Chapter 48b

_____________________

Buffy, Hyatt, Tara, the smaller Scoobs and Anya tiptoed back to where the the 'Generals; had been gathered.

The vampires were still their, arguing and boasting amongst themselves.

Kalindi sat in her 'throne' of shadows, watching her 'people' as they made ready to disperse.

"We should spread across the country. What is this place called again?" a vampire with an implacable accent asked.

"America" Kalindi grumbled along with a chorus of groans from the gathered evil.

"How long have we been asleep? When I choose to rest the savages of this land sat in their smoke houses and worshiped their gods" A rather large male vampire brustled "Made for easy pickings when they stumbled out after their 'visions' " he chuckled smacking his lips "But whatever that smoke was made their blood so sweet"

There was scattered laughter.

"Nearly 500 years" Kalindi informed him "I myself have been sleeping for nearly a thousand. My Seer has had to 'update' me to this new era. With it's 'automobiles' and it's 'machines'." Kalindi sighed "It's all very confusing"

"I want to see this new world" a female vampire purred as she approached the reclining Kalindi "Though our youngest have not returned from their nights of play, I wish to experience this. When do we go?"

"Tonight" Kalindi assured her, sweetness dripping in her voice like viper venom "And tomorrow the 'true' ancients will rise"

"And this world will fall" the hissing voice finished for her.

Jeanie continued to advance on Mycah, taking one threatening step at a mediate pace, she was slowly bacing the weakened woman into a wall.

"Jeanie snap out of it. Jean, stop!" Mycah forced her voice to sound firm, not the fearful trill that wanted to come out. The little girl was scaring her.

"Why? This is fun. This game of cat and mo" a " a singsong voice rose from behind her.

Mycah spun and scrambled away from the form the melted from the shadows.

Kalindi's Seer stood before her, grinning like a mad hatter.

"She's such a pretty thing, so much power. So many things she can do for us" Naida continued as she too advanced on Mycah, pushing the woman into a corner between herself and Jean. Mycah had unknowingly been dragging herself towards an exit. Naida was bubbling with glee inside, waiting for the right moment for the girl to realize she was but a breath from freedom.

Jean stopped advancing, turning her glowing eyes on Naida, waiting for an order.

"Their's no hope for you now sweet thing" Naida made the endearment into a taunt, kicking the rotted floor at Mycah as her energy fell drastically when she knew she was trapped.

"Don't need hope" Mycah growled though she was growing weaker "Got Faith"

"Into the night my friends. Go into the night" Kalindi laughed as the vampires gathered before her began to stand glance around themselves. Suddenly they were asailed with the powerful scent of freedom.

Fresh night air was filtering in from somewhere. It was so close. Freedom was within their grasps. They just needed to find it.

They began cheering, giving out howls of glee, screams of sweet anguish, and something that sounded strangely like the mating call of certain types of gorilla's.

Well that's what was going through Dawn's mind. She was suddenly upset that she'd paid that much attention in Zoology.

A general cry of complete joy startled the hiding group out of their stupor.

A vampire had found where the fresh air was leaking in from.

An escape hatch had been built into the masoleum that they'd ascended from.

Buffy began to panic as the vampires crawled into the rough hole. There were so many, way too much to engage in a battle down here. But she couldn't let them reach the surface.

Suddenly the choice was completely out of her hands.

Tara had stepped around the bend they'd been hidden behind, and began to cast.

Buffy in no way knew latin. But the final word of the chant explained itself.

"Illuminatum" Tara's voice carried strong as she forcefully drew power into herself to make the spell stronger. Tara's natural power was something she often worked with. She preferred not to draw strength from the things around them. She felt she was stealing their life-force.

Right now she had no such qualm.

The spell took immediately. The cave around them lit up with the light of the sun. And for the first time since it was created, the dirt floor of the maze of caves beneath Sunnydale, saw the light of the midday sun.

Xander, Faith, Willow and Kole reached, the chamber of the Lanbrynth Kalindi had hidden their missing members in.

In fact the arrived in time to hear Mycah's comment about having 'faith'.

"Hell yeah you do" the darker slayer growled as she stepped into the drastically dim room.

