapsed around the now-Sealed entrance to the Hellmouth. 

Outside, Faith drove Xander, Dawn, and Andrew away from the school as the entire building collapsed. It wasn’t long before they passed the sign, “You Are Now Leaving Sunnydale, Hope You Had A Nice Stay.”

Author’s Note: This was my version of the Finale arc, based on actual spoilers. The real version that aired didn’t end this way and the characters I chose to live and die were very different. But I hope you enjoyed my version. This was the version I wanted to see. Buffy and Spike together for eternity, or are they? I’m now continuing the story over at Angel Investigations.
