Chapter Five
And she didn’t have to wait long.
Faith was standing at her locker in the deserted hallway, the school was out, and everyone seemed to be outside, waiting for their respective rides, cars, limos were coming in and going out, so here she was leisurely putting her books away and grabbed a different backpack that she had brought to school out of the locker, as she shrugged on her jacket, footsteps were coming closer.
In an empty hallway with only din noise from the outside, normal footsteps sounded so loud in Faith’s ear, echoing off the walls and metal lockers aligning them, Faith didn’t bother looking, she felt it, knowing even before the sound started, who it was that headed this way.
She waited.
Kathryn Merteuil came to a stop beside her, and the tall brunette closed her locker.
“Hey,” She said, her voice low, slightly seductive.
“Hey yourself.” Faith smirked.
They were completely alone in the hallway, all of Kathryn’s usual entourage was no where to be seen and Faith assumed that they were off doing other things or on their way back home.
Faith leaned against her locker, a backpack lay forgotten at her feet. Kathryn Merteuil smiled as the taller brunette crossed her arms and smirked. “Haven’t seen you around today.” She started as the smaller girl moved closer to her, and stopped only when they were a few inches apart.
“I happen to be a president of the student body, and there had been some pressing matter needed attending.” She looked up at Faith through her lashes, her green eyes glittered.
“All day?” Faith asked, playing along.
“Um hmmm...” Kathryn moved just a little closer, placing her small hand on Faith’s forearm.
“Sounds boring.” The taller girl commented.
“Well, someone has to do it.” The queen of Manchester Prep pouted, “and yes, it was very boring.”
Aren’t we laying it thick today, Faith thought to herself, her smirked just gotten bigger by the minute.
Monday schedule dictated that they would’ve had three classes together, and Queen Kathryn had missed all of them. She had thought that the smaller girl was absent from school today, but then she had caught a glimpse of her during lunch time and knew that it wasn’t the case, not that she cared whether or not she would be in class, they probably wouldn’t be talking anyhow.
Kathryn started to trace a circle on the taller girl’s arm as they talked, voice low, more intimate than they, perhaps, should be in the school’s empty hallway, but neither cared at the moment. Faith rested her weight more on the locker as she listened to the Queen talked about how boring her day had been while battering her clear green eyes up at the deep brown ones.
She had been doing some of the work that she usually have piled up as a student body president, that normally would’ve only taken her lunch hour and maybe her free period, but she didn’t feel like being stuck in the class today, and so she used it as an excuse. And it was a legitimate one for her to skip all her classes, and being praised for it. None of the teachers even question what it was that she needed to do, they simply agreed and excused her from class. It was just one of the perks.
Over the weekend she had been tempted to call Spencer’s house, but stopped herself, she certainly did not want to be too obvious in her interest. Instead, she spent it ignoring Sebastian and shopping, putting a bit of a dent in her allowance account, just to be away from the house. She could, of course, call up one of her usual boy toys and have herself a little playtime, but she didn’t feel like it, didn’t feel like having some meaningless encounter that may or may not leave her satisfied.
And the entire weekend her phone had been strangely quiet, and what calls she received were not from whom she wanted to hear from. It was the first for her. And strangely enough she was a little nervous; normally she was never one to feel nervous, not in things like this. She was always the one to go after what she wanted, and she expected it to be quite easy, since the other party seemed to be into this as well.
Today, she had expected Faith to seek her out, during lunch at least, but the taller girl didn’t and she was disappointed, even now she seemed complete unfazed by her charm. Though she was more than certain that Faith was interested, Kathryn was never wrong.
“Your ride’s not here yet?” Finally, after carried on a conversation till the noise outside gave to silent, Faith picking up her backpack and slugged it casually over her shoulder.
Kathryn shrugged elegantly, indicated that she did not care. “Probably waiting outside.” She replied, standing closer, still.
“I’m touched; you stayed to talk to me.” Faiths exclaimed with exaggerate astonishment, brown eyes widened.
A flash of something crossed the clear green orbs, and the flirtation was gone, Kathryn was stepping away with every intention to cross this encounter out as a waste of her time, she turned her nose, taking steps away from the taller girl, walking away. But Faith stopped her with a hand on her arm.
“Tell him to go home, come for a ride with me.”
It was a demand as much as a request.
Kathryn frowned at that, no one order her around, no one dared, and here was a new girl, interest or not, already made a demand, and she considered declining.