Naida spun in surprise. Mycah smirked, but Jeanie merely turned her blank, black gaze to her family.

"Oh my god what'd you do to her?" Willow gasped in surprise when she saw the cold empty gaze of the once boisterous child.

"Whatever I wanted" Naida sneered as Xander lunged for her angrily.

The attack was brought up short as the dark halls of the Labrynth lit with a powerful light.

Temporary they were left blinded and a bit off balance.

Unfortunately Naida recovered first. Grabbing Jeanie she fled through yet another hidden exit, heading straight up.

As their eyes readjusted they realized they were two people short.

"Fuck, she took her" Xander grumbled as he squeezed the cross he held in his hand tighter.

Faith and Willow rushed to Mycah's side, helping the darker girl to her unsteady feet. Kole hung back, standing behind Xander with her tiny hand over her mouth.

"This is a bad dream" she thought to herself as the feeling of deja vu swept through her.

"How'd she get away so fast?" Willow whined as she supported Mycah's weight.

"Up there" Kole choked out as her eyes leaked tears of fear "Pull the torch"

Reaching to his left Xander pulled on the torch, not really thinking that the girl was right. But when part of the roof of the cave slid out of place to reveal a room above them he simply stared in wonder.
__________________________

Kalindi roughly pulled Naida up through the floor, grabbing the complient form of the child out of her arms, and tugging her along as she fled.

She had been lucky enough to duck behind her throne when the blonde witch had began the oh so familiar chant of a light spell. But over 1/3 of her Generals were now dust, and the slayer was in their midst.

When the Seer stumbled at the rapid pace she was keeping Kalindi merely swept her into her arms and carried both the Seer and the child through the caves beneath the cemetery.

As she came from complete dark to well lit tunnels she paused. She hadn't ordered the torches to be The Then she realized the fire that lit them was glowing a brilliant blue.

"No" she growled when she recognized the witches spell completely "Not again"

Not only had Tara's spell lit the tunnels briefly with light, but it had lit every torch in the place. Giving her no shadows to hide in.

Taking a deep uneeded breath she focused herself and cast a spell of her own.

As the three of them melted into the very shadows she commanded, Kalindi took off, as nothing more then a blur of black against a wall.
__________________________

Tara reeled at the power her spell had shown. She normally wasn't anywhere near that strong.

They entered the room to find piles of dust everywhere. Coating that ground in layers in some places.

"Damn" Hyatt breath as she saw the carnage Tara had created with a simple light spell "Maybe we were wrong about the whole 'Sect of Shadows having an aversion to light' thing"

"Now this is serious dust" Dawn chuckled.

Suddenly Faith's head popped up behind a small table set near the wall not feet from them.

They all jumped in surprise as Mycah was lifted from beneath the table, followed by the rest of Xander's team.

"We got Mycah, but the bitch took off with my- Jeanie" Xander growled as Anya threw herself at him.

"She went in that general direction" Buffy pointed to a pitch black shaft that was dug into the wall "Cause she didn't come through there" she nodded in the direction they'd entered.

They call carefully made their way through the fissure, only to stand in a pitch dark that had no true direction.

"How do we track her if we can't see? We lost our guide demon somewhere between Tara's spell and now" Hyatt grumbled.

"Tara did all that?" Faith and Willow squeaked at the same time.

Tara blushed though no one could see her.

"I think 'that' might be of some help" Kole's voice came through the darkness as a tiny light appeared near them.

It bobbed happily in the air. It was familiar to the two witches. What with it being the 'Tinkerbell' spell they often used.

"Am I the only one who's really happy we all know that spell?" Buffy queried to the dark.

"Oh hell no" Xander said quickly.

Briefly they stumbled over each other as the followed the bobbing light. That hopey woy would lead them to Jean.
_____________________

Kalindi returned to her flesh form as they drew closer to the exit of the caves. She was losing her strength. She was always more powerful down in her Labrynth. Her shadows feeding off the completely dark the underground caves provided. But as she neared the topsoil, the dark became, well, not as dark.

Placing both girl non too gently to the ground she rested. Naida seemed shaken at, for a while, having been nothing more than a living shadow. And moving at an incredible speed.

