Disclaimer:
I do not own Buffy, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
Interlude: Songs for One and All
Disclaimer: I own none of these songs, just borrowing them.
Notes: This is the song fic portion of the story. It’s not really important to the plot; just Sarah’s last performance and songs dedicated to each of her friends. If you just want to skip on to the next chapter for the end of the story, be my guest, you aren’t really missing anything except for some great music.
Buffy, Spike, Angel, and the Roswell gang were gathered at a table near the stage in the Bronze. Sarah had asked them each to be there. Cordy and the rest of Angel Investigations were off exploring Sunnydale. Connor and Serena were with Joyce and Dawn for the night, Giles went on a trip back to England with Olivia for a few days, and Xander and Anya had left for their honeymoon the day before.
The Believers took the stage together for the last time and Sarah tapped on the mic to get everyone’s attention.
“Hey everyone. As you’ve probably heard this will be our very last gig together.” Sarah said and several Boo’s and No’s were heard throughout the packed club. The band had created quite a following. “We’ll miss you all, thanks for listening. Now, back to business. This first song is dedicated to my friends who are with us from New Mexico.”
Sarah started up a fast punk beat on her guitar and gave her Roswell friends a devilish smile.
‘Everyday convince myself
Of everything I can and can't believe
Abused, confused
Everyday you feel every crime
Just stare up at the sky and wonder why
Afraid, deranged
Hold on to your promise you can use it for a crutch
Stand by while all your dreams get trampled in the dust
Leave now before your slick machines begin to rust
Last chance
Farewell
Among us
Everyday you get a little bit older
And everything gets hard you wonder why
Afraid, deranged
Everyday you feel every crime
An endless shocking show on the parade
Abused, confused
Hold on to your promise you can use it for a crutch
Stand by while all your dreams get trampled in the dust
Leave now before your slick machines begin to rust
Last chance
Farewell
Among us
Everyday convince myself
Of everything I can and can't believe
Afraid, deranged
Hold on to your promise you can use it for a crutch
Stand by while all your dreams get trampled in the dust
Leave now before your slick machines begin to rust
Last chance
Farewell
Among us
Among us
We're the Aliens
We're the Aliens
We're the Aliens
We're the Aliens’
After the last note trailed off Sarah spoke into the microphone again.
“This next one is for two of my favorite superheroes.” She said glancing pointedly at first Buffy then Angel.
She started a slower beat and her eyes went back and forth between the dark-haired vampire and the slayer as she sang.
‘You try to run just as fast as you can
But hurry their getting close
You run out of breath
From you fighting their hands
They're tearing at your clothes
You try to look for a place you can hide
But there's no room left in your mind
You see a friend and he’s standing in line
To help you get out in time
Waiting, watching over you
Just leave all your things
I’ll take you away from the things that you knew before
Beautiful boy, carry the weight of the world
Beautiful girl
We'll turn your nightmares back into dreams
First you've got to close your eyes,
Then you'll get another chance to redeem
But they'll recognize your disguise
We’ll have to go back to that moment in time
When you couldn't see the light
The night it took over your body and mind
Without an end in sight
Waiting, watching, over you
Just leave all your things
I’ll take you away from the things that you knew before
Beautiful boy, carry the weight of the world
Beautiful girl, nothing's the same as before
Beautiful boy
Oh, oh
Yeah, yeah
You’re tired of running so you turn to fight
It’s you up against yourself
Now you can see in your eyes there's a light
A love that you've never felt
Take you away from the things that you knew before
Beautiful boy, carry the weight of the world
Beautiful girl, nothing's the same as before
Beautiful boy’
She smiled warmly at the objects of the song as it ended then went into a few songs without dedications. After two she stopped and spoke again.
“This one is for another friend of mine. He took care of me when I needed it and I love him for that. Spike, I owe you a lot. Thanks.”
She started a rock beat, a lot harder than most of the bands songs. Bodies of teens thrashed and writhed with the music as she sang.
‘Touched
You say that I am too
So much
Of what you say is true
I'll never find someone
Quite like you again
I'll never find someone
Quite like you
Like you
The razors and the dying roses
Plead I don't leave you alone
The demi-gods and hungry ghosts
God, god knows I'm not alone
I'll never find someone
Quite like you again
I'll never
Find someone one quite like you
Again
I looked into your eyes and saw
A world that does not exist
I looked into your eyes and saw
A world that I wish I was in
I'll never find someone
Quite as touched as you
I'll never love someone
Quite the way that I love you’
The band went right into the next song and played the rest of their set then Crys, Darcy, and John left the stage to Sarah. She sat down at the piano on the side of the stage and pulled the mic forward.
“This last song is for starting over.” Her eyes met Angel’s as she began to sing.
Her fingers moved across the keys creating a slow blues melody. Sarah put everything she was feeling into her words.
*Pillar of strength
You’ve held my hand through my trials
And all of my tribulations
You’re quick with a joke and
You like to try my patience
But the truth is always told
The answers all unfold
When ever I let you
You move me
When you tell me those stories
I've heard one hundred times before
Each time I learn something more
You move me
When you know what I'm thinking
By looking in my eyes
Anxiety just disappears
You move me
You've been left behind before
They shut you out and locked the door
That is something I would never do
Because whenever I let you
You move me
When you tell me those stories
I've heard one hundred times before
Each time I learn something more
You move me
When you know what I'm thinking
By looking in my eyes
Anxiety just disappears
You move me to tears’
Sarah finished off the last notes then rose and went down to where her friends were waiting.
“I just wanted you all to know how much I love you, and how much I appreciate everything you’ve all done and taught me.”
“Oh, bloody hell, I knew you were going to get all sappy.” Spike said hugging the girl.
Sarah just smiled.
