The Blossoming Dawn--Chapter Five
He shouldn’t be doing this he knew it was horrible and wrong—obsessive, but he followed her. Followed his Nibblet and her date, some goofy boy he hated to the theatre.
Spike waited outside chain-smoking anxious and impatient for them to come back out.
They finally emerged and he heard the goofy little boy ask her if he could walk her home.
He felt anger, jealousy as he followed them, they made awkward conversation and he smiled.
Maybe the date hadn’t gone so well, maybe his little bit wasn’t interested. He silently hoped and felt a tinge of guilt for wishing that her first date wouldn’t be great.
They walked on and he followed gritting his teeth, then he clenched his fists and growled low in his throat as he watched the boy grab his Dawnie and kiss her.
He hoped she would angry and tell him she could walk the rest of the way home by herself, but when the boy pulled away. He heard clear as a bell her thanking the boy and then blushing.
He growled he knew she must of felt embarrassed and part of him hoped the boy would laugh and show himself for the jerk he must be.
But he didn’t the boy smiled and replied, saying something just as naïve and awkward and Spike wanted to thrash him. The urge to do so only grew when he told Dawn that it had been his first kiss. He was probably lying playing the sweet, shy boy act so he could get at Dawn.
He stopped when he heard the boy ask Dawn for another date and prayed she would say no. Prayed she would crush him and reject him, tell him she didn’t want to start dating yet.
He followed them seething with rage as Dawn confessed to the boy that it had been her first kiss too.
He growled once more wishing he could have the joy of pressing his lips to hers. He sighed as she agreed to another date and they neared her house.
He watched sadly from the shadows as she kissed the boy and smiled telling him she’d see him in school. And rage and jealousy surged through him. He had a powerful urge to snap the little bloke’s neck so that he could never get another date with Dawn, but he couldn’t.
He knew it would hurt Dawn and he could never do that. He could never hurt his little Nibblet, his precious little goddess from above.
He smiled wistfully and felt the urge he often did.
He obeyed it and once again and stood by her window and peeped up inside watching her jump up and down excitedly, then he saw her slide a pink book from underneath her mattress. He had to smile at the cute naivete of it all---she was going to write in her diary.
He turned away to leave, then smiled an even worse need—an even worse urge coming into his head that he couldn’t suppress.
He had to get a hold of it, had to see what his Dawnie really thought about. He had to know if he would ever have a chance with her. His little bit.