But the use of Kalindi's skill had drained the vampire. She sat leaning against the rough cave wall, trying to gather enough strength to stand.

Jean lay flat on the dirt, her back to both of them as her black eyes, flickered from gray to brown. Kalindi didn't realize her use of the abyss (becoming a shadow) had weakened the hold the black magic had on the girl. The abyss had no true form, briefly taking away the control the demon had over the child.

And with Kalindi being so weak, that control only slipped furtherh eah each passing minute.

The Seer gained her feet, rushing to her Mistress.

But Jeanie lay still, fighting with all that was within her, to uphold the spell that would lead her family out of the dark.

"We have to keep moving. Get the girl" Kalindi commanded when Naida drew closer.

The Seer immediately grabbed the child.

Jeanie feigned unconsciousness, leaving her body slack as she was roughly handled.

Kalindi somehow stood under her own power and stumbled closer to the open night.

"We must reach the Resting Chamber. We'll awaken the Elders tonight. They might be weakened. But atleast some of them will survive to uphold our plan"

Naida silently nodded.

They both took off at a dead run.
___________________________

The Scoobies had long since entered the part of the caves that had the blue flamed torches burning brightly. They'd come across several piles of dust, but no vampires had appeared.

"Tara I'm seriously loving this spell" Buffy informed the taller blonde as she stepped over yet another pile of dust. She'd began counting them silently when they'd reached the lighted area. But she'd lost count somehwere in the mid forties.

Tara gave one of her patented half grins to the slayer as the quickly made their way through the tunnels.

"I smell something" Faith said as she nearly bumped into Buffy.

"Me too" the blonde slayer sniffed delicately "We're almost above ground!"

Mycah looked up from where she rested in Faith's arms. She met her daughters frightened eyes and wondered once again what was going on with her.

"They're waking them up!" Kole screeched startling them all "They're waking them up!" she said before taking off like a shot, Star and Dawn only steps behind her.

"What the-" Anya caught herself though there were no children to hear her.

Buffy, Tara and Hyatt where ho the the younger girls' heels as the followed the light that had sped up when Kole did.

Xander and Anya weren't far behind, Willow and Faith bringing up the rear as the darker slayer effortlessly carried her injured lover through the increasingly smoother and cleaner tunnels.

What they came upon they'd never believe, if they hadn't seen it with their own eyes.
____________________________________

Jeanie stood before a large silver bowl, set into a three legged stand in the middle of a dusty crypt. A strange silver smoke wafted up from the simmering bowl.

Kalindi stood close behind the girl, her Seer wrapped in her arms as she slowly allowed the girls blood to drip to the dirty floor.

Jeanie's eyes were black once again, her arms flowing gracefully as she chanted in a language so old the civilization that had created it had risen and fallen before the written word.

And from her black eyes, dripping tears of blood. Flowing down her baby soft cheeks, to fall into the chalice she stood before.

Kalindi released Naida, the Seer stumbled before making her way off to the side. Her part was done. Her human blood given willingly.

Xander didn't think but merely acted. He lunged forward, knocking over the chalice as the spewed forth a rather bad smelling red smoke. His momentum carried him into Jeanie who fell to the side as he continued on to Kalindi.

Wrapping his strong hands around the vampires neck he squeezed.

Kalindi however, rode with her momentum and dropped to the floor, gracefully pld hed her foot against his chest as he followed her down, and porpelling into into the door of the masoluem. His raw bulk pushed into harshly into it, then through it and into the open night.

As the women stood stunned they noticed some the the General vampires standing just outside the door.

They looked down a Xander then at the people inside tombtomb in confusion.

"If this is how the young behave in this new age, I do believe I'm going to enjoy it" and exotic sounding voice crept to them from outside.

If they hadn't feen stunned or completely fearful, one of them would have found it funny.

Inside Anya suddenly realized that Xander had stopped the awakening spell "Uh shouldn't we be staking those nasty vampires now?"

The Scoobies turned to look at the ex-demon in surprise.

Anya shrugged as she met Tara's gray eyes.

Wait...

Gray eyes?

Tara didn't have 'gray' eyes!

