Chapter Five
“Oh God Tara.” Xander gasped on entering the room, and then his gaze was drawn to the same place as Giles’, “God. Willow.”.
Xander ran across the room and dragged Willow off of the wolfed form of Oz. “Buffy, keep Dawn out of here,” he ordered as he fought against Willows frantic scrambling to get back to Oz.
“Giles! Help me?” Xander shouted at a shocked Giles, who had frozen to the spot when he’d seen exactly what Willow had been doing.
With Xander slightly distracted Willow spoke a few words in Latin and Xander found himself sprawled against the opposite wall.
“Got to make him love me. If he doesn’t love me he can never feel the pain.” Willow told Xander and then walked back across to Oz to continue where she’d left off.
Quickly regaining his composure Xander, along with Giles this time, grabbed Willow again and pinned her to the floor. Giles backed off and spoke a single word in Latin.
A glowing circle appeared round Willow, binding her arms to her side and allowing Xander to stand up knowing that she was restrained. Willow still thrashed about the floor though, screaming incoherently at the two of them.
“Don’t stop me. Don’t stop. He has to pay. He has to know the pain. He needs to love me and then when I die he’ll feel this pain.” Willow shrieked when she could finally get words out.
“Who will?” Giles asked as soothingly as possible and then turned his eyes to the wardrobe to see the wolf changing back into human form. A look of shock passed across both Giles and Xanders’ faces as they saw the figure of Oz now lying there beaten and bruised by Willow, his hands still bound by her spell.
“Wait. What? How?” Was all Xander could manage to make his mouth say no matter how many other words he tried to get out.
“You think you can stop me?” Willow asked, looking at Xander and Giles. In the matter of seconds Willow had turned from a shrieking wreck into someone very composed and very much in control of themselves, almost as if they were two different people. “Your magic is nothing compared to mine. You have no idea of the power that I contain within this shell.” Willow looked at Oz before she continued. “And he must pay. Tara’s death would have meant nothing to me if he hadn’t driven me into her arms. He must feel the pain of the death of someone he loves.”
Dawning came to Xander and Giles at the same moment, both knowing they could never let that happen.
“Willow,” Giles started, “listen to me. You have got to let go of the magic, it’s distorting your thinking.”.
“No,” Willow said forcefully, “Willow sought out the magics so that this could happen, this is her will. This is what Willow wants.”.
Giles was still being very wary even though Willow was bound even more extremely than she had bound Oz. He knew she still had a great deal of magic at her disposal. And in her last statement realised that the magics had taken control, and that Willow had let them.
“If Willow truly wants to join Tara then let her by her own free will.” Giles told her.
“No!” Shouted both Willow and Xander.
“How can you even think that?” Xander asked him.
“Let me handle this Xander.” Giles chastised him, “Willow has got to understand exactly what she’s doing.”.
“This is what I want.” Willow told them, “My revenge must be taken. Oz must feel this pain, without it there is nothing.”.
Pulling himself up by the railing Oz tried to stand to his full height before speaking.
“Then there is nothing,” he gasped, “my heart could only ever belong to one person and no matter how much you look and sound like the Willow I love, I could never love you.”
“No.” Willow screamed at him, “You must love me.”.
“You aren’t Willow,” Oz said, struggling to keep himself upright almost as if the act of speaking was too great an effort for him, “and my heart belongs to her.”.
At this confession from Oz, Willow curled up into herself as much as she could in the magical restraint, quietly sobbing as she finally faced the truth that nothing could fill the gap left by Tara’s death.
