Alex jumped, despite the fact that it was the third time in as many minutes that a cup full of blood had been knocked violently from her hand with a loud growl. “Will, please, you must eat.”
The trembling vampire curled back into the fetal position, a position he had rarely left since she brought him back to her apartment yesterday. Low muttering could be heard from where his chin was tucked into his chest. Alex leaned closer, trying her hardest to understand what Will was whispering so fervently over and over again. “Can’t…wrong…evil…bad.”
Alex reached her hand out, running her fingers gently through Will’s hair, the only thing she had discovered that could calm and comfort the distressed vampire. She had yet to determine what had brought Will to Los Angelnd ind in this condition, but something was seriously wrong. She didn’t know what she would do if she couldn’t get Will to drink the blood. Another whimper escaped Will’s lips and Alex returned her attention to the man curled up beside her. As far as she was concerned Spike and William the Bloody were both gone, leg beg behind the broken vampire she recognized as Will. And she was going to help him.
“Will, listen to me,” Alex gently took Will’s chin in her hand, startled at the childlike trust in his eyes. “You must drink.”
Will started shaking his head and Alex was once again reminded of a child. “Will, this blood was given freely, but the person had a disease that would harm others so it couldn’t be used. So the blood bank sold it to me. If you don’t eat it then it will just g was waste. Please drink Will, please, for me.”
Will nodded his head in agreement and Alex had to stifle a loud shriek of triumph. She had been trying to get Will to eat for a while. At first she had just handed a cup to him and he had knocked it from her hands violently. The same had occurred when she asked him to eat, and again when she ordered him to drink. But finally, he was going to eat. Alex quickly went into the kitchen to heat up another mug of blood before Will could change his mind.

Gunn hadn’t wanted to come with him to Harem, even after Angel had explained who Will could be. Despite all of Gunn’s experience with vampires and other demons he still had no knowledge of the Sire and Childer relationship. If Will asked for Angel’s help then he had to help him. It appeared that Gunn would have preferred to sit around and wait for Fred to return. Angel knew that wouldn’t be a good idea so he had bribed the young man with the promise of violence. And if the note was referring to the Will he thought then there would be plenty of aggression for Gunn to work out.
When they entered the club Angel was surprised. He had expected something tacky, not this elegant place. It reminded him of a place his sire had taken him when he was young, they had feasted for days on the entourage. Shaking the memories from his head Angel crossed roomroom to the bar. Motioning to the bartender, he got the man’s attention. “I’m looking for Alexandra.”
bar bartender waved a hand disinterestedly toward the stage. “Alex will be up in a minute. Can I get you anything to drink?”
Angel shook his head but Gunn asked for a Jack Daniels. As soon as the words ‘leave the bottle’ had escaped Gunn’s lips Angel knew he he was in for some brooding com ton tonight. From his standpoint it seemed that Fred and Gunn would be splitting up soon which meant that Fred would be moving out. Angel hated to see it happen, he would miss her. The room fell dark and Angel focused his attention back on the stage.
The room was dark, but Angel could see the woman as she made her way onto the stage. The soft clinking of the bangles she wore were loud in the silence of the club. He could only stare as she stepped onto the stage. She made that much of a vision and when you had been around as long as he had, that was saying something. He had never been in the club before, places like this had never appealed much to him but due to the call he received he had found himself inside Harem and apparently she was who he was looking for. The room was silent as soft music began to play, classical music that Angel didn’t think would be appropriate in a place like this.
A soft blue spotlight shone upon the single figure gracing the stage. Tiny sapphire beads woven together covered the curly dark hair. In the middle, between her brown eyes, was blue paint of some kind with a square crystal resting at an angle dead center, above it were three smaller silver streaks spotted with small blue gems. Following along the curve of each eyebrow were designs in blue paint interspersed with small circular diamonds that shined brightly as they curved above the eyebrows to wrap around and meet the two glittering jewels sat at the outer corner of each eye. A veil that ended just at her neck obscured her lower face.
Smooth, faintly tanned shoulders remained uncovered by the snug top that started just off the shoulder and ended inches above the Celtic design in silver paint dusted in blue jewels that circled her bellybutton. The ankle length skirt was made from the same material as the veil, the bountiful layers producing a dark blue hue. A wrap lined with silver coins jingled as her hips swayed, mingling with the clinking of the bangles she wore on her wrists and ankles.
Angel watched, mesmerized as she began her dance, the slow demure movements adding to the innocent appearance of the performer. Every once in a while her eyes would look up to sweep the room before darting back to the floor in front of her. Every man in the club was transfixed, catching small glimpses of skin as her top was drawn up with her movements. How long she was up there, Angel wasn’t sure but he was surprised when the music ended, the crowd whistling their appreciation of the dancer.
Angel followed her progress as she exited into the backstage area. Angel turned to Gunn, “Stay here.”
With a quick glance at the bouncers he crossed the room and into the back before anyone could notice. The woman entered a room and Angel followed. Upon opening the door the woman cried out in surprise and Angel tried to reassure her. “I’m not here to hurt you.”
“Angel?” Angel stared at the petite woman before him. He didn’t recognize her, though there was something strangely familiar about her scent.
“Who are you?” Angel grasped the veil and tugged. As the face was revealed Angel found himself at a loss. He had never seen her before, of that he was at least sure.