Anya turned to tell this newfound glory to Willow.

Only to find that redheaded witches eyes were gray as well.

As were Buffy's and Hyatt's.

Something strange was going on.

But she didn't have time to dwell on the thought.

Her words had kicked in.

All four girls ran from the tomb, attacking the stunned vampires.

Leaving Anya, Danw and Faith- who still carried an injured Mycah- to deal with Jeanie.

And one powerful Master Vampiress.
_____________________

The vampires scattered after the girls vacated the tomb. After a cursory look at Xander to make sure he was okay, they gave chase.

Buffy followed several up a steep incline. Well they didn't name the Cemetery Muriel 'Hill's because it was flat.

Halfway up she got fed up with struggling. Crouching low she jumped, her legs sent her hurdling into the air over the heads of the fleeing vampires. She landed neatly before them, allowing one to run into her stake.

"Well that was anticlimatic" she muttered as vam vamp turned to dust with a surprised look.

Three leapt on her at once. The first grabbed her head, intent on simply ripping it off her shoulders.

But when the vampire touched her, his hands began to melt into dust. Then his arms, up to his shoulders until it reached his heart.

Then he just kinda...well popped.

With a 'poof' he was gone, but his screams of agony rippled across Muriel Hills. Making the other vampires wonder what had made sa poa powerful evil force, scream like a little girl with a bee sting.

Buffy made quick work of the other two, staking them while they stood transfixed by what had just happened.

Strangely it didn't phase her.

Brushing herself off she headed in the direction Hyatt had taken.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The vampires Tara had chased after vanished into the tree's. She paced outside the tiny grove for a moment, unsure wether or not it was smart to follow.
Then a rather 'burly' vampire came acreening out, landing on his back at her feet.
Tara cocked a brow as she looked down at him.
"Burn" she said simply.
His body caught fire, the flames engulfed his heart, and before he could scream, he was turned to ash.
Tara looked curiously into the pitch black grove, wondering what could have thrown such a large vampire out of his ass.
Her silent question was answered when a screeching female vampire was carried out. Clutched in the hands of no less then seven Vopus demons.
The little green demons dropped the struggling vampire at her feet, holding down her flailing arms as she hissed and spit at them like a cat.
She paused in her attacks when she realized that a human stood above her.
She met the calm gray eyes of the blonde witch and froze "You. I know your eyes" the vampires voice softened as she projected her thrall.
Tara stared softly down at her. Something inside recognized the vampire for who she had been before she was turned.
"The concubine. A shame" the blonde entoned letting the woman know that her thrall had failed. She smiled sadly and drove the stake into her heart.
The little demons stepped aside as the vampire dust settled. They looked up at Tara in surprise, their large glowing eyes round in amazement.
"What?" the blonde asked staring back.
In unison they shook their scaly heads before scampering back into the tree's.
"Easy as pie" Tara smirked and waited for the next vampire to delivered.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

When the vampires punch connected solidly with Willow's stomach she flew back several feet, hitting a tree back first.

The loud splintering crash had assured the vampires that the annoying with redhead was dead. The loved the sound of cracking bones.

But when Willow stood up again, shaking off the deadly hit, it gave them pause.

"What is this?" the hissing voice screamed.

Willow turned to find none other than Alito floating in the air near her.

"Illunimatum" she screamed thrusting her hands out tos ths the living shadow. She wasn't sure if the light spell would hurt him or not, but she had to try.

All the vampires screamed as once again the midday sun appeared in the dead of night.

The six painfilled screams melted into one single cry of immense pain. Because Alito was the only vampire left fighting. And even he was seriously injured.

His dark form rolled across the moist soil of the cemetery, trying to put out the blue flames that engulfed his wings. His frantic efforts to put out the flames brought him dangerously close to Willow, who backed up into the tree.

The ominous 'crack' startled them both.

But the earlier screams had drawn them an audience.

Willow turned back from the tree to find nine new vampires watching her. THeir golden gazes drifting from Alito and back to her.

"This isn't good" she muttered under her breath as several of them took menacing steps towards her.

But the big surprise were the screams of surprise and pain the new vampires were letting out. A small green horde appeared from behind headstones, and masoleums, hurling small globs at them. When the tiny globs connected with the vampires skin it sizzled like holy water.

