Spike woke to the unusual feeling of being warm and held.
With a start he realized that he was still in Xanders bed with Xander wrapped around him. He could tell that the boy was still asleep by his heartbeat. Knowing that the boy hadn’t slept well since they had lost Buffy he decided to lay quietly till Xander showed signs of waking on his own.
Meanwhile he went over what Xander had told him the night before.
From what he understood the boy had uncontrollable heightened senses was able to hold his own in a fight and could translate languages that the watcher couldn’t or could but was to busy working on the ones the others couldn’t read.
(Why didn’t they tell me?) Spike thought sadly (I’ve fought by there side for long enough to prove that I’m one of them now. Even if I got this dame chip out I wouldn’t hurt them. Of course they don’t know that.)
Something about the heightened senses was niggling at Spike.
Being a vampire he had perfect recall on his memories if he chose to. Closing his eyes he slowly started to meditate in an attempt to recall where he had heard about them.
A memory rose to the surface of his mind. He was in a room with Dru and Angelus. Dru was playing with a china doll one he knew she had broken two years after he had got it for her from a master craftsman in London in 1910 or thereabouts. Angelus was reading in a chair by the fire and he was sitting with a book on the chaislange. He could remember the books title ‘Sentinels of the Paraguay’. A lord or some thing wrote it if his memory was correct. He could remember that it spoke about heightened senses in humans. He and Angelus had discussed the fact that it was either a work of fiction or a half demon that the lord had found Angelus was quite adamant about the fact that humans didn’t have heightened senses.
(Looks like the almighty poof was wrong again don’t it.) Spike smirked at the thought.
So now he had a name of a book that could hold the answers to Xanders problems with his senses. That was good. Now all they had to do was find a copy. It would be about one hundred years old so the Watcher would have to contact specialist bookshops to find a copy but it was a start.