Then Willow realized that the river of ever so helpful Vopus demons where hurling their own feces. Which was high in the 'ick' factor.

The -rather nasty- attack was pushing the vampires closer to her. SHe backed up anotehr step and the tree gave another ominous 'crack' when she backed into it. Then she got the idea. Going to the opposite side of the tree she started pushing on it, and too her surprise it gave way easy, and the medium sized tree tiled over. THe sounds of splintering wood filled the air, barely heard over the screams from the gathered vampires.

And the tree came down upon their heads, dusting most of them. The ones that were lucky enough to dodge the tree, met an angry mob of Vopus demons.

Willow watched the tiny green demons rips the vampires to shreds. Momentarily she wondered about the safety of actually keeping one of those as a pet. But Orangi had never acted anything like these ones.

Alito lay still on the ground. Willow was kinda pissed he wasn't dust yet. Crossing to the slightly moaning form, she noticed that where his wings had once connecting with his body, were now two lines of glowing embers.

"You will die for this witch" Alito hissed at her.

Willow said nothing, casting a tiny sunspell, she gathered the magical light in her hand. And promptly shoved it down his throat.

Forced to swallow he began to scream, as the suns light touched him. From the inside out. He burst into flames, light flaring briefly before dying down.

Where he once lay were now live embers, smoldering before turning to ash.

Shrugging, she moved on.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hyatt found herself on the winning side of a vamp fight. Kicking and swinging she was hitting one of the undead with every move. Knicking them into each other, and staking those that fell or stumbled she made her way through the rather powerful ranks.
She knew something was different. Fatima's training had built firm muscle, but there was no way it had built muscle strong enough to kick the head off a vampire.
She watched as the head made a graceful arc before turning into dust in mid-air. The four vampires watched in startled fascination.
"Are you the slayer?" a gorgeous blonde haired vampire asked as his gameface faltered and fell.
"No" Hyatt smirked "Just your's" and through her stake into his heart. It flew straight through, dusting him instantly and embedded itself into the eye of the vampire behind him.
"Bloody fucking hell woman. Why is it your keep hurting me before I can kill you?" Spike snarled as he ripped the stake painfully from his eye socket.
"Just lucky I guess" Hyatt quipped ignoring Spike for the last two Generals. The Generals were old, one was a woman, her hair gray and wavy, as it fell down her back.
"Your luck has just run out" the vampire informed her. Raising her hand, open palm up, she smiled an evil smile. Slowly she closed her fingers, tenting them gracefully above her palm "Gather"
The very shadows on the night, the darkest of the dark, gathered to her. Sliding across the ground, from where the light of the moon cast them, they came as they were called, to the vampire "Fly" the woman hissed.
The gathered darformformed itself. Gathering into a giant ball of shadow before sprouting massive wings, stretching into a short but graceful neck, and stubby looking legs. The ball became a 15ft shadow crow.
"Neat trick" Spike commented from his spot a bit to the vampires left.
The woman turned to look at him. Only to frown her face up at the grotesque mutilation of his face. Not only had his eye been destroyed, and the matter now dripping down his face. But his actual face was burned. The skin rough and shiny, his hair burnt completely away. She shuddered, not having seen anything so ugly since she ran across a Pus demon in her early undead life.
The crow took off into the night. It's giant wings bringing a great wind that knocked them all off their feet.
The male vamp gained his t, lt, leaping at Hyatt who kicked up in time to take the hit to her chest. She fell back down again, bringing the vampire with her. He landed flat on top of her, ready to bite only to realize that he'd impaled himself on the stake she still held.
Closing her mouth and eyes briefly, she rose through the blowing dust. Keeping an eye on the sky she made her way to the female.
The vampiress hissed at her much like a cat, and bared her sharp claw-like nails. Hyatt kicked her in the chest hard. She flew several feet straight back, hitting Spike to went with her backwards momentum. They hit a dead tree, atomizing it on impact, sending a bad smelling saw dust into the air.
As they gained their feet they noticed Hyatt casting a few yards away. They dust in the air around them suddenly changed direction, gathering speed into the crashed into them, like a million tiny dead wood stakes, ripping them to shreds.
Buffy and Willow both caught up with Hyatt to see her spell take out two vampires at once.
"Was that Spike?" Buffy asked with a frown.
"Yep" Hyatt turned and gave her lover a kiss.
"I wanted to kill him" The blonde pouted.
"Oh I'm sorry sweetie, you can kill the next vamp that pisses me off" Hyatt gave her a smile.
"Okay" Buffy gave a half smile of her own "Now lets find Tara"
________________________
They met Tara back the masoleum. She stood in the still open doorway, Xander at her side, watching what was happening within.
Faith grappled with Kalindi, forcing the vampire further away from Jeanie, who sat rocking herself in the middle of the tomb.
Kalindi shoved Faith from her, sending the slayer fumbling for her balance. It was long enough for her to call her shadows.
The shadows formed a cat, large and menacing with glowing red eyes. It took a swipe at Faith, who thankfully had gained her balance and managed to duck out of the way.
But not fast enough.
The cats shadow claws ripped through the leather of her jacket and the fabric of her shirt, narrowly missing her skin.
As the cat coiled to attack again a streamlined shadow came at it. Wrapping it's serpentine self around the form, it squeezed, both the shadow cat and Kalindi hissed in pain. The pain was disorienting enough for Kalindi's hold on the shadow to fail. The cat vanished.
Hyatt then remembered the giant bird that had flown off. Then she relaxed, the bird would have been destroyed when it's creator was dusted.
But the vampires attentions then turned to Mycah, who sat huddled in a corner, using all her strength to keep hold of her own shadow serpent.
Before she could take more than two menacing steps towards the injured girl everyone was once again inside the masoleum.
Dawn, Star and Kole had been hiding in the fissure that let to the caves. Now the scampered out, curling themselves around Mycah's shivering form. Dawn and Star huddled close to Mycah, checking her over to serious injuries, but Kole's cold stare was directed at Kalindi.
"Oh the little girl that see's too much" Kalindi said visciously as she took yet another step towards them "You are a pain in my ass"
Kole's eyes narrowed. The room suddenly began to vibrate, then bed and distort slightly as if a shockwave were passing through it. As the distortion touched Kalindi and Naida, they both screamed.
The Seer simply vanished in it's onslaught, but the vampire fell to the ground, landing in the spilled contents of the chalice.
When the wave passed through Jeanie she stopped rocking, the glow in her eyes grew dimmer and she stood. Her head dropped down, when she raised it to meet Xander's eyes, her's were the matching brown to his.
"I'm falling" Jeanie said, her voice standing small "It's so dark" her head shook violent, her fists clenched so tight her own nails drew blood from her palms. When she raised her eyes again they glowed. Black that flickered to gray then back again. Then she began to sing in a perfect mockery of Drusilla.
'Here we go, the world is spinning,
when it stops, it's just beginning.
comecomes up, we laugh and we cry
sun goes down, and then we all die.'
Kole gave out a plainative wail, slamming her fists into the ground. The floor of the masoleum began to glow, giving the enclosure an etheral light. A wall of glowing colors made it's way through the fissure to the caves, and identical wall made it's way through the door. As the walls began to glide slowly towards each other.
The Scoobies stood frozen in place, unable to do anything aside from stare at the action enfolding between the two children.
Jeanie faced off at Kole, her eyes steadily flickering from black to gray then back again. Kole stoon firm, her eyes angry as the walls passed through her, and the Scoobies. When it drew closer to Jeanie she moved closer to Kalindi, careful not the lee whe white flashing lights of the glow connect with her body.
"Give it up" she commanded the younger girl "She is mine" she hissed at Kole.
The vampires body lay still in the spilled chalice liquid, she didn't move at all. It was then that Kole realized whatever was left of Kalindi, was inside her friend. And she wanted it out.
Now.
___________________________
Buffy watched at the walls stopped, closing Jeanie and the vampiress inside them. The girl hissing something to Kole, who simply looked angrier.
Suddenly the walls vanished and all was still. The glow the walls had brought still moved about the masoleum, casting a cocaphony of colors against the mortar stones. Then the wind picked up. The colors that had been flickering and flowing over the stone walls became a cyclone.
At first in blew everything around, then it just seemed to close around Jeanie and the unconscious vanpiress.
"I can't do this" Kole screamed above the howling wind. Inside the funnel of the magical storm, Jeanie snarled and hissed at the bright colored lights tsurrsurrounded "Xander you have to"
The young man stood stunned for a moment "I have to what?"
"Call to her. She needs you" Mycah's voice screamed above her daughters "Jeanie has to fight whatever's controlling her. She has to 'want' to be free"
Dawn,ll cll clutching Orangi to her chest, slowly began to drag Mycah, with Star's help, around the masoleum towards the door.
Faith moved to help her.
Kole stood rooted to her spot, her eyes never leaving the cyclone. As they moved behind her, their presence touched, and the cyclone grew brighter.
Jeanie snarled louder, and Xander snapped out is dis daze. Grabbing Anya he helped to drag Mycah out of the masoleum.
"Call to her An, I'll be right back" he whispered as he hefted Mycah into his arms.
Anya turned to look at the child who stood snarling inside the vortex of color "Jeanie? Sweetie, I know you're in there.
Xander deposited Mycah in Faith's weakened arms, making sure they were well away from the masoleum with the kids before turning back.
Anya stepped closer, careful not to get too close to the funnels clockwise flowing winds "Jeanie I've missed you. Especially your hugs"
"Jeanie?" Xander joined stepping up behind Anya "Sweetie we need you to come home. We need you with the family"
The child jerked spastically, falling to her knees, her back still too them.
"Jean, you 'have' to come home. If you don't whose gonna tease Xander about his whining? And make him do the Snoopy dance?" Anya asked tears flowing freely from her eyes "He won't do the Snoopy dance for me. And Willow doesn't ask anymore"
Slowly Jean regained her feet, turning to them, her eyes cast down.
"Who's gonna eat ice cream for breakfast with me? And dip fudge brownies in coffee? But you shouldn't have coffee, I heard it stunts your growth. Do you wanna be tall like Xander? Cause Buffy's kinda short. Maybe she had too much coffee" Anya, quirky as ever, thought outloud.
"Hey I'm not short, I just have small bones" the slayers pouted from the door.
\youryour short" Anya said without turning.
"Are not" Buffy argued.
"Are" Anya caught back.
"Nuh uh" Buffy crossed her arms and fixed a fierce pout on her face.
"Yes huh" Anya stole Jeanie's own phrase.
The little girl laughed.
She laughed so hard, her curly brown hair shook, tossing the already helter skelter strands into massive disarray.
She looked up at them, her eyes were brown, flickering to black, then gray, then brown again.
"You're y" y" she laughed holding her s.
s.
Kole stumbled as the cyclone's winds turned the other direction. She fell to the ground, breathing hard.
"Sorry Kole" Jeanie apologized to the girl, she now stood in a cyclone of her own making "It's my fight now"
Tara darted to Kole, lifting her in her arms she ran from the masoleum, depositing her with the rest, a good distance away.
When she returned, it was to see Jeanie still inside the cyclone, her hands fisted and eyes closed as she fought within herself. The occasional word breaking the loug barrier of sound the cyclone created.
"Get out" she grumbled "I wanna go home"
She began to pull at her clothes, stretching the dirty fabric of her shirt, pushing at her demin pants and shaking her head.
The vampires body gave a twitch.
"Fight it Jean. You can do it. I know you can, Buffy taught you to fight remember?" Xander tried one last time "You pinned her down and tickled her, she almost wet herself"
"Hey" the blonde slayer mumbled betting embarassed.
"If you can beat the slayer, Whats one little vampire gonna do?" Xander ignored Buffy's grumbling.
Kalindi's body twitched again. Jeanie's when erect.
As if pushing against a great force her palms stood flat out. She moved her hands away from her body as if she were pushing something heavy before her.
From where Anya and Xander stood, they could see a symetrical shadow pushing against the girls hands.
"Leave me alone" Jeanie screamed as the shadow let loose.
The cyclone vanished as Jeanie was forcefully propelled backwards. The shadow melted down into the body of the vampire.
Xander caught her before she could land painfully on the stone floor. He took Anya's hand and pulled her from the masoleum.
_____________________________
Kalindi was just gaining her bearings. She didn't think the child could have ever repelled her presence from her form. She had once again, underestimated a psychic.
"That actually hurt" she quipped as she'd heard the slayer and her friends do.
"Yeah. And it was fun to watch" Buffy giggled at she, Hyatt, Willow and Tara boxed the vampiress in.
"Yes, you watched as children fought your battles"indiindi taunted "And you call yourself a slayer"
"No" Buffy shrugged.
"They fought their own battles" Hyatt added.
"And we're about to fight ours" Tara whispered.
"And that battle is-" Willow continued.
"You" they all said in unison.
Outside the huddled group checked each other over to injuries.
Jeanie's body seemed completely unharmed, but she had yet to regain consciousness.
Mycah fought bravely not to lose her own, while Faith merely held her tightly in her arms, across her lap. Kole clutched them both.
Out of the cemetery the Vopus demons appeared. Hundreds of them made their way towards the resting friends.
Without a word they all simply settled around them, their eyes watching the night, staring into the masoleum. They joined the Scoobies as they waited for their powerful friends to join them. And for theiren ten to awaken.
"This will be the last time you try this" Buffy growled, her gray eyes angry "This Hellmouth is gonna close"
"You can try" Kalindi taunted. She knew she couldn't win. But it didn't mean she couldn't take the slayer down with her "I will always try again"
"Not if your dead" Willow piped up "We plan on you being dust. So 'no' you 'won't' be trying again"
"But I'm trying now" Kalindi said before laughing. The vampiress was ancient, her age granting her skills that the council had yet to document. As much as the stuffy old men thought they knew, they knew very little.
"Good riddance slayer, and all your friendly demons" Kalindi said spreading her arms "Envele"
A cold presence swept through them, momentarily rippling the air around them, before moving on outside the tomb.
Kalindi's joyous laughter wasn't something they found to be a good thing. Before she could think twice, Buffy staked her.
As the vampiress turned to dust, her haunting laugh still flowed through the night, sending shivers down the spine of everyone in Sunnydale, as it carried unnaturally through the night.
The group outside were shaken at the insane laughter that was emitted from the masoleum. A happy vampire was never a good thing.
When the inside of the tomb, with had still held the glow of both Kole and Jeanie's spells, went completely black they were startled. But when that pitch began to leak out into the open night they truly panicked, though it vanished moments after it was seen flowing.
That's when the shaking started.
"Earthquake!" Faith leapt to her feet, Mycah in her arms and Kole clutching her leg.
Dawn jumped up as well, unsettling Orangi and waking her. The startled demon leapt from her arms, which freed Dawn to get a good hold on Star.
As holes in the ground appeared the demons began to jump into them, vanishing down into the earth.
"What are they doing?" Faith yelled above the din of the shaking earth.
No one could answer her, all of them being too busy trying to stay on their feet and away from falling debris.
As suddenly as it began the shaking stopped.
THey looked around themselves, everything seemed to be in place, save for a few fallen trees and the occasional hole.
"Oh god no" Dawn whimpered as she saw the masoleum.
The roof and the from wall had caved in. And the four girls weren't anywhere in sight.
Placing their loved ones down Xander and Faith rushed to the partially collapsed building. Tossing fallen mortar away, they dug through the broken stones. After minutes of finding nothing they began to dispair. They'd gotten so far. Winning the fight, they couldn't lose them now.
Anya spent so much on presents!
A blue light began to shine through the stones near the back. Faith saw it first pulling Xander away as the stones began to move on their own.
They'd just made it clear when the debris was blasted completely away. The four girls stood on shaky , br, brushing themselves off as they made their way to open ground.
They stood infront of the rest of the Scoobs, looking worse for the wear.
"That kinda hurt" Willow whined.
Then together they all collapsed. Falling to the ground around each other, a silver mist rose from their mouths, the four strands of it wrapped around each other in mid air, before shooting into the sky.
Then Buffy, Hyatt, Willow and Tara, stopped breathing.
